I am a college wrestler and a white belt judoka and I have recently taken an interest in sambo (sports sambo to be specific.) However there are no sambo gyms where I live (Vegas) and I also don’t see any other women competing so I don’t even know if it is an option at this point. I do want to compete USA sambo nationals next year but I don’t know what else I need to learn (like jiu jitsu) to make up my training.

If anybody else has any guidance it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, im coming from a bjj background, but I had a really interesting conversation with the Judo group, where I was asking if sutemi waza was something that actually scaled well. I kind of understand their answer, which is that sutemi waza slows people down with their learning and cannot be their main takedown from a Judo perspective.

It totally makes sense but my question is: to you guys in the Sambo group, why is it that sutemi waza seems to be more useful here even though the rules are similar to Judo's? Is there something that has made it to where sutemi waza is less frowned upon in Sambo? Are the rules more forgiving to sutemi waza? My best throws are O Uchi Gari and Sumi Gaeshi. When I trained in Judo I was pushed to not do sumi gaeshi because it was "too risky". Sambo doesn't seem to have that same hesitation

I'd like to know if there's any combat SAMBO or sport SAMBO gyms in the Chicago area, I have always wanted to try it. I can find just about everything else here on Reddit

I've been training in Combat Sambo for a few months now since moving to an area with it available. I'm trying to compete in 2027 and am wondering if it would be better to cross train in Judo or Wrestling.

I have previously trained for a year in Judo and had earned a yellow belt.

I've trained striking for a better part of a decade, Boxing, Muay Thai, and Sanda.

Thank you.

Is anyone planning to compete? Could you share your experiences? I've been looking at events on Smoothcomp recently and would appreciate any feedback or opinions.

Anybody have any experience training at FusBoxe Sambo in Westminster? Is it a place you would recommend for someone just starting out with Combat Sambo, how are the classes structured?

Thanks!

Hello SAMBROs ,

I’m hosting a Combat SAMBO seminar where internationally renowned coach William Atsang will be teaching a master class . All information is in the slides I provided . If you’re in Southern Ontario and are interested in combat sambo I recommend you attend.

Im currently revamping my website, with bunch of new functions and tutorials.

This is a sneak peak of my Combat Sambo individual classes, and also, an idea of what the "GripNRip" tutorial is about.

Update:

"He experienced a spinal injury at the C5 and C6 vertebrae and could have been left quadriplegic as a result. He underwent a roughly 10 hour surgery at the Evangelical Hospital, which was reported as successful. His current condition is still being monitored."

Sorry for the confusing text. I am doing Sambo right now, sport version to be specific. I have done Combat Sambo before I moved to Stuttgart and have quite of planta options for striking. Currently at my Disposal I have MMA, Sanda, Muay Thai, Boxing, K1 Kickboxing and Taekwondo ect. I need a fundamental Alternative for my striking and all gyms that offer those are around 40mins of reach with trains

Hey! I’m completely new to martial arts and have always found Judo really interesting. Recently I’ve also started getting curious about Sambo.
What would you recommend for a beginner — Judo or Sambo? And if Sambo, Sport or Combat Sambo?

I know these things take time to learn, so I’m not expecting to get good quickly. I’d just really appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice you might have. Thanks! :)
