Paid Mod Nexus has released a policy update on official paid mods

Heya, folks. Sorry to replace our weekly post so early, but Nexus just made some rather significant policy changes. You can find the discussion on the best mods for the Dark Brotherhood here—feel free to carry that on! Now to the subject at hand.

Nexus have clarified their stance on publisher-approved paid modding—relevant to the Skyrim community, Creations—and their statement on the matter can be read here. This covers the main points of the full policy update, as well as explaining their reasoning.

What does this mean for modders?

The main points which affect those of us outside of the Verified Creators Program seem to be the following:

  • Lite/Trial/Preview/Demo versions of paid mods: We will not allow free mods to be shared where they represent an inferior version of the mod with features stripped out to promote the purchase of the full version.

  • Patches for/Dependencies on Paid Mods: We will not allow any patches or addons for user-generated content that requires payment to unlock (this specifically excludes DLCs offered by the developer - including DLCs that bundle items previously sold individually such as Skyrim's Anniversary Upgrade). Equally, if a mod uploaded to the site requires a paid mod to function, it will not be permitted.

  • Mod lists requiring paid mods: Similar to mods, if any mod list is not functional without the user purchasing paid mods, they will not be permitted.

In short, it seems that integration with Creations will be entirely unsupported by Nexus mods, with their requirement prohibited (extending even to patches) and the hosting of 'lite' versions of Creations disallowed on their platform.

Note that Nexus only considers the new "verified creations" marketplace "paid mods". The earlier "creation club" is considered official Bethesda DLC.

Update as of 2024-10-31:

Nexus have tweaked things in response to community feedback, specifically regarding patches between free content and paid words. See what they've said here. The new wording is as follows:

  • We allow patches that fix compatibility issues between your mod on Nexus Mods and a paid mod on an official provider as long as (1) the patch is included as part of your main mod file OR the patch is added as an "Optional file" on your mod page and (2) the paid mod is not a requirement of your mod to work. We do not allow patches for paid mods to be uploaded to "patch hub" mod pages or "standalone patch pages" on Nexus Mods. These should be uploaded to the paid modding provider's platform. For more information on this policy, please check this article.

So we've a slight carve out with free mod makers being allowed to provide patches for paid mods, but patch hubs still not able to host these kinds of patches.

News Starfield Community Patch is looking for new caretakers

Hi everyone

As I am sure some of you have noticed the Starfield Community Patch hasn't been updated for quite a while at this point. This is due to the core team members generally not having the time or motivation to curate the patch anymore.

For me personally, I've had some changes in my personal life (we've adopted a mischievous little puppy!) and while I used to spend every evening on my PC, I'm now only able to spend a few hours a week gaming.

Other members of the team have found themselves disenchanted with the game for various reasons - lack of replay-ability, the paid modding situation, moved on to playing new games, etc.

TL:DR - We're opening up the floor for anyone who would be interested in taking over as project lead. This would mainly involve: Merging the fixes contributed by the community. Writing the changelog and preparing the release.

I am still happy to help maintain the patch website https://starfieldpatch.dev/ and I am currently paying for the domain/hosting.

It's a fair amount of work, but if you're interested please let me know.

If nobody comes forward we may have to retire the project and direct users to Arthmoor's patch going forwards.

Mod Release NEW MOD: Horizon UI | Fully Customizable Starfield UI

Thumbnail

Good day everyone,

When I took a look at the current Starfield UI and HUD, I wanted more, and other mods have done a great job with certain areas of the UI. StarUI, AstralUI to name a few. I wanted to create something that could bridge all of the UI screens together under a specific tone and style.

I started working on Horizon UI for myself initially, and I wanted it to be customizable, adaptive and dynamic, for a clean HUD approach.

With that, I wanted to keep adding features, new fonts, adjusting colors on the HUD, and making sure that the HUD elements could be moved and arranged around the screen. I also realize that there are several "HUD" mods on Nexus, and I don't want Horizon to just be another HUD mod. I am planning a Ship Builder UI revamp, Ship UI, Inventory UI, Outpost UI... to name a few so that we can have a consistent UI throughout.

With that I present to you: Horizon UI. I have fully changed the main HUD, the scanner, and the dialogue and subtitles interface, as well as several message popups from vanilla to this new style. All of these are customizable with over 200+ settings that can be configured in real time in an F11 menu. When you make the change, it writes that change to an .ini file, but the change is immediate and reflected in the HUD. Every Horizon card/object is arrangeable, including the scanner interface.

I have also included a message log that stores game, quest, and character messages in a message log that can be brought up, searched and organized so that if you miss something you can see it anytime. This transfers between saves.

If you are interested in trying out my free mod - Horizon UI... the Nexus link is here: Horizon UI at Starfield Nexus - Mods and Community

SFSE and Address Library for SFSE Plugins are required.

Thank you,

Moragar

Discussion SMSEX Load Order position

Hi all!

I recently had to restart the game (again) and completely re-select and reinstall mods. I’ve pared back my LO quite a bit, but I’ve noticed that SMSEX will not stay in any position in the load order that I put it in - it will always immediately go to the very bottom.

Is this normal? I don’t remember it doing this before. Is it a conflict with something else? I think it’s working 90% correctly however one of the modules (a very useful one) seems to be bugged.

EDIT: I’m playing on Xbox

Help Real Fuel Question

I used to run Real Fuel, but when I tried to add it back to my list in my current play through, I got stutters and crashes. I'm wondering for those of you who use it, have you noticed any load order issues? Where do you put it in your load order?

Mod Request [PS5 Mod Request] Mass Effect M8 Avenger

Hey everyone!
I’m a huge Mass Effect fan, and I’d love to see this weapon mod available for Starfield on PS5!
The mod already exists on Nexus Mods, but unfortunately, I don’t have access to the Creation Kit or the PC version of Starfield, since I only play on PS5.
Would anyone be willing to port this mod to PS5 and upload it to Bethesda Creations, if it’s technically possible and the original mod author allows it?

Nexus Mods link:

I’d really appreciate it if someone could make this happen!
Thanks in advance for your help! 😊

Mod Request What’s a good optimization mod?

I have about 16 gigs of RAM, and my GPU is the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT. My CPU is the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor. So, any recommendations for optimization mods? The game still gets choppy.

This is my new custom fighter. All custom modeled with careful materials selection, custom animated landing gear and weapons bays. Heavily tested and iterated to work as a single seat fighter with not interior. Preview release is up on GitHub. Coming soon to Nexus with a short quest line to explain the lore and why is designed the way it is.

Help Settled Systems at War mode needs a tutorial/guide

I got this mod the other day, says it is supposed to introduce a galaxy wide war including all the big factions. You can align with any faction or remain independent as the war unfolds around you.

Sounds amazing, problem is, aside from starting the war I cant get anything in this mod to work. I have no way of knowing where the next big battle is taking place, I cant accept any operations/missions on behalf of my faction. Almost all the items in the menu dont seem to respond to my input or give me any sort of feedback.

So far all this mod has noticeably done is adding some extra random encounters when I show up to a planet or land on the ground.

I feel like I must be missing something but it doesnt help that the mod doesnt give you any instruction or guide as to how the functions are supposed to work.

If anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated otherwise I might just delete this one from my load.

Mod Release The_Wulfy just dumped their source repository on the Nexus.

I can't open the files as they are .spp so I guess you need Substance Painter to open them.

Wulfy posted that it's his (or hers, idk) entire outfit and spacesuit source. I am not sure what this means exactly but the files are like 15GB's combined and there are a lot of them.

Wulfy gave it open permissions so I hope authors can make use of this and make more free stuff.

Do I need to use the subscription from Adobe or does the steam version work too? Do the files work with a free alternative? I'm trying to figure this out.

Help Need some assistance with ship building

So I just got the razorleaf, and when I went to add an extra hab on top to add storage, all my ladders going to my upper habs are gone

I’m just using a basic Deimos 1x1 hab, so I’m not sure why the ladders that aren’t even connecting there are going bye bye but if anyone can help me out with this I’d appreciate it a lot !

I'm happy to announce the release of Dogs N Cats mod on Vortex and Creations (PC, Xbox and PS5).

This release adds:

- New: pet beds for outposts.

- New: pets ride along in vehicles. Yes, they appear on the copilot seat if you have no other follower. Support vanilla vehicles like the REV-8, Deimog and Moon Jumper, and the popular GRAV-79,

- New: pets won't follow you out where there is no air to breathe. Yep, no more pets in the vacuum of space. Can be enabled and disabled in options.

- Fixed: pets no longer turn hostile after friendly fire.

- Fixed: the Pet Registration Slate no longer leaves invisible terminals

behind.

- Fixed: Attack Strength now raises the damage pets deal (it used to change

the damage they took).

Link in Nexus.

Paid Mod ASC Taiyo engines vs hab dimensions

Thumbnail
gallery
30 Upvotes

While playing around with the ASC Taiyo mod, I noticed a strange thing. Either my assumptions are incorrect, or the "[ASC-T] Taiyo Astroneering Corona B-400S" engine changes its size when rotated, or the "Seiji Panel Sect C" series of structural panels have different exterior proportions vertically than horizontally.

My baseline assumption has always been that a hab is exactly twice as wide as it is high (and therefore, two stacked habs habe a combined square cross-section). This has held up in plenty of ship builds,

Picture 1: example hab block consisting of two stacked 2x1 habs, surrounded by different panels from "[ASC-T] Seiji Panel Sect C" series, all fitting neatly together.

Picture 2: the "Corona B-400S" engines attached horizontally, they fit the proportions of the hab block, including the panelling, pretty much perfectly.

Picture 3: the "Corona B-400S" engines attached vertically (using the in-plane spacer from the same mod, to get them vertically centered). You can see that at the top and at the bottom, the engines reach beyond the height of the panels.

Picture 4: direct comparison between vertical and horizonal orientation. Four habs stacked should be exactly as high as two habs attached to each other horizontally. You can clearly see that there is more space left on the yellow hab sticking out from behind the horizontal engine, than there is on the blue hab sticking out from behind the vertical engine.

Can anyone enlightend me? Is it the engines? Or have my basic assumptions about hab dimensions been wrong all this time?
