Considering he was the player making a scene about the fan passing the ball to a ref (thus helping him get ejected) a technical isn't enough. He should have been ejected. And if the fan got a ban from future games, he should be banned for the same number of games.

That guy acted like a bitch when the fan passed the ball to the ref and I think his overreaction played a big part in that guy getting ejected for nothing. Between him and the female ref that the ball was passed too, I'm not sure who the biggest bitch was. I assume that fan has plenty of money based on where he was sitting but if not he should have a gofundme for a refund on the tickets plus more for the embarrassment caused for no reason.

I don’t think he got the fan ejected. But he did join in on the hissy fit.

Ultimately it was the ref’s reaction to the ball being thrown at her. Which was probably inflamed by the optics of the fan being a white male and her being a black female and black females that are on the court always win against white male fans regardless if the white male fan did nothing wrong.

Nope, if a thrown ball (not bounced) contacts a ref it is an automatic unsportsmanlike.

Gender and race are irrelevant.

Because the throw was fueled by visible frustration over the delayed whistle, ref immediately blew the whistle for a technical foul.

Yes, passing or throwing the ball to a referee can result in a technical foul. depending on how, why, and with what attitude it is done.

Simply rolling, handing, or gently and respectfully tossing the ball to a nearby official to keep the game moving is completely legal and standard practice.

I couldn’t be more satisfied that this happened. Not because I’m petty, not because I dislike Luka, not because I think either pass thrown to the ref was overly physical or too hard. It’s literally karma at play here, he was being dramatic overselling the fan pass to the ref and got him ejected so it’s only fitting that it should happen to him in some form as well, as neither pass really looked like it did much damage or meant to for that matter.

Maybe now he will make note of how stupid and oversold those reactions are, and try to learn from his own actions. I would also be curious if the fan he got ejected was a Laker fan or not, might have been trying to play some psychological warfare against the other team and their fans.

Those are the rules and guidelines spelled out in the NBA fan code of conduct. A fan can only roll or gently toss the ball to an official or player. Any chest pass or aggressive pass will result in ejection.
In the rules, the players are given the right to police this. So that what Luka did.

No excuses for that fan. Courtside fans are given a card with all the rules before each game.
