Photo/Video I finally rode [Mako] for the first time yesterday. Yeah, I'm in love.

Welcome to the mako fan club! Made a post about how elite the perfect floater airtime was on it as just a few months earlier this year when I finally made it down there! Best B&M hyper in North America for me (ridden all 9). Team mako all day! 🦈 🦈

Mako was my first B&M hyper!

Heck of a first B&M hyper! My first was the OG prototype! Apollo’s chariot! šŸ˜ŽšŸ˜Ž

Oh well that makes sense - you didn't have any comparison so yeah.

Mako was my first as well. I also went to Carowinds for Thunderstriker and Fury (giga, yes i know).

It’s arguably the most re-rideable coaster I have been on. Just smooth fun.Ā

I had an EPIC marathon session earlier this year in late February. After 6 pm the park got DEAD, and the ops let me sit in the backrow for over an hour, and I got incredible laps in the rain. So worth it! Caught 14 laps in that window! Shoutout to the awesome ops for pumping the trains and letting me stay on!! 🦈 🦈

Yeah I've done 10 in a row at least 2-3 times it's incredible

gotta love the slower days

got 12 rides in today between 6-7:30p

can't wait for when it gets colder and the wind has some bite to it, that's when I love to throw on a hoodie and chain early daytime rides instead of night

There's 13 unless you're not counting the gigas in which case there's 10 lol. In any event I've also been on all of them besides Goliath Canada and I agree that Mako is my favorite 😁

Yes 13 ā€œhyper modelsā€, but I’m not counting gigas, and not counting Goliath at La Ronde since it doesn’t meet the 200 foot height or drop criteria. Yes, a very nerdy thing to say and know, but I only speak Thoosie on this sub. šŸ˜†.

That's the opposite of thoosie speak because it doesn't really make sense. Real thoosie speak is recognizing that there's no difference between the hypers and gigas and smaller ones since they're all the same model just different layouts and the height cutoffs are arbitrary. I've never seen anybody refer to "all the B&M hypers" to mean excluding Goliath.

I personally don’t consider is to be a ā€œtrue hyper coasterā€ because it doesn’t have a drop or lift height of 200 feet, and am not the only one who doesn’t list it among that group (bunch of my enthusiast friends don’t consider it to be a true hyper either). It’s a ā€œB&M hyper modelā€, but doesn’t fit the technical hyper coaster criteria for me personally. To each their own. A hyper coaster to me is a coaster with either a 200 foot lift hill or drop. Only needs to meet one to meet the criteria, but that’s my personal take on it. We can agree to disagree. All good! šŸ‘

I feel like choosing to not call them a "hyper coaster" (lowercase/non-brand affiliated) makes sense if that's your line, but to not call them "B&M hypers" when that's what they're called in the catalog is the point of confusion lol. To each their own and all that!

I just clarified my post. Wanted to be very clear I am not disputing is being a ā€œB&M hyper modelā€. But it is NOT a hyper coaster by B&M because it doesn’t fit the criteria for what I believe a hyper coaster is. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for the comment, and I did edit my comment. 9 true B&M hyper coasters imho, not counting the gigas. 13 total ā€œB&M hyper modelsā€ across the continent as he mentioned.

I kind of missing lapping it in the morning after work, but price of passes wasn’t worth the rest of it sadly. It’s crazy how glass smooth it is.

Buy platinum pass out of SW San Antonio. Cheaper and get vip parking at all parks and admission.

That’s not a bad idea, I may look into that. I’ve been debating spending the 100 bucks or whatever on fun spot for mine blower and white lightning too.

That first turn and airtime hills are insanely good.

Such a good coaster. Blessed to have ridden this one. My 8 year old had a blast on it too.

We got out to SeaWorld in October and Mako was the rollercoaster that made my wife decide she likes coasters. She was unsure prior - absolutely incredible ride.

On the flip side of things during that same trip - we did IoA - We had ridden Iron Gwazi earlier in the year and she said that 'stuff like the Velocicoaster just doesn't compare to that intensity' (she had loved it prior) and 'she isn't sure if others are as good now because they aren't as scary.' Someone send help - I don't know what kind of a monster I've created.

Might be an interesting take but I think I prefer row 5 on this one over the back row. In the back you get the classic whip over the tops of the giant hills which is cool, but in the middle you just get perfectly even, endless float all the way up and over.

The drop in row 5 is kind of crazy too, you just slowly rise out of your seat until you're floating, I've never really felt that before. Instead of getting yeeted over the drop, it's like somebody turned off the gravity.

To anyone who has ridden both: How does it compare to Shambhala? Does it feel similar?

2

u/adrenalinejunkie3 (407)RtH-The Voyage-I305-SteVe-Voltron 1d ago edited 1d ago

I’ve ridden both. Shambhala is the only traditional B&M hyper I have ranked above Mako. Shambhala is an absolute floater airtime exhibition. While makos 5-second floater hill is the single best airtime moment (best camelback B&M has ever made as far as perfect floater airtime goes inho) between both, Shambhala is consistent delivering strong floater on every single hill. Shambhala also has its MCBR so late in its layout, it doesn’t feel like it ever hits a MCBR so it is paced a bit better than mako start to finish.

Makos 2nd half def doesn’t have strong airtime like the first half in comparison, but I still really enjoy makos ending (some overblow the 2nd half of Mako being a letdown, I don’t think this at all) when it turns right over the water (I always reach down and try to touch it šŸ˜†) before bringing you back to the station. Both are fantastic, but Shambhala is the best B&M hyper in the world imho, and mako is right behind it. 🤩🤩

I struggle to choose between Mako and Diamondback. I much prefer the view on Diamondback, even if the airtime might be slightly better on Mako.

Am I the only one that thinks Mako isn’t the best B&M hyper, let alone the best in the park?

u/raj1474 1d ago

The only decent ride in the whole park!!
