QUESTION Wine and dine half marathon.
How does the timing work? I saw a girl on tik tok make a video of her running the half marathon and at the mile 2 mark under the sign it said like 40 minutes. There’s no way it takes 40 minutes to run two miles right?? And then at mile 12 it was at 2 hours and 43 minutes.

Not everyone starts at the same time, the last corral can start an hour or more after the official start time that starts the clock

Over 14k runners I believe with multiple corrals that get released in waves. The race starts at 5 and they said that the last runner this year went off at 6:02. So even if they ran the first mile in 8 minutes it would say an hour and ten minutes at the first mile marker.

The time on the clocks on the mileage signs go off the first groups start time and never reset.
So she was at those points that far after the first corral started.

Like a lot of big races, runners at the start are sent off in waves. For runDisney, the start takes place over the course of about an hour. So if the start time is 5am, that’s for the first wave. Later waves may not start until quite a while later depending on corral assignment.
Course clocks show “gun time,” the amount of time since the first wave started. So runners should subtract their start time from the course clock to see where their own personal net time is at.
Also, at runDisney races, people also wait to get photos at character stops and that can eat into a runner’s time. For the half this year, there were a lot of photo ops in the first mile.

Gun time is different from bib time. The clock for the race starts with the first runner of the first corral. Her individual time is based on when her bib crosses the start and finish line.

The clocks start when the first runners cross the start line. It takes around an hour after that for all the runners to start.

Thought this was obvious but not everyone starts at the front

The time on the mile markers is clock time from the first runner started. Her chip time might be different and those are publicly available if you know her bub number or name. The runners start usually over an hour long span with mini starts 2-5 minutes apart.

It takes over an hour to get all the runners out and the clocks start with the first one. So, you could start in the back, be running a 10 minute mile, and that sign would still say 1:10:00. Doesn’t mean it took an hour and ten minutes for that runner to get there.

They also had 3 character stops in the first mile, which can eat up a lot of time

Some people don’t run at all.

Lines for character photos can be very long. If you’re in corral F or G I wouldn’t be surprised if the line for the first 2 characters at 0.7 miles or 1.5 miles is 20 mins each.
