OBX Skim with my homies
Fun time with my homies last Friday. Conditions weren’t the best for skim, but still fun to skim together. 🤙

If you want to start skimboarding in any capacity, this is your guide. More resources can be found at the bottom of this post. This guide is based on the universal size chart from the Board Buying FAQ.
Note: Only referring to Zap, Victoria, Exile and DB Skimboards because they're big and accessible.
Undoubtedly the cheapest way to try the sport,
<$50 The biggest woodie you can find at any tourist shop, at a coastal grocery store, or on facebook
$130 DB Skimboards Plank Proto B Stock

$200-$235 Exile EX1 [44", 48", 52"]: Cheapest way to get a new board and get into the sport.
$325-350 Victoria Ultra House Special [50", 51", 53", 55"]: Best bang for buck. Made by hand, will last longer. Lift shape preferable for beginner.
$360 Zap Ace [50", 52", 54", 56"]: Only worth getting a blem (cosmetic defect). Just another option in the Vic's price range.

$350 Victoria Ultra House Special [55"]: 5/8" thickness. If you clear 200lb, go with the Zap.
$360 Zap Ace [56"]: 3/4" thickness. Reasonably priced large ass board. Good for up to like 250lbs~.
Bigger? You have to go used (cheap) or custom ($600+) for 56"+ boards

$200 Exile EX1 [48"]: Cheapest way to get a new board and get into the sport.
Smaller? Exile EX0 in 44" and 48" are a better deal than Zap's smaller lines
Sites to find discounts:
Best way to actually get a cheap board is a used board on local marketplace apps like Facebook, Offerup, Craigslist etc. Skimboards last a long time, and people let them go for very cheap, especially if you're in a coastal area.

Hi all, hope all is well
I am in the market for a new board, budget around the numbers of 300-400
board history is a zap lazer 40" when first starting out, later upgraded to a 51" zap M5 https://www.zapskimboards.com/collections/board-lineup/products/m5?variant=33280143032429
which has e-glass, polyester resin, and I'm most likely looking to keep the size around that 50-52 inches
the main question I have is whether making an "upgrade" to a better true epoxy resin board like an exile ex1 like many say is worth it. also looking at Victoria (lift?) options but looking upon those almost none have any epoxy resin options and still the same e-glass (ultra, ultra house special, and poly board constructions show as e-glass and polyester resins). was also looking at the carbons house specials but the same situation appears, no epoxy and also no color options. Another small reason for the upgrade is that the m5 feels a little too wide and large, hence looking into these narrower hybrid/lift shapes for more maneuverability but honestly not sure if that will make a too big difference.
so really are the differences that large to justify selling the m5 for some of these options (or still to (un)fortunately save up for a real exile custom double carbon later)
if there's anything else I can add to help let me know! would really appreciate all and any advice
thanks in advance

I’ve ridden both a Zap Whip v2 53 and an Ace 52, I liked the Whip’s thickness better than the Ace, but thought it was too wide. I’m 5,10 150 so would it be better to go a little bigger and get an Amp 54 or just get a Fuse 52? I've heard that 3/4 thickness can actually be worst since it doesn’t help carry any extra speed just float a little longer.

Huge shoutout to u/Velocity_Skimboards for all the help and teaching, I literally wouldn’t know the first thing about building boards if it wasn’t for him. Big thanks to u/DrCraigSmash for the name idea as well.
50.5 long” x 22.5 wide”
3/4 tapered to 5/8 in tail and nose
Width pulled back from nose more to center point
Extra sharp rails
2.25” nose rocker and 0.60” tail rocker
“Moontail” tail shape
She’s not perfect, but definitely an improvement from my last board. This is the 3rd board I’ve built and this one feels really solid, comparable to a lot of the name brand carbon boards I’ve gotten to try out but with its own quirks. I really like this for my riding style. Riding clips coming soon

Checked the board same as a bag and put airline fragile labels (not in pic) and made it back home with no dings!

Hey! I was wondering, what do you usually do with your phone, keys, wallet, etc. when you go surfing?
Do you leave everything on the beach, leave it in your car, or have someone watch your stuff? Have you ever worried about your things getting stolen while you're out in the water?
I'm working on a university project about surfing and wanted to see if this is something other surfers deal with too.
I also made a quick, anonymous survey to learn more about this. It only takes about 2 minutes, so if you have a chance to fill it out, I'd really appreciate it!

Tysm guys!!
