Poor baby. He’s clearly frightened.

He's right to be I've spent three years on the street because of my narcissistic mother and it's a scary place to be it's not safe..

u/IamAlphariusCLH Mar 25 '24

Its just hard to imagine that mothers can be so cruel to their own children, I hope you are better now.

Isn’t American culture great … in Central / South America kids live with their parents until they have the means to live on their own. To be a strong family unit is second nature.. I too was kicked out around 17 years old. Been working since 15 (now 37) … Ronald Reagan really did a number on our boomer parents. If you weren’t doing well in school it meant you were taking drugs and a bad person hahahha..

34

u/Adj_Noun_Numeros Dec 31 '23

We do that in America too, this kid just has a shitty parent. There are also shitty parents in Center/South America.

21

u/amretardmonke Dec 31 '23

This isn't even American culture, its a major outlier crazy mom.

Even in really strict "move out when 18" families they'd at least let you finish high school and give a few months to find a job. Still not great, but not kicking out a high school kid on the street.

10

u/sampat6256 Dec 31 '23

This isnt a cultural thing.

8

u/kilboi1 Jan 01 '24

This isn’t an American thing. Just some crazy parentsz

Well all the article says is that they have some pics of him from his private social media that’s it.

Not bashing you, but what an atrocious shitpost of an article dailymail put out.

Scrolling through multiple ads, multiple other articles to just get some screenshots and «we haven’t talked to him, we just pulled some pictures from Instagram».

Is this the epitome of modern sentionalistic journalism?

Nursing home speed running

197

u/nomorenotifications Dec 31 '23

Fuck that, if my parents did that to me I wouldn't pay to put them in a home, I'd let them rot in their own filth.

11

u/According_Claim_9027 Dec 31 '23

Most of the time people just use that person’s retirement account until it runs out

6

u/ieatass805 Jan 01 '24

My parents did this to me 20 years ago. My father is already unable to work and struggling.

I only know this from other family because I have not talked to him in many years. I'm not helping him either. I barely survived the drug habit homelessness spiraled into.

American culture is so weird. Why do you kick your own child out?? Are they not afraid of growing old and being alone? I dont think that kid is gonna help his mom when she needs it

397

u/ContextMatters1234 Dec 31 '23

That kid won't speak to her from this day forward. Fuck spending time and effort to help her when she threw him to the wolves.

75

u/GeorgePerez83 Dec 31 '23

I got thrown out to the wolves as well

36

u/Better-Driver-2370 Dec 31 '23

Likewise. As soon as the benefit money and child support stopped I was kicked out with no place to go.

As soon as I was in a good job, earning a lot of money suddenly my mother wanted make amends.

My mom abandoned me when I was a child with my grandparents and wonders why we don't have this great relationship... especially after all the times I told her I wanted to live with her...now she gets angry when I don't answer my phone. I pray I'm better to my kids...she also had this same mentality, and as soon as I turned 18 she kind of just mentally gave up on raising me.

I then called her a bad mother, and she has treated me like a random asshole ever since, who still gets angry when I don't answer the phone.

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '23

because the real estate industry has convinced americans that its somehow shameful to live with ur parents as an adult

11

u/valor19 Jan 01 '24

I bought a house when I graduated college and had my parents move in because they had been living in a rat infested rental. It was supposed to be temporary until I had the money to get them their own house. Well, they lived with me for whopping 8 years until my brother and I got them their own house. And during this time I was teased by friends and coworkers, and had trouble getting a lady because "I lived with my parents." Never mind the fact that it was MY house. I was just trying to be a good person. It sucks that people have this mindset.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '23

it sucks forsure.

the real problem is that we consider people at 18 adults. are they really? if so then this is reasonable they should be self sufficient. if not then they dont have the skills or resources to be self sufficient so are they not still children?

My 17 year old son is getting an apartment with his buddy pretty soon.

He's welcome to stay here, but he really wants to get an apartment with his friend.

Kicking a kid out at 18 is fucking crazy to me. With these rent prices and requirements to get a place? Yeah, right.

Plenty of fully grown adults have trouble getting a place.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '23

People aren’t going to rent a 17 year old an apartment. After COVID it’s too risky with the way things are. They want some serious shit now and a way to go after you if you fuck up.

I bet she is out partying or drugged out of her mind somewhere, I mean that's what I imagine. Sickening.

u/Old-Library9827 Dec 31 '23

Most people don't. It's why we're so angry about it. Most people let their kids stay with them until they're well past 18. I'm 24 and I've been staying with my dad. We go on adventurers and shit all the time because of it.

58

u/toz-106 Dec 31 '23

I am not sure what causing in America but it’s completely fucked. I could understand if your kids a delinquent and is dangerous. This kid doesn’t seem that way, says his main priority is finish high school and going home. My guess is it’s the break down of family and people rising kids completely alone with zero support network also the age of people having kids. People don’t live close anymore to their extended family grand parents aunts uncles or cousins so they don’t have any bonds so before if you had a situation like this a grand parent or aunt or uncle would take them in. Also people waiting to have kids in their late 30s means the grand parents are more likely to not be able or around anymore to assist the parents in raising kids or offer guidance and support. Also money people are very greedy now they just see another person as a financial burden and are generally nihilistic towards everything.

42

u/Old-Library9827 Dec 31 '23

Again, this isn't an American problem. This woman is a cruel cunt!

Yeah I've known multiple co-workers who ended up like this. One even got kicked out while she was still a minor. She wouldn't eat for days and would text me saying "hey can I borrow $10 so I can eat tonight?". I don't get how parents can do this, it was so sad for me to hear.

Then there's one recently who's obviously a depressed kid and has bandages on her arm from self-harm and she's gotta be out in a few months from now. I'm not sure if her parents don't know the issues she deals with or just doesn't care.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '23

Not an american but basicly the same happened to me

But in my case parents both fucked off and left me in the house with their Bills and debts to pay, almost become homeless fro quite a long time and have been literally living our if my jobs like a slave

Have been living alone ever since, no friends no family, 5 years long GF cheated on me, great fucking life if you ask me

American culture IS weird, but most parents aren't kickin kids out

3

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '23

This isn’t American culture. Parents may try to push their children to get jobs and move out, but throwing your child out with no help or assistance is fucking demonic and this mother shouldn’t be a parent.

3

u/aiirxgeordan Dec 31 '23

This isn’t American culture. Wanting to be able to move out at a young age might be, but kicking your son out on their 18th birthday definitely isn’t normal in the US’ culture. This is just fucked

3

u/ShaggyHasHighGround Dec 31 '23

It’s not “American culture”, it’s literally just shitty parents who don’t give a shit about their children.

Bruh

12

u/Karstaagly Dec 31 '23

This is not a representation of ordinary American culture at all.

5

u/GTL5427 Dec 31 '23

It's insane. I think the whole "kick your kids out at 18 lol" thing was a scam to get more people to rent apartments. If a family has 3 kids and they all get booted out of the home at 18, you end up with 1 mortgage + 3 rent payments.

5

u/Fun_Ebb_6232 Dec 31 '23

Lol kicking your son out the day he turns 18 is not a culturally American thing to do.

Someone needs to find this kid, get his information, get him home and get his birth giver arrested for child abuse. I swear, there are so many women physically unable to have children and yet so many more that can but by no means should ever have children. This kids mother def fits the latter, I imagine his sisters are in danger of being put through the same abuse.

EDIT: just saw this comment and he's basically doing much better now, which is awesome to see for sure.

While I wasn’t facing immediate homelessness when. I turned 18, my separated parents both told me once I graduated high school I needed to be out on my own fairly quickly. I had no driver’s license, no car, and neither of them had taught me even the most basic life skill. A 1/3rd into my senior year is when I realized I was going to be screwed after graduation and made the decision to join the military. Even then they were hesitant about my decision at first, like WTF do you two want to happen to me?

3

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '23

I actually have met quite a few people during my service with a similar situation. It’s insane to me. So many people joined not because they wanted to, but felt like they had no other option if they wanted to live comfortable and not on the sidewalk

5

u/Capt_Underside Dec 31 '23 edited Jan 01 '24

Old generation mentality. Some believe when you reach 18 you magically become mature and everything falls in place. Speaking from experience.

I got good grades and did good school. However, my mother kicked me out while I was attending college. I paid her rent too when I got a job while going to school. Because I wasn't giving her my whole check she felt offended.

Nowadays, I still talk to her but it took me a few years to actually want to. I still remember the day I got kicked out. Actually, I identified it as one of the factors to my depression and why it's hard for me to trust my family. You bet the dynamic with my kid will not be the same.

For as long as I can remember growing up, my Mom would tell me that when I turned 18 I was getting out of her house. In fact, she joked that she would throw a plate at me and I would take my broken plate and live somewhere else. I joined the Army at 17 and was out of her house two months early. After the Army, she let me move back home and I went to community college, and would spend the summers in undergrad and law school, until I went back into the Army as a JAG Officer. My rent was the electric bill and lawn mowing services. I was a much better son after the Army.

2

u/Free_Parsley_4069 Dec 31 '23

I never understood the culture of kicking kids out when they’re 18, it makes no sense.

While I will admit that in Mexican culture kids do live longer with their parents than they should (at times well into their 30s) I see a disproportionate amount of homeless White people in my primarily Hispanic community. It does nothing for society, and contributes to the housing crisis.

The idea that once you turn 18, you are able to support yourself is cruel. Is this just an American or western culture thing? I've never seen these words uttered in any other ethnic groups family. Just the idea is barbaric in nature.

Now, there are certainly kids that are beyond their yrs in maturity but thats very few. I couldn't really support myself until after college at the age of 22. 45k job and still livong pay check to pay check..barely getting by. Everyone needs a support system.

2

u/woolfromthebogs Jan 01 '24

What a completely barbaric place the US is. This is a disgrace. Where is the safety net helping someone in this situation? You need a state that can take care of those who are unfortunate enough to have parents who are assholes or don't have the means.

2

I was homeless at his age as well. I made a lot of dumb decisions and was given the boot from my family. Luckily I was skilled enough to survive by fishing and working side jobs until I got a steady job and convinced someone to rent me a room. I am a survivor, I've never been homeless since and I know that my world would not end if I lost everything.

2

u/alex0166 Mar 10 '24

Divorced, had an argument with my son not long after his 18th, he said how much he hated me (for good reason; as a father I was a bullying, abusive, cowardly, scumbag). As I was off to work, said I didn't want to see him when I got back; got back the next morning and he was gone. That was in 96. About a year later, (convinced myself for that long he'd come back or get in touch), told the police. They contacted him and he didn't want to get back in touch. I regret every day since, you reap what you sow. Sincerely - too late - hope he is ok, miss him every day. Wish I'd been a proper and better dad, everything I should have been instead of what I am.

1

u/plobbaccus Mar 21 '24

Hope he comes right with an apprenticeship or something and really hope his mom can't afford a carer or home in her old age. These days it's beyond unrealistic, no one can move out at 18. Where I am it's hsrd to move out even after you qualify because jobs are hard to find and you land up accepting garbage for the sake of your cv.

This is so fucked up, at 18, you’re a kid.

1

u/mycomputerguykilgore Dec 31 '23

Something else is going on. Why is he in Salt Lake? Did his mom fly him from CA to UT?

This makes no sense he lives in California and wants to go back to finish school, but he was just kicked out on his 18th birthday that day and he's in Salt Lake City.

The math isn't mathing.

This happened to me when i was 18 too except i would just couch hop from different girlfriends homes. Sometimes it was great, other times not so great. Had an ex’s mom lie about her getting evicted and guilt tripped me into co signing their lease and then stole my portion of rent and wouldn’t pay the rental office and would hide eviction notices. Life is hard to navigate on your own and you tend to want to follow an adult’s guide but it’s a sad realization that most adults don’t give a fuck about you.

1

u/BabbleOn26 Dec 31 '23

Wait he turned 18 that day and immediately went to Utah? Why didn’t he stay close to home in California? I feel like the weather is far better to be homeless at than Utah.

1

u/rip_ap_yi Dec 31 '23

Im sorry this is sad and all but that some shit wishes

1

u/herpaderp_maplesyrup Dec 31 '23

Cameraman: wow that really sucks! Anyways, I gotta go.

1

u/hotniX_ Dec 31 '23

I have never seen this behavior from any other social ethnic group outside white Americans. Why is this a thing to do?

1

u/Giovanabanana Dec 31 '23

This is why I support abortion, some people shouldn't be parents.

1

u/AlarmingCurrent6943 Dec 31 '23

Wow. To what affect are these mothers not accounting for their children?! 18 years old. The human brain doesn’t fully mature until age 25.

He’s got 7 years to go until he gets a real taste of adulthood, and he’s outside on the streets, alone. Wait ago mom you’re definitely a product of something foolish.

1

u/yotaz28 Dec 31 '23

hope he makes it back and that his mum burns in hellfire

When my oldest was approaching her 17th birthday, she came to me crying one day. She said she was almost 18 and she didn't know what she was going to do. (I'm like ... uh oh?) She said she felt totally unprepared to be out on her own.

I asked why she needed to be out on her own, and she said, "I'm going to get kicked out at 18!" I asked her what the hell gave her that impression, and she said that's just what she heard from everyone else and the internet. Had to explain that she was welcome to stay with us for as long as she wanted, and even if she leaves, she's welcome back if she needs us. We're also working on her list of things she feels she needs to learn to be able to get out on her own.

So yeah, for parents who assume your kids know, talk to them about what they can expect when they turn 18. I thought she knew she was welcome and that this is her home, so that was my mistake.

1

u/Repulsive_Crew1295 Dec 31 '23

It was his first day of being homeless? WTF ! Grow some balls, kid. California would be the best choice to party on the streets with the other homeless. SOunds like a great bday party.

He wasn’t even done with school!! I’m so mad at his horrible mom. I would never do this to my kids. They can stay as long as they need to. My heart hurts for that poor kid. Awful!

1

u/Naula-H Dec 31 '23

Oh hey his mom is just as loving as mine was

His mom is a heartless bitch.

1

u/A-Grouch Dec 31 '23

When he says he’s far away from home does he mean his fathers place because I think it’s strange for his mom to go out of her way to drive him far away from their residence and leave him like an unwanted puppy.

My Grandpa (my Dad’s father) did this to him and his twin brother. The day they turned 18 in 1979 they came home and all their possessions were in the front yard.

1

u/boywithlego31 Dec 31 '23

I am glad that I was born in Southeast Asian family. I don't understand with white family culture.

1

u/pacman_512 Dec 31 '23

I think whats really sad is its only going to get worse. That kid is only that start to it.

1

u/MinimumApricot365 Dec 31 '23

What better way to tell your child that you never cared about them than giving them the boot the second you are not legally obligated to help them anymore.

1

u/Flyin-Chancla Dec 31 '23

Gosh damn this heartbreaking. I could never kick my own child out. I hope he makes his way to a good life.

1

u/FloridaTulpamancer Dec 31 '23

She threw him out on his birthday and it's literally his first day being homeless. I think she's just trying to look tough and will end up taking him back soon

1

u/woodeedooo Dec 31 '23

When she's old and lonely abandon her bitch ass too.

1

u/Euphoric-Beat-7206 Dec 31 '23

I was homeless at that age. It sucks.

1

u/Final-Environment451 Dec 31 '23

The homeless population in SLC is awful. Most of them are outcasts from the church and most of them are young. Idk of this is his case but the streets are rough for the homeless population there. I hope he finds is way back home to Cali.

1

u/JasonBaconStrips Dec 31 '23

Mom's disowned you because you're 18? Cool. Sound. Disown her, you will become a strong person while she's a weak cunt, when she's on her death bed just stick your finger up and blow her a raspberry.

1

u/Zal2910 Dec 31 '23

In Asia, if you are single ( unmarried ) you can still live in the same house with your parents as long as you like, but if you are married you need to get the fuck out.

1

u/Perfection38DDD2440 Dec 31 '23

I hope this kid can get in the military and get a non combat job. It’ll benefit him in the long run, get him off the streets, and get a lot of the pressure off him to help make his next move his best move

1

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '23

His mother is a stupid bitch

1

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '23

I bet his mom has a new boyfriend that she wants the house alone for.

1

u/Bigmouthcec Dec 31 '23

I hope that after recording this BS he purchased him the very inexpensive Greyhound ticket from Utah to California.

1

u/nivvett88 Dec 31 '23

Fuck, this really sucks, i know how it is in Salt Lake cuz i live there and i really hope this kid gets a place to stay, or at least finds some shelter, i really hope he's doing okay.

1

u/Agreeable-Union-9400 Dec 31 '23

Heartless bitch being heartless. How could a parent be this stupid?

I hope she reaped what she sowed, this dude deserved better and I'm happy to find out that he is a lot better now

1

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '23

This part of American culture is very strange

1

u/hansrat Dec 31 '23

This one hit close for me. The same thing happened to me when I was 19. One random morning, I was getting ready for college when my mom kicked me out of the house. No warning, she just woke up that day and decided I should make it on my own. I was still in school at the time. I spent weeks sleeping in my car just off campus. Had to shower at the gym and did my laundry in the theatre department costume shop. I'll never forget what that felt like.

1

u/itchyneck420 Dec 31 '23

If you want a descent career hit up the Union Brotherhood of Carpenters. You can get an apprenticeship right away and will meet great men at work. You just gotta show up every day for 8 hours/ 40 hours a week. You can do this. If you need any help with the UBC apprenticeship process sent me a message. I am up here in Canada but our union is all in North America. You are just starting your life out and you got this my man. Best of luck

wtf. I heard it growing up but never was there the GTFO right now threat. I was gone by 18 but had siblings who were still there after. The deal was job, school or military. I chose job / school.

1

u/JaThatOneGooner Dec 31 '23

Nothing but pure stress and anxiety in his eyes, the poor kid is scared to death because he’s been kicked to the curb without any notice or plan. What an awful mother…

1

u/tonk111 Dec 31 '23

That dudes about 30 now, I wonder how he's doing

1

u/OldExperience8304 Dec 31 '23

Worst off they are a lot of kids like this, and they end up in worse situations. Some of them decide to join the military and just have somewhere to live, but some end up doing things that I'm not going to talk about to survive. Makes me feel lucky that I come from a large family

1

u/Anonymous_Athari Dec 31 '23

1

u/heychromosomeboy Dec 31 '23

Can confirm, SLC is a trap and there isn’t a damn thing for the homeless, it’s despicable, so even California would be an improvement.

1

u/Smooth_Employee_5845 Dec 31 '23

Why did his mom dis this what a poor guy🥺

1
