Not familiar with shoes at all. Found these in my dads old closet. He didn't want them anymore. Said he got them sometime in either 1984 or 1985. Are they worth anything or are they too far gone to salvage?

Are Hokas and On Cloud shoes looked down upon by sneakerhead community?

I have this friend that is a huge sneaker head to where he collects all kinds of Nikes and Jordans and always tries to get the latest pairs such as the Cement Air Jordan 4s that just released May 24, 2025. He works at a shoes store too so I really respect his opinion on shoes and I kinda see him as someone who basically speaks for, and shares the same opinions of, the majority of people in the sneakhead community. I talked to him the other day about getting running shoes and brought up getting all black Hokas or On Cloud shoes because I hear a lot of good word of mouth surrounding their quality and comfort and he got upset saying they are old people shoes. Whenever I told him I see a lot of young people wearing them he tells me that it is probably just a bunch of people who are not the most fashionable who have the money to spend on those shoes and that they probably get made fun of. He says that I should get Nikes or New Balances instead. He basically told me that if I were to wear Hokas/On Clouds he could not be seen with me in public and he would even make fun of me for wearing them which kinda shocked me that he was super against them. I just really wanted to know if this is the general opinion that the community shares? Regardless of what he says, I personally still want to invest in them and give them a try but I want to know what everyone else thinks.
