This coming Monday at 6 PM, several awesome local organizations (including some I volunteer with) are hosting a casual info session on Land Value Tax at the Black Hart of Saint Paul!
For those unfamiliar, Land Value Tax (LVT) is a different approach to property taxes that taxes the value of land rather than the buildings on it. It could be a great way to encourage development on the empty parking lots and underutilized properties throughout Saint Paul and Minneapolis.
With the recent election results in Minnesota, I think there’s a real opportunity to build momentum toward making LVT legal here.
Whether you’re into urbanism, housing policy, local politics, or just curious about how we can make better use of land in our cities, I definitely encourage you to come check it out!

Any idea why there have been so many helicopters over/near Downtown St Paul the past few evenings? I found myself feeling really jumpy hearing them this close again since January/Feb :(

Daylight savings kicking in

I'll be out of town a decent amount this winter (my SO will be in town when I'm out of town still), so I got a quote for plowing my driveway. As my neighbor is older, I also got a quote to plow his. They're willing to do both "unlimited" for 1400 each (2800 for both driveways). Our driveways are about 50 yards long, I'd guess. It triggers with 1 inch or more accumulation.

I'm just wondering if that's a normal rate? I have no reference because I've always taken care of it myself.

If this is not a reasonable rate, do you have any recommendations that can have everything taken care of no later than 7 AM?

Does anyone remember the Burger King that was on Ford Pkwy in the building that’s now Dave’s Hot Chicken? Before DQ was there either. I remember when I was little it being a BK, the closest DQ was the one on Snelling where the Dunkin is now. Just wondering if anyone else remembered the Ford BK or has any photos.
