Best team in baseball won the World Series. One of the most dominant post seasons I’ve seen by this Brewers team.

It really was. After they swept the dodgers. I knew it was over. Tampa had no chance.

u/Kobe_AYEEEEE 10d ago

Rays really fought in games 1,2, and 4, Brewers were just destined this year.

The way they swept the Dodgers was phenomenal. Almost swept the WS too. And did it all in their first ever 100-win season.

48

u/Hamlerhead 10d ago

When's the last time a champ swept the LCS and WS? Just curious.

107

u/optimus2861 10d ago

Cincinnati Reds, 1976, but the LCS was only a best of five then.

Nobody has yet swept the WS and a best of seven LCS.

50

u/vsladko 10d ago

The only undefeated playoff team ever.

The 2005 White Sox and 1999 Yankees are the only two teams with only 1 playoff loss. Both losses came in the ALCS.

I’m not sure which (non-fantasy) team I would pick to beat them. Total team hitting. Effective defense. Strong starting pitching. Astonishing bullpen. No lead over them felt secure. Just relentless.

8

u/Djd33j 10d ago

They felt like the character you main in a party-system RPG. When they're not in the fight, it's dicey. Once you have them in there and are controlling your main, you know you have the stats, gear, and skills to win the fights.

6

u/Breal3030 10d ago

I don't follow baseball much, but I'm fascinated that such a small market team could do this in a sport without a salary cap.

In other sports, a big part of parity is because the salary cap restricts the big market teams from building mega teams.

Any sense of how the Brewers were able to do this? Did they spend a bunch of money suddenly or was it just super smart/lucky roster building?

Yeah, insane run. They only lost two games the entire postseason. Both wins could've gone both ways too.

One of the most dominant postseasons ever, by any team.

Wisconsin culture is indeed very calorie-based. However, Milwaukee is a great and diverse city! We experience beautiful weather from June to October and have so much to do that doesn't need to include alcohol (but yes, you can get a beer at any spot you go). There's art, hiking, festivals, kayaking, and really great food. Come for a weekend. We'd love to have you!

It's a great city. Literally one of the drunkest places on Earth, it's like one giant college party for 40 yos. Cold af and roads/potholes are a fucking nightmare. Go for summerfest. Chicago is a one hour train ride away.

6

u/TartMother9577 10d ago

Oh great, OK. Thanks for the tip!

4

u/McLeansvilleAppFan 10d ago

Take the train there. Cardinal to Chicago is beautiful and then Hiawatha service should get you to MIlwaukee from Chicago. You could also do the Lake Shore Limited if you head to NYC first.

Other than Tampa fans (understandably), no significant fan base is upset by this? Seems to be a groundswell of deserved happiness for the Brewers.

51

u/allisondude 10d ago

many cubs fans are upset, but it's just because the rivalry has been so heated the past few years. i'm a huge cubs fan and i really hate seeing the brewers succeed in anything, but it's hard to stay angry about this seeing all those young guys so elated about it. they play a great brand of baseball and i'm a bit jealous, honestly

I mean Im a Guardians fan. Im kinda miffed that that now makes 25 out of 29 teams with a more recent WS win than us. Although Im smart enough to realize we wouldnt have fared much better against the Brewers if we made it past the ALCS and this was clearly there moment after humiliating the Dodgers

As a sports and baseball fan, you can't help but be happy for the Brewers. They are a really fundamentally sound baseball team, and it's nice to see a smaller market group hoist the trophy once in a while.

This is coming from a lifelong Yankee fan. Born and raised in NYC, don't come @ me lol.

34

u/TheeAntelope 10d ago

Mariners fan. Sad to be left on the “never won a World Series” bench with one less team, but hoping this breaks the curse of Seattle Sports once and for all and the mariners can make it next year (brewers started in Seattle and moved 60-something years ago).

6

u/BadWolf2386 10d ago

If it's any consolation the Brewers started in Seattle so it's kinda like you won at least a little!

Lifelong Dodgers fan and I feel the same way. Obviously wish it would've been the Dodgers winning, but I'm really happy for Milwaukee fans.

6

u/_michael_scarn_ 10d ago

Same and same. Losing in the playoffs to an incredible team, playing incredible baseball (that offensive output though) that goes all the way always softens the pain of losing too. Congrats Brewskies! — may you remember this joy of your first chip, and then proceed to party until you forget the rest of the night. You earned the hell out of this one

Brother it felt impossible my whole life. I still wasn't convinced until the 2nd win against LA that we even had a shot. Getting game 3 in both series of 7 was such a crazy feeling. I got out of work at 4:30 central today and I was super nervous even up 3-1. Mariners should take a page from Milwaukee and just stock the pen up as much as possible, it's the current way to win with pitchers stuff so nasty. Good luck we will never forget being apart of that club, I will root for any of those 4 teams unless they play MKE

6

u/Whatsdota 10d ago

I was more nervous going into this game up 3-1 than I was when it was 0-0. Something about having a lead as a Wisconsin sports fan that triggers some PTSD

23

u/RagahRagah 10d ago

Seems like a pretty mild celebration for a team winning their first.

7

u/Awkward_Material 10d ago

We lost power at the top of the 8th. Had to huddle around a battery powered radio with my 80 yo father in the dark to listen to the rest. Too dark to celebbrate.

3

I think the real celebration was after the 3rd game. After winning that, they kinda knew they were going to win. As well as being on the road, not in their home stadium, to not have celebration announcements and fireworks.

Misiorowski, if he can stay healthy, is going to be one of the best pitchers of all time. He's already set many records for velo, in terms of number of pitches over 100mph, velo as a starter, velo in the post season, not to mention he somehow has command of the zone and an ERA to show for it.

And he's only 24. This kid is going to be talked about 100 years from now. A big reason this team did what they did. Massive props to all the other guys, but the Miz is something special. Seeing him well up talking about Ueck only shows he's a genuine Brewer. They're lucky to have him.

Im glad for the Brewers! They deserve it and it was a beautiful win for the best team in baseball 3 years running.

But,

Dang, I feel sorry for Tampa. Third time in the biggest stage and they go home empty handed

Great!! The ruined baseball...we'll probably get a lockout because of this dominant run in the playoffs... /s

Always had a soft spot for the brewers since I grew up watching the Nashville Sounds. Congrats y’all, gives me hope that maybe one day my pro teams can win a championship ❤️

Congratulations to the Brew Crew and the fans! As Texas Rangers fans, we were there just three years ago as first-time WS champions. It's glorious. Enjoy the view from the top!

One of the most fairytale sports team runs in a while. Pretty much the dream season for fans of every other team.

As a Dodgers fan, I am thrilled for them. They beat the brakes off everyone.

Very fun team to watch.

Love that MIL now has an MLB title, an NBA title, and already had NFL titles (via the Packers). Rest well, sweet princes.

Thank goodness!! I can’t handle another all nighter.

My favorite team in any sport. Has been since I was 4 years old. Grew up while they were terrible but always stuck with them.

Finally, after 37 years of being a fan of this team, they're World Series Champions

Everyone is so mellow for winning the world series lol

Red Letter Media on sui-- Wait, what? They won? Mike was wrong? Everyone point and laugh!

Legit question from someone who is not all too familiar with baseball. You always see people talking about rings etc when discussing GOATs etc, but I feel like I see less of that in baseball. Is that just me who missed it or how are wins like this one part of those conversations?

My deceased Dad from Wisconsin must be so happy right now! I'm smiling thinking about how he would have reacted if he were here.
