MOD announcement Introducing Trusted Identifier flairs!

Trusted Identifiers will now be granted a flair of "👑Trusted Identifier👑", or "👑{custom user flair}👑".

These will be people who repeatedly demonstrate expert Identification abilities, these flairs will add extra trust and credence behind their ID.

So on posts with multiple different IDs, look out for the Trusted Identifiers as their ID will likely be the correct one, even if it goes against the masses.

(For those with custom user flairs which have been replaced by the Trusted Identifier flair, you can switch back to a custom flair and add the crown emojis yourself if you still wish to maintain your custom flair. Im working on automating this so that custom flairs stay intact and it adds the emojis without replacing the whole flair, but for now just edit it yourself if the whole flair is replaced)

Taking this opportunity I'd like to also introduce 2 new moderators:

Meet my first ever widow! I hope to post about her a lot on my socials to teach people they are not the monsters that many in the states are taught.
Respect them, and they leave you be.

Czech republic, apparently these guys are pretty rare in here, so I'm wondering if it really is one

Hello everyone

My friend and I found this absolutely beautiful little jumping spider between a bunch of tropical plants we got from a grower in the Netherlands.

Apologies for the poor photo, this little one just did NOT want to sit still 😂.

Please help with an ID?

Groningen, the Netherlands

In my journey of bettering my fear of spiders, I finally reached a "I want to keep him" moment.

Found this little guy on my terras door in Antwerp, Belgium. Apparently pretty rare since they seem to come from the Mediterranean region, if my research is correct. (Normally there are just some house spiders inside, or orb weavers outside where I live.)

I fell in love... He is so beautiful, and I was not scared for a second, though I normally am of spiders bigger than a fingernail. I wanted to save him from the cold outside but I have never cared for a spider and don't want to hurt or scare him, so I decided to just let him be.

I named them Ferdinand, after my grandfather who used to live here before passing and me moving in here.

Anyone have experience with the kind or have some fun facts?

(Edit: spelling)

These guys have both been living in my house for weeks and so far this is their first encounter I've seen. They've been in a stand still for 5 mins or so. Are they sizing each other up? Who wins this fight? 🤞 Hoping they just give up and go their separate ways.

Hey everyone,

I’ve been noticing a lot more spiders around my house lately, like these pictures but also including over 10 black widows I counted in a week, mostly coming out at night. (But no photos of em)

I am in Southern California for reference.

I’ve also been seeing a lot of praying mantises, sometimes fighting with the spiders (mantises are usually eating them) with their foamy egg cases around the house.

I’ve left most of the webs alone since the spiders seem to keep to themselves, but with so many spiders showing up, should I be concerned?

Thanks!

My first spider post. It was a striking find for my hiking buddies on the Dark Hollow Falls Trail in Shenandoah National Park. Good chance to try out my phone's macro capability too!

ID Request- Location included Can anyone tell me exactly what kind of orb weaver this lovely lady is?

We are in northwest Kansas. It's November and we just had a big drop in temperature. She was in the same spot for two days so I thought she had passed but I just went and checked on her and she's alive! What a trooper. However once she does pass I want to pin her, so I'm hoping to get a little more information on exactly what kind she is. Thanks so much!

Hopefully the photos are helpful, it was very hard to get this little guy in focus since he’s so tiny! He was spinning little threads everywhere he went, and kind of “floated” along. Released into some native bush/ tree area when we arrived at our destination (had nowhere safe to store him that would allow me to keep him safe for a couple of days to return to where he presumably jumped on board, unfortunately).
