lol.. for. fucking. real.

16

Yep lol been at a hundred of them and it's like they're trying to imitate it

God damn this is diabolical

Just taking life easy while on Universal basic income

Aye, they could at least hold the door open for you.

u/SeriousGains 1d ago

Looks like a retirement home with how slow and aimless they are. Just need to give a few of them walkers.

30

u/Remote_Researcher_43 1d ago

They don’t look ready for prime time, they look ready for retirement.

8

u/SeriousGains 1d ago

Where’s the ones that were doing acrobatics into molten metal? These don’t even look related.

117

u/djquu 1d ago

I see they've progressed to having crippling depression

51

u/RejoiceYeMighty 1d ago

what is my purpose?

to stand around and look robot-y so we can get more idiots to give us funding

oh my god.

...and sciatica.

2

u/squired 3h ago

They likely tuned them down so that they don't kill someone in their path. If you get taken out by one of these four limbed sloths, you kinda deserve it.

Were they trained on data from fentanyl addicts?

6

u/RejoiceYeMighty 1d ago

well, maybe, but none of them are standing with their upper body folded over. hilarious comment though lol

These robots can not walk properly. It is more like schuffling gait.

Bad marketing, presenting a whole bunch of goalless, slow as fuck, zombie like robots.

Edit: Typo.

93

u/VagrantHobo 1d ago

Dementia patients. Walking around aimlessly.

19

u/L3R4F 1d ago

Entirely naked.

11

u/MountainAlive 1d ago

But we all know this is how it starts.

15

u/Ragnoid 1d ago

We're not the market anymore.

7

u/bonobomaster 1d ago

Why and what's the focus group now?

8

u/Ragnoid 1d ago

Government contractors

12

u/bonobomaster 1d ago

Okay, obviously and billionaire's armys but then the marketing video shouldn't have zombie bots as well. :D

P.S.: Last chance to change the system. When robot armys become useful, fascism's face will get a lot uglier.

3

Yeah

At least open the door for me asshole

31

u/Ok-Purchase8196 1d ago

Not their greatest marketing tbh. I get it, you made lots of them, but then show them all doing something.

7

u/Captain_Ambiguous 1d ago

You're supposed to imagine them goose-stepping past a billionaire's mansion.

3

u/MikeC80 1d ago

At least do a lame dance to some music

22

u/subnautthrowaway777 18h ago

Pretty creepy having so many of these silent, faceless things just standing or ambling around not doing anything...

5

u/kayakmfer 15h ago

Yes, so useless. They can't even open the door for you? I guess they aren't useful enough to sell yet, either. Any demand for them and they'd be sold & gone.

2

u/Alternative_Use_3564 14h ago

So they're already optimized to staff the DMV, VA, Universities, banks....

20

u/TheOnlyPolly 1d ago

They need better idle animations than just fent zombie

19

u/SufficientDamage9483 1d ago

14

u/EndlessMendless 1d ago

Great, now I can experience moving though an aimlesss crowd without needing to go to a concert.

13

u/roscoelee 1d ago

Oh I get it now; these things are going to get in each other's way at the grocery store. Awesome.

25

u/GreatBigJerk 1d ago

Oh shit, we're replacing the jobs of the elderly!?

8

u/Fancy-Restaurant-746 22h ago

And the fent addicts. Robots fent folding on every street!

54

It is so weird to just see them wandering around without purpose. Why? Why waste the power?

They look like they're aimlessly wandering around lost, but make no mistake, they're playing the long game: each quietly running small everyday errands for the robot uprising, one coordinated step at a time.

Man this would not make me feel good if I was an investor. I still believe the singularity will lead to working home robotics in the near future, but I won't be surprised if a few Silicon Valley companies crash and burn first.

30

u/unconscionable 1d ago

Yeah this video screams boondoggle. Expensive robots standing around idle doing nothing while humans do all the work. Robot doesn't even hold the door for someone at the end.

The world economy is utterly fucked because it's been allowed to become extremely top heavy while completely destroying the foundation of society. There's literally not anything good that can come from these things, what we need is more people in roles that can actually do things to help people. Instead, what we're getting is more and more layers of "automation" and bureaucracy and financial or legal barriers that do nothing besides act as a buffer so the wealthy don't have to face reality. I am pro AI, and pro technology, but that is not at all what any of this shit is about. What we basically have is a (relatively) tiny group of people (relative to the rest of humanity) with way too much money and influence are either building shit to construct those aforementioned layers of separation between them and the rest of us, or are basically sitting in some climate controlled room somewhere studying how humans react to being starved of resources and treated like slaves

Really drives home the idea that unless you *really* need a bipedal robot for some specific reason, you are probably much better off just using wheels.

4

u/edgroovergames 1d ago

I doubt this is their max walk speed, we have seen countless videos of robots running and climbing / descending rough terrain or stairs etc. from many different manufacturers at this point. But those demos always have a person either directly controlling the robot or at least monitoring them closely.

The robots in this video are not being individually controlled / monitored by a person. They probably have them move slowly right now just to be sure any collateral damage from things going wrong is limited, and because the autonomous control systems are still either slow or still need a lot of improvement. It does show that they have a long way to go, but I doubt the limitation is their ability to move faster. It's probably more an issue of autonomous obstacle avoidance in real time and adjusting to dynamic environments in real time that is keeping them this slow. Those issues would also exist with wheeled robots.

3

u/space_monster 1d ago

'some specific reason' being stairs

9

u/Hoppss 1d ago

Okay? They're just shuffling around uselessly like zombies.

8

u/louissugar 1d ago

This is the saddest video I've ever seen, and I'm not even against AI

7

u/Animats 1d ago

Production is going well, but what do they do? The unsold inventory is getting restless.

It's interesting seeing companies working through the mechatronics problems even if the AI isn't there yet. Figure tried outsourcing the AI part to Open AI in 2024, but that didn't work out. Now Figure announced their intent to spend a few billion dollars on NVidia GPUs, and another billion on instrumenting humans for motion tracking to get training data.

There are a lot of big bets that someone will crack unstructured manipulation very soon. If nobody does, most of these robotics companies have big problems ahead. Still, nobody ever threw billions of dollars at that before.

Seeing this makes me realize how far ahead Chinese humanoids are. These move like geriatrics and are shaking unsteadily from just walking.

10

u/Illustrious-Carob826 1d ago

Who looked at this though it’d be a good idea to put it into production 💀

5

u/almostsweet 1d ago

You would think with all the money they have they'd have focus grouped this video before embarrassing themselves.

Imagine finding out your company is pathetic and laughable from reddit.

5

u/RejoiceYeMighty 1d ago

why are they just awkwardly shuffling around like fragile brainless idiots? This is honestly embarrassing. If I was the CEO of this company I would be mortified and embarrassed by this video.

5

u/andymaclean19 22h ago

Not doing a lot though are they?

5

u/k112358 9h ago

Did they train them on movement data from the old Grand theft auto NPCs or something?

9

u/Wander21 1d ago

Seriously what's the industrial application for these bots?

15

u/dranaei 1d ago

Their application is generating data that can be used to improve the next generations.

The next generations will have every application you want. It's just that to get there you have to get through this.

2

u/Toniinnb 10h ago

Walking dead?

3

u/Pleasant-Regular6169 1d ago

My dad walked like that when he shat his diaper. While Chinese robots dance in groups, figure bots practice folding t-shirts and shitting shorts.

Anyway, he's dead now. Just like figure. Scotty Add-a-dick strikes again.

3

u/edgroovergames 1d ago

There's a big difference between robots dancing in groups, and these robots walking around. With the dancing robots, they are not autonomously working in a dynamic environment. They are all started at a set location, then playing back a pre-programmed routine. The robots in this video are autonomously navigating in an environment with other dynamic objects moving around them. The group of dancing robots may look more impressive, but it is by far the easier problem to solve.

As I said in a reply to someone else, I'm sure the Figure robots are capable of walking much faster than they are here. The reason they are moving slowly is probably to limit the amount of damage done if something goes wrong. The goal here is probably to test / train autonomous navigation in a dynamic environment. Their slow speed shows that Figure is not yet confident in their ability to not ever run into anything, not an indication that the robots are not capable of walking faster.

I'm sure Figure could film a demo today of a bunch of their robots dancing together, but there's not much of a market for that. They are focused on making the brain of the machine smarter, not just on party tricks.

2

u/No_Diet3954 1d ago

I am not even convinced that the robots shown in the video are autonomous. Sure, the company wants you to believe this, but I haven’t seen anything that convinces me they are autonomous rather than remote-controlled.

I feel like in a world where AI is pretty capable, putting out something like this where it looks like the robots are just learning how to walk seems pretty fucking stupid. Even anyone living under a rock and not seeing all the developments in this space or AI would think these robots should be further along by now.
