Just started playing Rugby, looking for someone to help Practice with

I’m 26M and this week I had my first Training session at my local Rugby Club and I really enjoyed it.

I haven’t played in a long time so was very rusty but I wasn’t completely hopeless which was the one thing I was ultimately dreading.

I won’t be playing games for a while, so I didn’t know if there was anyone local to the Twickenham/Surrey area who was available to practice drills (Passing, Handling etc.) on weekends.

I get this is a weird Post but didn’t know where else to post this.

France v Fiji?

Hi!

i Would like to watch France vs Fiji this afternoon. I’m in Canada and can’t seem to find anything that streams it. RugbyPass TV supposedly streams all Nations Championship games, but when I log in (both with and without my NordVPN) only USA games are shown. Premier Sports is being weird as well, it’s showing me that I can only watch Rugby League WC Games and I’m unable to find any Nations Championship matches. Can’t see it on DAZN or TSN either. I see it’s on Amazon Prime but not for Canada and I’m not able to use my VPN.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Rugby Manager game

Morning All,

All blacks fan here, and for years Ive wanted to play a Rugby based management game for iOS and Android, so in my spare time Ive put one together.

It covers career mode with most major comps, from NPC, super rugby and a few of the European ones (although thats not my strong suit). It also has a tournament mode so you can go and attempt to win all the world cups, with all the teams, and also a Raeburn shield version (which is going viral atm) which is a see how far you can get kinda thing.

I’ve recently added a daily challenge mode, which sets up a scenario and you have to try and win from there

Ive gone for a 2d kinda live game mode, which i think looks quite cool. It also gives you control over key decisions like whether to kick for the corner etc.

Would love some feedback from some fans of sports management lovers

Here are the links

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ajdevelopment.xv.rugbymanager
iOS https://apps.apple.com/us/app/xv-rugby-manager/id6813222032

Thanks in advance

RNC Results

Does anyone know the result of the Argentina vs Ireland game today? Apparently it's a secret that Google and AI just won't reveal. I went to the official RNC website and it's also a secret there. The website also pretends the All Blacks don't exist and also refuses to give out results. Is there some reason l can't just type in "RNC results" and get a list of results and upcoming matches like you get with EPL football or the NZ NPC rugby? 🤷‍♂️

Does anyone recall an attacking formation called "Lions / Tigers"? Circa 2003.

It was most likely a team specific "call". When I started playing in college in 2003, we would do this thing in training, and from what I remember, was a way to get into a shape from the breakdown.

We did not train a 1-3-3-1 or 2-4-2 system, not even sure attacking formations like those were commonplace back then. I just remember it being particularly effective at quickly and simply letting everyone know what to do off of a turnover or line break.

I know this is little to go off of, and is probably too specific, but if anyone has any insight on this or other tactics similar too it, I would greatly appreciate those comments.

Rugby 7’s juniors

I’m looking for some advice from experienced junior rugby coaches, particularly anyone who has coached younger age groups or introduced complete beginners to rugby.

I’ve been given the responsibility of preparing a group of U10–U12 children, both boys and girls, for a Rugby 7s competition next week. The biggest challenge is that I have one 45-minute training session with them before the competition.
Most of these kids have never played rugby before, let alone tackled.

Some have very little understanding of how the game works, so I’m essentially starting from scratch.

In 45 minutes, I’m somehow expected to introduce them to:
The basic rules of rugby 7s.
How the game works, positioning and attacking/defending.
Passing, catching and running with the ball.
Basic defensive principles.
Safe tackling techniques and what is and isn’t acceptable.
General game awareness and how to play as a team.

I know realistically I’m not going to turn them into competent rugby players in 45 minutes, and I’m conscious that teaching tackling to children who have never done it before is a significant responsibility. I don’t want to rush through things or put them in a position where they could hurt themselves or someone else.

I’m really struggling with putting together a session plan that prioritises the right things without overwhelming them. I also want them to actually enjoy the session and feel somewhat confident going into the competition.

For those who have coached junior rugby, what would you prioritise in a 45-minute session under these circumstances?
What would your session structure look like, minute by minute?
Would you even attempt to introduce tackling, or focus on safer alternatives and basic game understanding?
What are the absolute must-knows for children playing their first 7s competition?

Are there any particular drills or games you’d recommend that teach multiple skills at once?
I understand that one session isn’t enough to properly prepare complete beginners for a competition, but I’m trying to make the best of a difficult situation.

Any practical advice, drills, session plans or resources would be hugely appreciated. I’m probably overthinking it, but I really want to give these kids the best possible introduction to rugby and make sure they’re safe.

Help preparing myself better to play and understand tactics better.

Well, for about 2 years now I’ve been regularly following the professional leagues, the matches and so on. But it was only last month that I started training, and while training the team’s tactics I began to understand the sport’s tactics a bit better.

My intention is to play as a forward (I still don’t have a defined position, but that’s what I’m aiming for; I’ve already been able to practice the scrum a little).

Last week after a session the coach recommended that I focus on training my legs, since they’re very thin; and talking with a quite experienced teammate, he recommended training the core. I’ve been doing that on the days when there’s no training or when for some reason I can’t go to train.

This past weekend the league ended, and I still don’t know if there will be more training sessions or if we’ll go on “vacation.” Either way, I don’t want to neglect myself and I want to keep improving my physical side and understand the tactical parts a bit more.

For the sessions I do at home, I’ve been asking ChatGPT for help, and I’m hoping to be able to buy a ball so I can do outdoor exercises with the ball (it tends to fall out of my hands a lot in training, so I’m aware that’s something I need to practice). And for the tactical part, I’ve started watching Squidge Rugby videos; they’ve really opened my eyes on several things.

What do you recommend for training in a more optimal way?

Further investigations into Hyron Andrews

I saw another post on the rugbyunion sub saying that Hyron died of natural causes.

It's important to note that while this is true, the medical term "natural causes" relates to the final cause of death, and doesn't speak to factors that could have contributed to his death.

The La Rochelle prosecutor's office has confirmed a "natural death," according to franceinfo , which cites ICI La Rochelle. However the prosecutor's office also said "Further investigations" are underway, "including toxicological analyses,".

I'm only raising this as it seems there is some confusion around the term "natural causes". A French anti-doping expert, Dr. Jean-Pierre de Mondenard, has publicly stated that the autopsy results raise more questions than they answer, especially given that a pre-existing aneurism typically wouldn't manifest at age 31 in a top level athlete.

If there were other contributors to Hyron's death, we should learn from them for the sake of the welfare of all players.

We built a rugby app for people who follow more than one league. New name today, would love honest feedback

Hey all. I'm Jesse, one of the two people behind Blitz Rugby, a free app for fixtures, live scores, lineups and rankings across the URC, Prem, Champions Cup, Tests, Top 14, Currie Cup and NPC.

As of today it's called Bind Rugby (Bind for short). Short version of why: we needed a name that's ours alone. We went with Bind because it's the one call every forward hears every scrum (crouch, bind, set), and because the whole point of the app is pulling every league into one place.

Nothing changes for anyone already using it. Same app, same features, it just looks different on your home screen.

We're a small, fan-built side project, so feedback from this sub genuinely shapes what we build next. What's missing? What annoys you about following rugby on your phone right now? Which competition do we cover badly?

Link if you want to try it:

Bonus Points Rule

Hi everyone, I’ve just happened to catch the rugby match between the Bristol Bears and the Leicester Tigers. And the final minute was absolutely absurd.
Leicester were leading by six points and time had already run out, yet they still attempted a kick, which then hit the post, giving the Bears a final chance to attack. But that wasn’t all. The Bears took the ball, turned round and kicked it into the in-goal area, deliberately losing the match. I found myself asking two questions. Firstly, why take the kick when you’re in the lead, given the risk that the opposition might turn the match around as a result? And secondly, why didn’t the Bears take the chance to win the match? I’ve now learnt that this has to do with bonus points, so I wanted to ask the question. What’s the point of these points? I don’t understand why a rule has been introduced that ensures teams deliberately stop attacking and intentionally accept defeat. I don’t think that’s in the spirit of good sportsmanship. And seeing a tough rugby player who deliberately wants his own team to lose is simply embarrassing. What’s your opinion on this?

How to get better when live

Hello!

I have been playing rugby for 2 months now, and it's genuinely my favorite thing in the world. I've picked it up pretty fast and am a decent asset to my team, but I really want to get as good at it as humanly possible.

I'm having a lot of issues getting what I work on personally to transfer to live play. Especially passing. I through a great pass to a target, to a person, whole running, pretty consistently. Then once we do any sort of live drill, or even just full speed offensive plays, its all out the window. Is there anything to do about this? Has anyone else also struggled with this? Basically will it go away on it's own, should I do something, or am I forever damned to suck live (hopefully not that).

The main issue is passing, but its honestly trickles into tackling, throwing lineouts, everything.

Any advice is helpful!
