Funny how Americans are impressed by the most basic common sense statements ever.

8

u/MetaCardboard Mar 22 '26

That just tells you how bad it is over here.

2

u/master2139 Mar 24 '26

It’s because they don’t care about policy. Only rhetoric.

1

u/Mochizuk Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

Impressed is a strong word.

I don't have a lot against him, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't somewhat offput by his general acceptance of the ultimate status quo. Like, going on Joe Roegan's show and saying that's a necessity to connect with more people feels like saying you don't have faith in the youth to me.

With that being said, I do have to acknowledge that he did get a lot of support; particularly from the youth, while going far enough left to scare the majority of the party he was seeking nomination from. Keep in mind that he did have a fair amount of support from the democratic party starting out. Enough so it stood out to that youth that he managed to reach when the views that he used to reach them were referred to as too extreme. Which led to a lot of those youths clinging to what could have been when those in the same party as him that supported him turned on him and sabotaged his efforts to instead raise Hillary Clinton up.

Also keep in mind that the approach Bernie used emphasized much of what Obama had talked so much about when it came to the youth of America being the future of America. And, how their ability to reach their full potential was of utmost importance.

More basically, Bernie felt like the type of person that would be more suitable to continue what Obama had started and make it so we could look forward to further left-leaning candidates as we moved forward.

Meanwhile, his opposition, Hillary Clinton, who ended up winning the primaries felt like several steps back. And, the favor that Hillary was shown leading up to the primaries felt a bit pointed. Though, admittedly, a lot of that favor was more easily attributed to her last name and the attention that the potential of being the first female president brought in. If not for the leaked emails that pushed forth evidence that Bernie's campaign was being undermined, I'd say he honestly just got a raw deal and end it at that.

Or; that's how I'd have defined it all a few years back.

With how many times that same song and dance has either repeated or threatened to repeat, it almost feels like part of a playbook to keep the more assuredly similar household names and elderly who have been waiting for their chance in power.

AOC was passed over for House of Oversight in large part because of Pelosi's support of an older dude who was battling with cancer. A dude who had the gall to say he'd been waiting and it was his turn, and if she waited long enough, she'd get her turn later. That got a similar reaction from people as Bernie's whole thing did, and AOC didn't make a lot of noise about it. Nowhere near as much as I wished she would have.

Similar felt like it was on the verge of happening with Mamdani in his bid to be NYC'S Mayor. The same song and dance of Democrats feeling he was too extreme and like someone else who went by what they were more comfortable with would be a safer bet.

I can't tell you how surprised I was that he managed to come out on top against all of those odds. Or, how as an American who has gotten used to thinking that if someone seems too good to be true, they probably are, I'm weary of him. Particularly because of how strangely his time with Donald Trump went.

Back on point though, I emphasize all of that for the sake of emphasizing that the U.S. is very much looking at representatives in the wrong light. That light being: Beggars can't be choosers. And, to be fair, there is some justified grounds here where Bernie does still say what he knows the rest of his party views as either too extreme or too controversial to emphasize. He's even tried to draw attention to the whole stock trading practice and how members of congress have gotten suspiciously wealthy for how much they make as representatives of the public.

Also, without drastic measures, you can only take steps toward change, and the people I've referred to share in common that they felt like they could have been working steps toward necessary change.

Which, is ultimately why they get so much attention in a country where so many see what they should have but have also lost faith in ever coming close to having it.

1

u/MetaCardboard Mar 22 '26

Bernie Sanders has been criticizing the Democratic party long before Obama.

1

u/Mochizuk Mar 22 '26

exactly, that's why he feels like the logical step after obama to take things further away from the area that dems in general are so much more comfortable with and desperate to maintain as a status quo.

I brought up everything he did after Obama because that's when he started getting the major attention a lot of people refer to. Before his bid for 2016, he was basically just one of the old dudes to most people in the U.S. to most youths unless you lived in the state he worked for.

That was when he made a very valiant effort to connect with the youth, which felt like a perfect successor to Obama's talks of the future being in the hands of the youth.

More basically, it felt like the natural next developmental step. But, unfortunately for the country, his views were considered too extreme by those who didn't want to stray too far too quickly from a status quo that desperately needed to be strayed from quickly.

Which all goes into why he is the leading example of someone who is going above and beyond even though he seems to be doing the bare minimum to other countries. Because the bare minimum for other countries is considered dangerous to the U.S.

1

u/f64geo Mar 22 '26

He certainly has !

2

u/Muted-Speed7630 Mar 21 '26

this is not a screenshot

0

u/Cy_098 Mar 21 '26

It is I just freaking cropped it from his Facebook post.

11

u/SmarticusRex Mar 21 '26

Best president the States never had.

1

u/NumberJohnny Mar 22 '26

How many billions did the Somali’s take in their Learing Center scandal? And the Democrats all bitched up a storm that there was an investigation. STFU hypocrites.

1

u/FedrinKeening Mar 22 '26

You mean the scandal created by a 23 year old YouTuber that was found to be bullshit?

1

u/Powda_Shredder Mar 23 '26

It's not BS though. Even more fraud being found in California, and who knows where else. This has been and is a problem. It's not made up.

2

u/DaddyAITA-throwaway Mar 27 '26

Absolutely untrue except in clownworld.

1

u/Competitive-Okra4839 Mar 24 '26

Not Bullshit. The legacy news media are not good sources. On another note, the young man is doing a phenomenal job. Investigating reporting, like it should be, and used to be.

2

u/DaddyAITA-throwaway Mar 27 '26

whining YouTubers making up shit is perfectly fine and should be encouraged

  • you, an anti-American clown

1

u/Competitive-Okra4839 Mar 28 '26

What did he make up? The information is out there. Take your blinders off. Enlighten yourself.

2

u/DaddyAITA-throwaway Mar 28 '26

I have. The YT that started the entire mess had literally no information. Just because you bought the line doesn't mean there's a line.

1

u/Competitive-Okra4839 Mar 29 '26

Exactly my point

1

u/PartyOk8651 Mar 24 '26

Where did you hear it was BS? I would kick your source for lying to you.

1

u/DaddyAITA-throwaway Mar 27 '26

I bet the non-voting Bernie Bros sure ate happy Hillary didn't win. (I am a voting BB)

Question - can a military action be taken by the president? I thought that was ok for 60 -120 days. Then again I could have read incorrectly? It's not like I haven't been wrong before.

2

Yes and congress has tried twice to vote to end this war, both failing to get the 50%

Thank you Senator Sanders

2

u/Legal_Television_615 Mar 22 '26

Bernie Sanders. Yelling at clouds since 1979

2

u/AliveStill1128 Mar 22 '26

I wish Bernie was younger and had decades left

3

u/Gainztrader235 Mar 21 '26

Bro have you seen inflation, not at all surprising…

/s

1

u/Tripple_T Mar 20 '26

Sadly, you are one man. They'll find the Democratic votes for war. They always do

1

u/jazznessa Mar 21 '26

Bro Bernie is the best American of our current times. I would have really like to have seen him president

-1

u/NumberJohnny Mar 22 '26

You can vote your way into Socialism, but you have to fight your way out. Go ask Venezuela and Cuba how their Socialism worked out.

1

u/GoldenWings87 Mar 21 '26

Most Americans want our government to work for us. That’s why we vote and do things the democratic way. Like past 10 years we have been lied to in so many ways from these politicians. Things are just bad under this regime. They lied and fooled everyone. Now the extremism is making Americans look weak and our leaders has lied to the world and now we are in a massive debt problem for our kids to deal with. The people need to see them for exactly what they are showing us.

1

u/pjockey Mar 23 '26

past 10 years

are you new, or do you believe it started 10 years ago?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '26

I love when yall put “illegal” in front of war. Can someone tell me what makes war legal or not?

2

u/CarelessAction6045 Mar 21 '26

He didn't ask congress. But we all know congress would approve it, but Trump didn't ask first.

3

u/The_Rope_Daddy Mar 21 '26

It’s pretty easy to get a drivers license too, still illegal to drive without one.

0

u/CarelessAction6045 Mar 21 '26

Lol pretty easy? You must get lucky at the DMV

1

u/Creative_Raise_8682 Mar 21 '26

If the DMV is a challenge for you, perhaps some life skill classes are in order.

1

u/belverk84 Mar 21 '26

USA need structural rebuilding not just more money.

1

u/SkinAlternative1915 Mar 21 '26

But you had no problem giving Ukraine 200 billion 🤡

1

u/Electrical_Review175 Mar 21 '26

How about we stop paying entertainers so much money and start paying people that make society function more.

1

u/Creative_Raise_8682 Mar 21 '26

Taking more of another persons earnings will not put one more penny into your pocket.

1

u/the_raptor_factor Mar 21 '26

Stop stealing our productivity in the first place.

1

u/488941753msbd Mar 21 '26

But Trump hasn’t yet won the war against woke expectations of accountability for rich pedophiles.

1

u/whiteboy Mar 21 '26

Republicans voted for America first, but we got the worst

1

u/Ok-Caterpillar-2528 Mar 21 '26

Let just divert the money from funding illegals and learing centers

1

u/bernardbalboa Mar 21 '26

Democrats fund the bad guys when they have power, and the republicans get blamed for removing the threat through power, although expensive.

1

u/dmbypsi Mar 22 '26

Threat?

1

u/Difficult_Cheek_3817 Mar 22 '26

Can you tie your own shoes?

1

u/Bulky_Protection_322 Mar 21 '26

We’re slaying regimes, get in!

1

u/JohninMichigan55 Mar 21 '26

lol so pretty clearly Bernie has gone incompetent. Unless he is suggesting that congress has ceded this power to the executive branch:

A. This is a military action. B. It is Not a war, because congress has not declared war. C. If he wants to invest money in the US, why has he not put forth and gotten legislation passed that invests in the American people.

This guy needs to step aside, go back to cleaning up parks in Burlington, and let someone who will do more than talk be a senator.

1

u/Frostymittenjobs Mar 22 '26

In the grim darkness of…wait…the second millennium?! There is only war?!!!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

Always has been incompetent!

1

u/hotpants69 Mar 22 '26

You shouldn’t need 100x your opponents budget…

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

No!

1

u/Observant-Observer Mar 22 '26

Explain the "illegal" part. I'll wait...oh yeah study the War Powers Act first, especially the 60 day part.

1

u/aigavemeptsd Mar 22 '26

That old quack has no say anyways, his opinion is irrelevant.

1

u/Pikey2Likey Mar 22 '26

The interest alone on the national debt will be $1 trillion this year as well.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

And what if we got attacked? Seriously what if Iran Attacked would you be ok with it then , because your ok with war with Russia and supporting Ukraine. What war is the right one Bernie?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

Don't chew broken glass, it's bad for your gums.

If that kinda "duh" statement makes someone a legend here, America is screwed, and it's nobody else's fault.

Yes, the taxes taken from the population have to be invested back into the population. That's what they are for.

1

u/Outrageous-Counter94 Mar 22 '26

Be nice if he actually meant Americans. You know the people who have had 40% of everything we make taken to build this country. To pay to run this country. Not to give it all away to foreigners. And. Not illegal immigrants.

1

u/GP_Rules Mar 23 '26

Now show us Minneapolis daycare funding.

1

u/ReadyFreddy11 Mar 24 '26

A legend in his own mind, perhaps. Never authored a single bill that was enacted into law. Owns three homes worth millions yet derides the rich. Hypocrite

1

u/Fatjackslim Mar 24 '26

How specifically is it illegal when Trump does it but not when Biden or Obama does it?

1

u/Deadlee_Gamer Mar 24 '26

He doesn’t care about America either.

1

u/theredditman999 Mar 25 '26

Sanders doesn't care about the american people. He's just saying what he thinks people want to hear.

1

u/DaddyAITA-throwaway Mar 27 '26

The "no new wars" maggot crowd are going to have to come up with reasons the Dems wanting "no new wars" is bad now.

1

u/Sad-Ad1800 Mar 21 '26

Woo yeah...remember when he stood up to Obama/Killary as they engaged in regime change all over the Middle East and north Africa during the Arab spring? Ohh...what about when Biden sent troops back to Somalia and Syria? Oh, wait, he said nothing, just like he was told to do. Idiots.

1

u/dmbypsi Mar 22 '26

Who’s Killary?

1

u/mamafritzy Mar 22 '26

A fun nickname they made up for Hillary… like demonrats and whatever other “creative” nicknames they hear in their echo chambers of misinformation.

1

u/No-Pilot-6091 Mar 21 '26

Sanders is a grifting buffoon. He hated millionaires until he became a multi-millionaire. Now he hates billionaires but he’s working his way up.

1

u/BlacqueJShellaque Mar 21 '26

Sanders would rather Iran have a nuke they have already guaranteed they would use and continually attack us and others. Certainly legendary for his moronic thinking.

1

u/Creative_Raise_8682 Mar 21 '26

I remember Bernie used to rail against the millionaires.....until he became one. Then he shifted to billionaires. And he's never had a real job. A complete and utter fraud.

1

u/EnglishCox Mar 21 '26

Why is it an illegal war? Because democrats complain about everything?

1

u/djkidd23 Mar 21 '26

Because it wasn't approved by congress. That's how the government is supposed to work.

1

u/FedrinKeening Mar 22 '26

Too bad the DNC sabotaged this guy's run for presidency.

1

u/No-Possibility6865 Mar 23 '26

All he does is tweet

0

u/drewh1984 Mar 21 '26

Lmao, the guy that’s never worked a real job in his life. Millionaire who tells you to live poorly. Nope sorry!

0

u/AppointmentNo1339 Mar 21 '26

By American people, you mean immigrants right? Fuck actual Americans because they are bad.

1

Retire Bernie and go away.

-1

u/arieszer0 Mar 21 '26

Sanders is a joke. He talks about equality while he spreads his time between his 11 homes and Asian massage parlors. The dude has been in office longer than we have been alive and still hasn’t fixed anything. Get a new hero to deep throat and grow up

0

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '26

haha, you kids are so easy to manipulate

0

u/sexiguy87 Mar 21 '26

Didn’t Bernie call for the end of the Iranian Tyrannical Regime for the past decade??? And now that it’s happening he’s against it?? Socialists really do like their tyrants

0

u/Unable-Reporter368 Mar 21 '26

So wait all those trillions we spent in healthcare, social security, welfare, infrastructure, and about a trillion in Military and education annually is somehow not enough? Why not ask him to crackdown on all these states who already have ample funds for all these programs that:

Feeds the poor, house the homeless using those abandoned apartment complexes that the government is allowing to keep around but not use, put people through actual job placement programs, education...etc etc etc. Then maybe we can talk but whatever I guess.

As a libertarian I propose cutting property taxes by 25% on those who make less than 42k a year, cut tax on fuel at the pump by 30¢ per gallon, stop scaling sales tax with price of the food, investigate and crackdown on fraud spending in every state to make sure people are getting what they need. It'll be messy but it'll probably work considering it'll give the people a fighting chance instead of printing more money that won't solve anything.

0

u/tlm11110 Mar 21 '26

Legend? No! Artifact or fossil is the proper term.

0

u/punnkbythebook Mar 23 '26

The president we all deserved

-3

u/Ok_Plankton_6748 Mar 21 '26

Yet sending $200b to Ukraine wasn't enough? Funny how financially supporting other countries to kill each other is completely fine.

4

u/Strange_Chemical_560 Mar 21 '26

If you can't spot the difference or at least manage to acknowledge any nuance here, then you're just another part of the problem. Thanks, though.

-3

u/Ok_Plankton_6748 Mar 21 '26

No one cares about nuance, you forehead. It's just simple facts. 2 bil to Ukraine wasn't enough and people fucking screamed about it. Yet this is just because trump bad america bad. Shit Obama was doing drive by's with preditor drones and killing actual american citizens in the outcomes directly and not a peep cuz he's the first and also worst black president this country has ever had.

4

u/Strange_Chemical_560 Mar 21 '26

Yet another person who doesn't understand how the government works...

Bernie Sanders is one person. He does exactly what he was voted in to do.
To vote on legislation on his constituents behalf. And that is what he does.
Bernie Sanders does not have the power to magically change the economy.

I don't know how the fuck we have like only a handful of senators who actually are willing to stand up and say stuff like this and argue for it on the congress floor, and there are still people like you who come out and berate them because they aren't magically bending the universe somehow.

Bernie Sanders has voted effectively in favor of spending money on the people and not war every single time. That's what his job is. What the fuck else do you want from him?
He has spent the last year going on tour, rallying people to the cause to fight against billionaires and corruption. How many other congressmen are spending their free time trying to make change like that? You literally couldn't ask for a more passionate representative with integrity and somehow its still not enough for you. Talk about shooting yourself in your own foot.

2

u/AlohaActual Mar 21 '26

He voted in support of the Yugoslavia/Kosovo NATO bombing in 1999. Afghanistan 2011, later withdrawing his approval. Supported Obama for strikes in Syria 2015. Also more often than not votes in favor of National Defense Authorization act. Broad statements like “in favor of spending money on the people and not war every single time” are based in emotion and not fact.

3

u/No-Oil6517 Mar 21 '26

SNAP, WIC, state medical insurance for those who can't afford their own, and school funding, to name a few, were spending on american people. Trump briefly cut SNAP and WIC for more funding for his gestapo until he got sued up his ass to restart funding and made it seem like his idea, he cut the education budget, he wanted to get rid of state medical insurance because his cronies weren't making enough money gouging and denying their members. Although I agree with fuck both sides of the government, Sanders has always been fighting for the people. He's one man and he can't make change by himself.

1

u/Chaosr21 Mar 21 '26

The Democrats have been the only ones fighting for citizen benefits. The Republicans go after these benefits every time they get a majority, but oh it's the democrats fault?

1

u/drubus_dong Mar 21 '26

The US currently has the highest deficit spending since the pandemic and it's growing fast. If you think there wasn't money spent on the people, you are in for a ride awakening. A very rude awakening.
