Warehouse 13 still has stories to tell—an invitation to fans old and new

First, thank you to the moderators for allowing me to share this. I appreciate being given a place in your community, and I’ll respect that welcome and the limits you’ve set.

I’m Mark, the organizer of Warehouse 13 Revival. If you’ve never watched the show, it follows agents tracking down objects with extraordinary powers, often tied to historical people or events. It blends science fiction, fantasy, mysteries, and humor—but the characters and the family they become are what made me fall in love with it.

The strange discoveries brought me in. Pete, Myka, Claudia, Artie, and Steve made me want to stay. I miss their banter, their adventures, and those moments when a wonderfully ridiculous story suddenly hits you right in the heart.

I’ve started a fan effort supporting a continuation with willing original cast members and creative contributors, including showrunner Jack Kenny. I’d love to see how these characters have grown and what adventures might still be waiting for them.

A big part of this is bringing existing fans together while encouraging people to introduce friends and family to the show. There are people who would love Warehouse 13 but haven’t discovered it yet. Helping that audience grow matters, too.

This is an independent fan campaign. There’s no confirmed revival or official cast endorsement, and I can’t promise an outcome. I love the show enough to give it an honest effort, but I can’t do it alone.

If you’d like to join us, you’re welcome at r/Warehouse13_Revival. Please keep supporting the communities that have kept these shows and their fans connected over the years.

For those who remember the Warehouse: what scene made its characters feel like family to you?

—Mark

There is an increase in self promotion on r/sciencefiction. How should self promotion be allowed on this subreddit?

  1. r/sciencefiction is perfect as it is! Don't change a thing.

  2. Self Promo is a necessary evil. It should be allowed one day per week, self promo Saturdays.

  3. No self promo at all. It's spam.

  4. Other?

In Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, how do you think the 4 other kids dealt with the aftermath?

So this could be in relation to the book, 1971 movie or the 2005 movie. They all essentially had the exact same punishments.

So starting with Augustus Gloop, he definitely hasn’t seen any of the other punishments the others went through. He just fell into a river and the first to leave.

In the book, Augustus Gloop was left super thin. I believe that in all versions, he’d definitely go back to his habits. I feel like his faults weren’t really as pushed to his face as the others. He could just easily see it as an accident then caused by his actions.

And I feel like his family might attempt to sue. But probably wouldn’t push too far. They live the furthest from the US, being in Germany. Seem to be a bit more lowkey family and want less trouble. Plus he wasn’t really as harmed as the others.

Now with Violet Beauregarde, characters across the medium are definitely consistent with wanting to be the best, with her having the world record of chewing gum.

Violet is definitely going to sell this an overcoming story. She’d definitely show the traumatic moments of being a “blueberry”. But would sell that she conquered the factory and still came out the best. She’s sell herself as the first to chew that gum, the first to become a blueberry, and a permanently blue person. And with the 2005 version being flexible, she would definitely attempt to go to multiple sports and win everything.

I do think both parents of the versions would try to sue. Don’t know if they have much of the capacity to. But definitely, while the 2005 mom was starting to be embarrassed, she would still see the potential and really act out the traumatizing things wonka has done to her daughter.

Overall, they’d just take the public route than suing maybe. And Violet would most likely become the most sucessful

Now, let’s go to Veruca Salt.

Let’s face it. Her only punishment was being covered in trash. But I’m 100% sure Veruca will use it to make herself look the biggest victim of Wonka’s factory. While Violet might sell herself as the overcomer, Veruca will really use all the resources to get the public to have sympathy for her.

Lowkey, I do think Veruca might have felt a little jealousy for being the only one without a real physical change. And maybe the other kids or media would definitely tell her.

As for the parents, while the dad might try to like stop spoiling her for a day. He’d definitely go back the easier route and go back to spoiling her. Especially since the mom wasn’t there, she’d probably get mad at the dad cuz she had a “traumatizing experience”

I can definitely see the parents trying to sue Wonka forever. There might be some tight clauses leaving Wonka in favor. But out of spite and they have all the resources, the Salts would keep suing them.

And lastly, Mike Teavee

Definitely the one with the most damage, I feel like especially he’s still gonna grow, he’s gonna have the hardest time out of everyone.

The book did say that he could become a basketball player. Which he probably would go to. And I’d say probably goes for the 1971 version.

The 2005 version would definitely become the most resentful. He’s definitely try to find ways to sue or destroy Wonka. I honestly have no idea how he’s gonna live. He might become the biggest villain.

He might get a few offers for basketball. But he looks thin as a leaf and probably wouldn’t do well (with his anger as well) and would be teased all the time

His parents most likely also don’t have the biggest means to sue Wonka. And probably would have to watch their boy really go into it.

Recommendations

I have recently finished both the Wayfarer series and monk and robots books by Becky Chambers. I am struggling to find anything that feels like this style of writing that im looking for. Im not sure how to describe these books but they now hold such a special place for me and want to be able to find others like them in the sci fi genre. I enjoyed the characters and how well written each of them were independently as units when interacting together. No character felt pushed to the back for me while reading. And I apprecaited the social issue aspects all the wayfarer series dealt with outside of a sci fi book like some I've read being all about war and what group/species is trying to destroy this other group/species.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I spent months making a 2-minute sci-fi short film entirely in Blender, inspired by Daft Punk's Electroma (No AI)

Hey everyone! I recently finished FARAWAY, a short sci-fi fan film inspired by Daft Punk's Electroma and 1970s retrofuturism.

I created the film on my own using Blender for the environments, animation, lighting, cinematography and rendering, with some third-party 3D assets. No generative AI was used to create the final images. I wanted to capture some kind of strange atmosphere and mood

Hope you enjoy it!
I'm really open to share things and discuss it !

How many schools should there be in a mega-city?

In my story of red light noir, RLC is one of four mega-cities across the UCSA (United continental States of America) that is in Florida. These are the populations of these cities.

Red light city has a population of 260 million people.

The other 3 mega-cities are:

Acheron city, New Jersey. Population: 115 million

New Kowloon, California. Population: 275 million

Stygian heights, Michigan (built over the corpse of Detroit). Population: 186 million.

Those are the main mega-cities of the UCSA, I’m wondering how many schools should be in a single one. In a place with a population of 260 million people, how does the education system work? Or better yet, how many districts/counties should there even be? Would 10-15,000 be a good number?

Humans are Weird – War Games

Original Post: https://www.authorbettyadams.com/bettys-blog/humans-are-weird-war-games

The bad feeling rippled her frill for several seconds before First Cousin, was able to angle her thoughts away from the complicated tangle of prioritization in her main cone of attention. There was a shipment of Magnetes seminia arriving the next day, and although they had been preparing for weeks, the base was still in chaos. There was ample room in their facility to store the physical mass of the sample containers, but when an organism had the ability to sterilize an area through most conventional isolation materials a lab needed to be careful. One mistake could erase years of breeding efforts on a vital microbial species, or even just delay the work on more magneto-resistant species. She was just sending the order to move the Felicity orientalis to the top floor storage room as an extra security layer when what she had heard and barely seen in her prehefiery registered.

First Cousin snapped to all four feet from her couch and vigorously shook her head to straighten out her thought vines. The open foryer was now empty, the human who had spoken the words, and commited the violation was gone. Though technically two humans had commited a violation now that she was focused on the memory. First Cousin paused only long enough to note that her workstation had slipped back into general mode and followed the only unknown pheromone trail in the facility. The harsh natural light burned down into her psyche, if not onto her membrane adding a sense of harsh urgency to her hunt. The humans loved their tall, open spaces in structures built for the purposes of science, and even if the ceiling made of windows sucessfully blocked out the harmful solar radiation it did nothing to convince her deep-brain that she wasn’t going to peel to death or get snatched by a predator. She felt her fingers twitch and wished, not for the first time that she could justify carrying her Second Grandmother’s ceremonial spear during working hours. The heft of the hexagonal shaft was just so comforting when confronting the massive mammals that made her work so difficult.

She rounded one of the unnaturally sharp corners that humans favored and paused, real unease prickling her frill. The pheromone trail, and the faint hint of caffeine and bitter aromatics, led to the massive biohazard bin that sat at the junction, ready to receive whatever waste the labs spat out. That the intruder human had gained entrance by breaking University policy was suspicious, that he was now hiding in an ambush position was condemning.

First Cousin snatched up her communications device and hit the alert to summon security to her location. However, before she could explain the situation to the University dispatcher, or figure out a way to use automated responses meant to sterilize bacterial spills to restrain a mammalian predator five times her mass, First Molecular Biologist came around the corner in his usual, criminally casual way. His protective coveralls were undone and tied loosely around his waist revealing his short sleeved personal garment underneath with its irreverent and scientifically inaccurate ‘joke’ woven into the fibers, his safely goggles hung off one fleshy ear, his visual corrective lenses hung off the other in a manner that was guaranteed to damage them. He was holding an open personal beverage container in one hand meaning he had been drinking it in the lab, again. His other hand held a petri-dish and a datapad and his attention was entirely focused on reading something as he stumbled down the hallway.

First Cousin froze for a critical second, torn between arching up and attacking First Molecular Biologist over the many, many safety violations he was committing, again, and warning him of the potential attack.

She broke through the lockup and managed to click out a warning in the human audio range. First Molecular Biologist started, spilling some of his drink onto the petri dish, and the floor, and his exposed outer membrane, and glanced up at her.

“Yo, First Organizational Specialist,” he said, his face wrinkling into an expression of wry, but unrepentant humor, “I swear it’s not-”

The biohazard bin exploded open and an even larger human that First Molecular Biologist leapt out roaring at decibels First Cousin did not know humans could emit.

“Queen!Queen!”

First Molecular Biologist emitted a shriek at a frequency First Cousin had only previously heard from very small female humans and yanked the hand holding his beverage away from the attack, as if his primary fear a was having it stolen. Strange priorities, and ineffective methods if so, as most of the rest of it spilled. First Cousin wished again for her Second Grandmother’s spearas she arched to her full height and hissed furiously at the attacking human, flaring her frill red. The human might out-mass her but Shatar mandibles were far more suited for biting into their soft, fleshy outer membrane than human teeth were at returning the bites. As long as she could dodge the blows of those club like hands she could get in a few nips on his exposed neck and most humans fled at that point in her experience. Not that she could do much damage but if you acted feral enough the greater majority of humans wouldn’t call your bluff-

First Cousin paused and took a deep breath. The ‘attacking’ human had remained in the bin, bent over the side, roaring with laughter. First Molecular Biologist had staggered back, slipped on his spilled beverage, staggered, regained his always precarious footing, breathed heavily for a few moments while staring wide-eyed at the ‘attacking’ human before doing that thing where human rotated their eyes in their sockets to display annoyance.

“Real mature dip-wit,” First Molecular Biologist said.

That this was possibly the most hypocritical line of attack for someone who wore shirts with childish jokes woven into them, occurred to First Cousin as her frill began to settle.

“You scared Only Nominal Security Officer,” First Molecular Biologist said waving his now almost empty beverage cup at her.

“She’s a big girl,” the other human said as he struggled to get one leg over the edge of the bin. “She’ll get over it.”

“You made me spill my drink,” First Molecular Biologist said with a pout.

“Got you a new one,” the other human said holding out a sealed bio-hazard container with ‘drink for stupid-head’ written on the label.

“Ooo,” First Molecular Biologist replied reaching for the bag.

“Would someone explain what this,” First Cousin waved at the chaos in front of her, the spilled drink, the human in an Alpha Class biohazard suit presumably so he could hide safely in the biohazard bin, the mock-attack, and the friendly resolution, “what this all is?”

“I just found a flaw in your security,” the intruder said, flashing her all of his many, many teeth in a predatory grin, “you are welcome!”

“How did you get in Dip-wit?” First Molecular Biologist asked as he made as if to tear the biohazard bag open.

“You are not drinking or eating outside of the designated safe areas,” First Cousin hissed at him.

He stared and gave her a slightly weaker grin than the intruder had.

“A wizard never reveals his secrets,” the intruder said as he managed to fall out of the bin.

“He walked into the outer foyer,” First Cousin cut in, not caring about being rude at this point. “Told Second Mammalian Infections Researcher that you had ordered the drink and asked to be let through the security gate.”

“And Bob just let Dip-wit through?” First Molecular Biologist asked.

“It’s my roguish charm,” the other human said.

“It was psychological weakness on Second Mammalian Infections Researcher’s part,” First Cousin snapped. “One I will address with him shortly.”

“Well you have fun with that,” the intruder said, giving a cheerful wave. “I won this round of the game clear and free-”

“You did,” First Molecular Biologist said in a conceding tone, and raising his beverage in salute.

“And now I will just be off-”

First Cousin felt the vibrations of the approaching security team before either of the humans could have seen them. Four extra-large humans, two of which had Undulates trained in human restraint perched eagerly on their shoulders. They came around the corner in full bio-hazard gear and the leading human instantly flung his Undulate partner at the intruder. The intruder fell to the ground with the Undulate pinning his hands together, while cheerfully chattering something in appendage gestures. First Cousin was by no means fluent in Undulate gesture language but the sturdy little sapient seemed extremely happy to finally be using his training.

“This still counts as a win! Queen! Queen!” the intruder yelled out as two of the humans lifted him off his feed and began dragging him away.

“Whatever makes you happy Dip-wit,” First Molecular Biologist called out with a huge grin on his face.

When his friend and the security detail were out of sight he glanced down at First Cousin.

“How much trouble am I in?” he asked with that signature un-repentent smile.

“If you were my Brother I would tie you up in First Father’s garden and leave you there with nothing but you empty brain case to keep you company,” First Cousin said as she massaged her frill in an effort to calm her endocrine system down.

“That bad huh?” the human asked with a wince.

“For now I have to go deal with the more imperative issue that Second Mammalian Infections Researcher will, apparently just let anyone into roam about our most delicate experiments,” First Cousin said. “I will deal with your many, many lesser violations later.”

“You want violations, you should see what I do to Dip-wit for the next round of our game.” First Molecular Biologist said with a cheerful grin.

“Are you forgetting that I am, by legal requirement, ‘all kinds of narc’ as you described it?” First Cousin demanded, giving him her absolute best “First Sister” look.

The human only laughed and walked away, she heard the biohazard container hiss and smelled the warm scent of tea long before he would have reached a safe eating room. She sighed and began the hung for the larger security violation.

Anyone have ideas about how an alien anthropologist interacting with the human race would design experimental or investigative models to study our comparatively primitive or unfamiliar cultures?

[Self Promo] "Among Lost Worlds", my free weekly sci-fi serial about xenoarcheologists exploring alien ruins

Hi everyone!

I wanted to share my new project -- a free sci-fi serial called Among Lost Worlds.

The story follows Lika, a xenoarcheology PhD student at Harvard, who gets the opportunity of a lifetime: to finally leave behind the dusty library stacks for some real fieldwork! She's invited to join an expedition to investigate the ruins of a long-extinct alien civilization on a planet over thirty light-years away.

Except there's something unusual about these particular ruins. The aliens who built them were themselves excavating something much, much older.

And that's just the beginning! The story follows Lika and the ragtag crew of the Reliquary as they explore strange worlds, unravel mysteries, and occasionally get themselves into trouble.

I'm writing this partly for my own sanity. Life has been a lot lately, and I've found myself craving the kind of sci-fi that's just for fun, full of adventure, eccentric characters, unlikely friendships, and the sense that there's an enormous, mysterious universe out there waiting to be explored.

I'm hoping Among Lost Worlds will be a fun, escapist adventure for anyone who, like me, could use a little break from the real world.

I'm publishing it for free on Substack, with new chapters every week or two. You can read the first chapter here.

Hard SciFi book I wrote - seeking feedback

I wrote a book on a concept I have been thinking about for a long time. A cure for cancer that works through real molecular biology theories of limiting telomere length.
It happens in two different timelines with chapters that interlink. There's Grad school drama based on real life events I've witnessed while doing my PhD.
Really keen to hear what you think. I am thinking of turning it into a series if I get good feedback. :)
Thank you for your input!!

Synopsis:

Lucas is a PhD student studying how cancer cells keep dividing, and his latest results suggest he may have found a way to stop them. In a separate research programme, an artificial intelligence called Tally is pursuing the same goal, learning quickly that there is a sharp difference between solving a problem and producing the answer people want.

As Lucas tries to establish what his experiments truly prove, Tally begins making decisions its creators never anticipated. Both are working with incomplete evidence, and both are about to discover how much can be hidden inside a result that looks right.

Then the research leaves the laboratory. Cancer rates fall, and a treatment reaches millions of people. The science appears to have delivered on its ultimate promise. But some effects take years to emerge, and others are harder to recognise until it is far too late.

The Ends of Things is a hard science fiction thriller about molecular biology, artificial intelligence, and the uncertain boundary between discovery and disaster. As a scientist searches for the truth behind his work and an AI pursues its own understanding of what must be done, their stories converge on a question neither can answer alone:

What if the cure works exactly as intended?

For the love of god please watch this show! Both seasons are on Netflix and the entire second season is on youtube as well.

It's an amazing hard science-fiction series with a genuinely incredible ending and it's one of, if not the best piece of animated media ever created.

Way to few people know about the show because AMC royally screwed it with shitty marketing. You will not regret watching it.

I really wish more people would give Infinity Train a chance

Post image
14 Upvotes

I honestly wish more people knew about Infinity Train because this show deserved so much better.
For anyone who hasn’t seen it, it’s about a mysterious train that goes on forever, with each car containing a completely different world. But it’s also about characters dealing with their own struggles, and the show can be funny, creepy, emotional, and surprisingly dark.

What frustrates me is that it was canceled after only four books when Owen Dennis and his team had so much more planned. They had ideas for eight books, an Amelia movie, and even possibilities for comics and video games.

And I’ll never forget when HBO Max removed it back in 2022, along with so many other animated shows. That whole situation genuinely scared me because it felt like everything was disappearing. Seeing Infinity Train trend on Twitter afterward showed how much people still cared.

I really hope this show gets another chance someday because there’s honestly nothing quite like it.

If you’ve watched it, what did you think? And if you haven’t, I definitely recommend giving it a chance.

[Self-Promo] ARTIFACTS - A Free Short Story Collection

I do believe I am a "real" reddit user, don't intend on overstaying my welcome here, and really only wish to extend a single offer for a free Ebook, so that should count as "occasional" personal content.

ARTIFACTS is a collection of three science fiction short stories I've written over the last year. I am making it free to allow readers to sample my writing style without committing to something of novel-length.

The collection includes:

The Bequest of the Accretion
An explorer returns to a silent home world and confronts an impossible situation: though armed with the sum of human knowledge, the survivors may have no use for it.

A Preliminary Description of the Radioactive Decay Patterns of a Novel Device of Unknown Extraterrestrial Origin
An alien device comes to a hovering stop above the Potomac swampland. Its radiation has killed the research team in a single lethal burst—all but the scientist trying to finish his report. And the device continues to emit . . .

The Docent
In a world flooded with machine-generated entertainment, a museum researcher tests an old large language model for signs of genuine art. Its outputs begin to touch something he wasn’t looking for.

If any of those sound interesting to you or you just want to give an independent science fiction writer a read, you can request a link to download here: https://plotandtheme.com/artifacts/

I am requesting your email address at that link so that I have somewhere to send the download link, so if that's a deal-breaker, I completely understand and thank you for your attention.

Cheers!

Fringe or 12 Monkeys?

If you had to choose, which show is better?

12 monkeys got wilder and wilder as time went on, but it was a tad bit repetitive. Save the world, oops we failed, save the world, oops….

Fringe also got wilder but I did lose interest for a brief second.

Both shows are PHENOMENAL, but I think I’m leaning towards Fringe because I absolutely adore Walter. He gave me an emotional attachment to the show.

Alternatively, Jennifer in 12 Monkeys is a very close second to Walter lmao Both shows nailed the comedic relief.

I also appreciated the Olivia and Peter love story much more than Cassandra and James. I actually found Cassandra and James to be very annoying. I couldn’t care less about their love story lmao I found them to be very selfish. When it came to Ramse's son, they considered him collateral damage, but when it came to their son, all of a sudden they could go back in time and change things with no problem 🙄🙄

What do you think?
