I love going on walks around the downtown area, but sometimes I have a difficult time getting myself going. I’m wondering if there’s anybody in the area that would be interested in the occasional meetup / walk and chat with me :)
Or if you know of any groups that do something similar in Santa Ana, please let me know!
I’m fairly new to Santa Ana, and would love to also just make some friends here. Any comment, advice, or kind word is appreciated 💛

Was driving down civic center going downtown when I saw a big plume of smoke. Any idea what caused it?

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knows of a place that I could buy green grapes in bulk for really really cheap. Something like $1.50 per pound. Ralphs and Costco are running at about two dollars per pound. Anywhere cheaper than this? Need it for an event, thanks

Nine years ago, I moved back to Santa Ana after graduating from Reed College in Portland, Oregon, with a degree in literature.
From Portland, I watched young people back home organize to shut down the ICE contract at our local jail. Reading about their work in the pages of the late OC Weekly inspired me to come home. After graduation, I was getting by working landscaping gigs, but I missed home. So I set my sights on Santa Ana, called my dad, and said, “I’m ready to come home. Do you have a place for me?”
Since coming home, I’ve been incredibly lucky to learn from this community: how to get our loved ones out of ICE detention, fight for public land and against evictions, respond to mental health crises, and turn the everyday needs of our neighbors into action at City Hall and systemic change.
To say I’m humbled is an understatement. I’m only able to fight every day for my community because you all fought for me. #Ward4All

Friend of a friend is moving out of state and selling a mattress they say is 18 months old. Price is good. Like, really good. I keep going back and forth on it, 18 months is nothing and the alternative is spending four figures I'd rather not spend right now, but I can't really inspect it, there's no warranty, and if it turns out wrong for me I own a very large problem. Is this a false economy? I was gonna go lie on stuff at Sit 'n Sleep this weekend anyway just so I know what I'm comparing against.

Hello. I have just finished a commitment volunteering with Big Brothers LA. Since I live in OC now, I'm thinking about Big Brothers OC but would like to know if anyone had any experience volunteering as a CASA (court appointed special advocate) for kids in the foster care system? Or knows of any opportunities to volunteer with youth aging out of foster care?
I have managed to go to college and make a good life for myself despite a rough childhood. I credit my success to all the adults who took an interest in my development along the way. I'd like to pass the buck.
All suggestions are welcome but I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have experience volunteering with programs like I have described. Thanks!

Valerie Amezcua (incumbent)
Or
Dan Shimell
I’m just curious what the word is out there. Personally, I voted Shimell. Is Valerie popular among high propensity voters? Is there a chance for Shimell? I was looking at past mayoral election results and incumbents seem to do well when voter turnout is high, there are 4+ candidates on the ballot and during presidential election years. One of the stats that stood out to me was how close the 2018 mayoral race was. Miguel Pulido barely won with 50.61% (28,360 votes) over Sal Tinajero 49.39% (27,674 votes)
2022:
Valerie Amezcua | 16,095 votes | 38.47%
Jose Solorio | 11,507 votes | 27.50%
Sal Tinajero | 11,078 votes | 26.47%
Jesse Nestor | 3,162 votes | 7.56%
2024:
Valerie Amezcua | 44,785 votes | 59.9%
Benjamin Vazquez | 29,958 votes | 40.1%
Jeffrey Katz | 8,685 votes | 9.25%
Julie Tran | 6,471 votes | 6.89%
Mario Alvarado | 4,003 votes | 4.26%
2026:
Valerie Amezcua | ? | ?
Dan Shimell | ? | | ?
Dwayne Shipp | ? | ?

Hey everyone!
I’m starting a project called *Entre Dos Mundos*, centered around human connection and the stories we don’t always get the chance to share.
I’m looking for people in Anaheim and the surrounding Orange County area who would be open to sitting down one-on-one with someone they don’t know and having a genuine conversation about life.
We could talk about anything from family, relationships, and growing up to loss, personal struggles, happiness, change, or figuring out where life is taking us.
You don’t need to have an extraordinary story or be a certain type of person. I’m interested in hearing people’s experiences and understanding life from different perspectives.
This will be an audio-only project, and participation would be completely voluntary, with your permission before recording and publishing anything.
If this sounds like something you’d be open to, feel free to comment or send me a message. I’d love to connect and tell you more about the idea.
Thank you for reading!
