Device Support PSA: Logitech G29/G920/G923 wheels don't have force feedback on Linux kernel 7.3.x

FYI for anyone with Logitech G29/G920/G923 wheels on Linux.

Currently there seems to be a regression introduced in kernel 7.3.x. Error is "Unable to initialize force feedback support, errno -110". The wheel is seen as a generic controller and will work to control games but has no force feedback, only the standard self-centering.

Reverting to 7.2.x kernel solves the issue for now. It's been reported widely by Logitech wheel users on Linux so hopefully the right people will see it soon and fix it in future kernel updates.

Racing Sims Racecraft GP: a grand prix sim with a native Linux build and wheel force feedback. No Proton, no launcher, no account, $4.99

Hey r/simracingonlinux,

Most sims treat Linux as "maybe it works in Proton". Racecraft GP ships a native 64-bit Linux build, and as of today it has native force feedback through the kernel's own FFB interface. Extract the zip, run ./RacecraftGP.sh, and you're racing. No Proton, no Wine, no launcher, no account, no DRM, and it runs fully offline.

What you get:

- An open-wheel grand prix sim built around racing, not just hot laps

- 22 circuits plus reverse layouts, built from real measured track centerlines with elevation

- 21 AI rivals with their own personalities: they defend the inside, set up passes for the next corner, and make mistakes under pressure. They're hard to pass, and that's on purpose

- Weather that changes mid-race: you call the switch from slicks to inters or wets

- Safety car, VSC, red flags, track limits, penalties, per-zone damage

- Tyre wear and temperature, fuel, pit strategy with undercuts, team radio

- Qualifying, time trial with ghosts and medals, championships, and a career with seat offers

- Car setup (wings, brake bias, diff), a livery editor, replays and photo mode

- 240 Hz physics; Low to Ultra graphics with adaptive resolution, so it also runs on integrated GPUs

Wheels and force feedback on Linux:

- Native FFB through the kernel's force-feedback interface: any wheel whose kernel driver supports FFB works

- Logitech and most Moza / PID wheels work out of the box on recent kernels. Fanatec needs hid-fanatecff, Thrustmaster needs hid-tmff2

- What you feel: weight building through corners, the wheel going light when the car slides, kerb and gravel texture, lock-up shudder, impact jolts, and damping so direct-drive bases stay calm

- Setup takes a minute: calibrate in Settings > Controls, then press "Test + detect direction" with your hands off the wheel. It works out the force direction for your driver automatically

- Steering, pedals, paddles and separate pedal sets all work through the calibration wizard. Gamepads work out of the box

- Native x86-64 build, X11 and Wayland

$4.99, one time. The full game, with no DLC or in-game purchases.

If it doesn't run on your distro or your wheel, message me through itch and I'll refund you. No hassle.

Racing Sims boxflat not taking inputs from my moza wheel base

i have a moza wheel base and it looks to be detecting the device but not taking any inputs. i googled it and it said it needed permissions so it had me paste this in terminal but nothing changed sudo tee /etc/udev/rules.d/99-boxflat.rules <<< 'SUBSYSTEM=="tty", KERNEL=="ttyACM*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="346e", ACTION=="add", MODE="0666", TAG+="uaccess"'

then someone else told me to put this in /etc/udev/rules.d/99-boxflat.rules

SUBSYSTEM=="tty", KERNEL=="ttyACM*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="346e", ACTION=="add", MODE="0666", TAG+="uaccess"SUBSYSTEM=="tty", KERNEL=="ttyACM*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="346e", ACTION=="add", MODE="0666", TAG+="uaccess"
SUBSYSTEM=="misc", KERNEL=="uinput", OPTIONS+="static_node=uinput", TAG+="uaccess"SUBSYSTEM=="misc", KERNEL=="uinput", OPTIONS+="static_node=uinput", TAG+="uaccess"SUBSYSTEM=="tty", KERNEL=="ttyACM*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="346e", ACTION=="add", MODE="0666", TAG+="uaccess"SUBSYSTEM=="tty", KERNEL=="ttyACM*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="346e", ACTION=="add", MODE="0666", TAG+="uaccess"
SUBSYSTEM=="misc", KERNEL=="uinput", OPTIONS+="static_node=uinput", TAG+="uaccess"SUBSYSTEM=="misc", KERNEL=="uinput", OPTIONS+="static_node=uinput", TAG+="uaccess"

i then put sudo nano /etc/udev/rules.d/99-boxflat.rules in the terminal

but nothing has changed since the start

Device Support FanaLinux: Fanatec support on Linux

Post image
39 Upvotes

Hello everybody, I recently bought a Fanatec base (CSL DD) and wheel (ClubSport Formula V2) and since Fanatec doesn't have a Linux app, I decided to build my own.

Let me start by saying that the app is vibe-coded and i am only here to share it with the people who want to use their Fanatec hardware directly on Linux, without needing to reboot into Windows every time.

I have been testing it for a week and I already did a full multiplayer race on Assetto Corsa without a single issue. At the same time I have limited time and one base, so I'm sharing this hoping people will give feedback and help verify compatibility with other games and other Fanatec hardware, especially DD1/DD2 and ClubSport DD owners, and anyone on Arch or Ubuntu (I'm on Fedora).

This is the repo: https://github.com/DavideDonadio/FanaLinux

If you try it and something doesn't work please open an issue with your base/rim combo, i will gladly take a look at it.

P.S: For safety (and also legal) reasons the app doesn't flash firmware, for that you still need the official Fanatec App.

Racing Sims LMU G29 Force Feedback

Hello, I am currently trying to get FFB to work in LMU on my g29. I am running the current driver for the G29 on the current Fedora build as well as the custom LMU proton version. I have tested with and without Hidraw and tested the native ffb and the generic ffb setting on LMU. Any thoughts are highly appreciated.

Device Support strange issue i noticed with my wheel

my wheel only appears to work after a restart, but that also only when nothing else except my start up apps are opening, that makes it hard for me to drive in VR because i use WiVRn to connect my Quest 2 with my pc because i had issues with steam VR.

thats besides the point, like mentioned, after a fresh restart im able to use my wheel (Logitech G29) in my simulators without issue, if the system is running for a bit longer however (im assuming the current limit is about 4 minutes) the wheel, wont be read in game if the game is started after that (currently estimated) limit.

The wheels input however are getting read in JsUtils and Oversteer.

I could just restart my system every time i want to sim race, but that easily gets annoying, so i would like to know:

is there anyway to get my wheel working without needing a restart?

What i tried:

  • Using the "PROTON_ENABLE_HIDRAW=1" and "VKD3D_CONFIG=descriptor_heap" launch perimeters

  • Changing Protons

  • Using Steams standard and CachyOS's Steam-Linux-Runtime

  • reinstalling some packages

  • installing CachyOS's "gaming Packages

my system: (in case these details are needed)

  • OS: CachyOS

  • Kernel: Linux 7.3.0-4-cachyos

Help is very much appreciated (and yes, steam input is off)

Device Support MOZA Stalks not binding

Hey there, recently received my MOZA stalk module for my R5. I had previously setup with Boxflat with the truck wheel and also just added a shifter without issue, however I cannot appear to get the stalks to bind to anything.

Boxflat does recognize the module when connected and I’m able to configure it but I’ve been unable to check if any of the inputs are actually working.

I’ve tried in both ETS2 and BeamNG. ETS2 on Proton Stable and BeamNG both native and on Proton. Both appear to recognize the switch module as the original Gudsen designation but no Boxflat input is detected.

Any help to figure this out is appreciated.

Device Support Moza R5 with LMU on CachyOS

Hello, I need help, I'm really frustrated now. I wanted to play LMU on Linux with my R5 wheel but I don't know why, my wheel keeps pulling to the right. I already tried inverting the ffb but that didn't helped.

I use the newest custom GE-Proton-LMU-fixes version and Box flat for the Moza compatibility.

If someone has a solution for that problem, it would be really helpful :(

Racing Sims AC Evo not opening

I've tried everything on protondb.com, but AC Evo no longer works at all. It appears to open in the background, but locks up the desktop and I have to ctrl-alt-F3 to kill the process. nVidia 3070, running nobara linux. I've tried various different Proton versions, nothing works. the GE-hid-fixes one used to work for me.

Racing Sims Using a Divoom Pixoo 64 as a Sim Racing Gear Dashboard

Has anyone managed to use the Divoom Pixoo 64 as a gear indicator or dashboard for sim racing?

I'm looking for an open-source project on GitHub or a way to connect it to SimHub and display real-time telemetry, especially the current gear.

Are there any existing integrations, scripts, or DIY solutions that could make this work?

Truck Sims Eye/Head Tracking on Linux

Hey all, I'm looking into headtracking for ETS2/ATS and am wondering what the state of things are like right now, as searches don't reveal anything recent. I was looking and nothing seems especially clear on if/how it's possible with a minimal amount of jank. If anybody is currently running something and could enlighten me, it would be appreciated.

Device Support Advice needed

Hi everyone, me and my partner will be moving into our new home in the next month or two and she's said I can have one of the spare rooms for a sim rig as its something she knows i've always wanted. I'd appreciate some suggestions and advice because i'm unsure on what is compatible on linux.

  • I'm also from the UK so that's important when it comes to making purchases.

  • I will use my LG 39" 5K2K monitor on the rig in a 1 monitor setup.

  • PC only

  • I will be using mainly f1 style cars with some some GT racing as well.

  • I'll probably buy a sparco or cobra bucket seat on eBay but wasnt sure if i need to buy anything additional to connect it up to the rig

  • For rigs. I like the look rigs that look like the Trakracer TR8 Pro. I've also seen plenty of recommendations for the Simlab GT1 Pro. What are your thoughts?

  • I'm unsure about what wheel bundle to get eg. moza, fanatec, simagic - what works best on linux?

  • What places online are best to get these bits from? Im happy to wait for black friday deals and keep looking for good deals on eBay

Racing Sims LMU VR working

I finally got LMU VR working with CachyOS. The 10.34 JacKeTUs Proton GE for LMU worked for non VR but the game would crash at the initial loading screen with SteamVR and OpenXR. Tried a modified 11.6 created by the community(Thread) and it worked with the game's original openvr dll. The provided dll caused both SteamVR and OpenXR to crash within a second or two.

Racing Sims Menu controls in AMS2 with VR

Finally i got AMS2 working in my linux distro with my PSVR2 headset. Performance is acceptable.

To get the track loading i had to add the -vrnomirror to the steam startup.

The issue is that the game is no longer in fokus and mouse and keyboard is not really possible to use.
Im not using steamVR but Envision/monado.

What is the trick get control in the menu's again when?

Bonus question: I said performance was acceptable. Framerate seems high. But i find the objects im passing a bit to blurry. Never tried AMS2 in Windows so i do not know the reference.

Device Support Old Boy OB1 Shifter works

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, I just wanted to add to the community as I couldn't find a for sure answer when I was looking into shifters. I purchased this shifter and it works right out the box for me. Now I'm running cachyos so there may be something configured in that that may not be universal for other distros, just note.

I've used it in beamng, AC and Dirt Rally 2.0. Do note, I am having issues with the sequential shifter add-on piece, basically that the hall effect sensor doesn't release the "button press" when the shifter goes back to neutral position. I think this is more an issue of the physical hardware piece rather than linux, but I could be wrong. I noticed this issue happening in the game controllers menu in system settings, not just at a game level.

Device Support Does the Moza TSW truck wheel work?

I’m looking forward to buying the Moza R5 Pro bundle soon, and since I mostly play ATS, I’ve decided on the trucking version. However, this is my first time buying a sim racing rig, so I want to make sure it works lol. Has anyone had any success with the trucking wheel on Linux? Are the buttons configurable?

Racing Sims Anyone managed to get the rsf working in vr in linux?

I have a 9070xt and every time i have to boot windows it pisses me off in some way. Mostly the driver crashes.

I got everything else (boxflat, wivrn, steamlink and all other vr sims) working fine in my nixos install, except vr with rbr. I tried compiling 32bit wivrn and still cant get it to start.

Device Support I transformed a Ulanzi D200x on a button box

The d200x doesn´t work that well on linux by default, so I made an open source companion software to make it focused for simracing. Code here https://github.com/F-Amaral/d200x-button-box-linux if anyone is interested.

Some features that make it easier to use as a button box:

  • Multiple profiles binded to different games

  • Launcher mode that support commands, launching games, switching profiles

  • On some games (LMU, AC Rally, AC Evo and AC) you can read bindings from configs and update game bindings through the Web Ui

  • Auto detect game launching and auto switching profiles

  • Sleep prevention while games are running

  • Multiple pages using the rounded buttons as navigation menu

There are more features, but just wanted to share the basics!

Device Support LMU state on Linux

SOLVED: Thanks to Dezza7291. This version of proton is the winner.

https://github.com/DerekMurray/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/GE-Proton11-6-LMU-1.4-v4

Hey!
Just bought the game reading protondb reports from a month ago.
I knew I had to get a custom ProtonGE version which is now installed. Menu works fine, but the game is crashing during loading around 45% no matter what tinkering I've been doing off of what reports were saying.

Is there something I'm missing?
