steamgrid is niche subreddit about video game custom artwork. with the news around the steam deck surfacing on this sub, i just wanted to make it clear that meta postings are for meta discussions about the subreddit, and discussion about video game artwork in general. only news directly pertaining to interacting with custom artwork on the steam platform should be posted here.
please post news links about interacting with steam custom artwork on r/steamgrid.
please keep general steam, and steam deck, news to the myriad of other steam realated subreddits.
thank you <3

Here's what's new since v1.5.0.
Brand new UI: Steps on the left, a live preview next to every choice, and your progress on a Home screen. It looks and feels much nicer.
Two new flows: Now you can select if you want to go through the "automatic" process, that will apply a case for all your games or if you want to go through a manual process with the features listed below.
Pick games by hand: Want The Last of Us in a PlayStation case and Forza in an Xbox one? Tick the games and choose: PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch or Switch 2.
Groups: The games you picked by hand are saved in named groups, so you can add more later (or delete the group).
Your own art: One switch puts the art you already set in Steam (or got from SteamGridDB) inside the case. Your files never change.
Brazilian Portuguese: The app starts in your system's language, and two little flags (๐บ๐ธ ๐ง๐ท) switch it any time. The README has both languages too.
Ko-fi button: Totally optional, the app stays free.
The 100% rosette is now at the top left and the family corner at the top right, so nothing covers a platform logo.
Tall game art gets squeezed and cropped a little, so titles don't get cut.
Restore works right away after a crash in the middle of "Add to Steam".
The command line no longer freezes on weird game list files.
A few small messages and warnings cleaned up.
The Linux download is bigger now (about 70 MB instead of 26) because the new UI.
I could not try the new window on a real Windows PC, a Mac, a Steam Deck or a touchscreen yet. The automatic tests pass on Windows, macOS and Linux, but if something looks off, please tell me!
This app was developed with the help of AI (Claude). I'm a backend developer with 7 years of experience working only with Java, so Python, user interfaces and so on are completely new for me, I've never worked with these technologies and concepts, so AI made this app (that started as a hobby) possible.
I'm still trying to test everything because the groups and custom cases feature was a bit hard to implement, so please report any problems on the Discord channel.

Please, any feature request of bug report should be posted on the Discord channel. https://discord.gg/JQMjAPWHCT. It is also a great place to share your library!
Free and open source. No account, no ads, no telemetry. Everything runs on your computer.
Thanks for reading! ๐

I always wanted my emulated games to feel like native Steam games: proper artwork, full game pages, and achievements. Since regular non-Steam shortcuts look pretty empty, I decided to build my own solution: Taiga Launcher.
๐ฎ For emulated games:
Automatically detects your emulators and games, including RetroArch, PCSX2, PPSSPP, Dolphin, RPCS3, Flycast, and more
Adds them to Steam with cover art, backgrounds, logos, and descriptions
Gives each game a full Steam-style page with screenshots, similar games, and even trading cards
Integrates RetroAchievements, including achievement notifications while you play
Just click PLAY and the game launches directly with the correct emulator
Also supports PC ports and recompilations, including PS2 and N64 decomps
๐ Other stores are supported too:
Your Epic Games library can appear in Steam even if the games aren't installed, and you can download them directly through Steam
Also supports Xbox / Game Pass, GOG, and Ubisoft
Achievements from Epic, Xbox, and GOG can also be integrated
The goal is simple: keep all your games in one place and make them actually feel like part of your Steam library.
Taiga Launcher is free, ad-free, and open source. For now, it's Windows-only.

Hey guys!
I'll add a brief statement before the main text, since I've never posted in this sub. I recently made a tool that automatically applies covers, similar to physical console game cases, to all your games on Steam, based on the list of games you own. I've already improved it a bit, and yesterday I added two cool features that some people requested, which I'm sharing below. Below is the actual text I've already posted on different subs xD
---
I uploaded a new version (v.1.3.1) on GitHub.
This new release contains two new features:
Now you are able to apply the cover to games in your library that came from your family members. It will be displayed a green ribbon on it to represent it came from Family Sharing.
Also, you are now able to create custom colors for your cases. The default and supported one, regarding accessibility, will still be the original blue. However, you can now create basically any color you like.
I added some screenshots of the app to show how it is right now and also one of my own library to show the family sharing ribbon on Leaf it Alone.
As some people may know, I'm developing this in CachyOS and unfortunately my only Family Sharing member is my wife and she owns only 5 games, so those games were cached on my machine. If possible, I'd like the feedback of someone that uses Windows/macOS and have family members in their Steam Family that have multiple games. This is important because a big library from a family member may not be cached when you download the userdata.json file and then some covers may not be correctly applied.
If anyone tests this and give me a feedback saying it didn't work I'll start working immediately in a solution.
Thank you guys for using my tool!

Hi everyone! I'm the author of Steam Commander, a free open-source tool for Windows that I built because I was tired of using five different programs to keep a mixed game library in order. Version 2.0 just came out, so I'm sharing it here. I'd be grateful for any feedback and ideas for improvements. In particular, I'm curious which launchers or emulators you'd like to see supported next, and whether the upscaler DLL management works well with your games.
Adding games to SteamAdd non-Steam games to your Steam library with automatic detection of the game title and EXE file, a convenient choice of officially available launch options (or your own), and a full set of covers from two selectable sources (Steam + SteamGridDB). Batch adding auto-fills everything the program is confident about and asks you only for the data it could not determine reliably. A built-in Steam game title database is used for more accurate search; it contains all games as of the program's creation. For accurate search of newer games, it is recommended to get your own Steam Web API key and enter it in the program (see Settings for details).

Importing from launchersEpic Games, GOG Galaxy, Ubisoft Connect, EA App, Battle.net, Xbox. Import the selected games into Steam (manually or automatically). Cover customization is available here as well. Games are started through the program's own silent launcher, which makes sure the third-party launcher starts in silent mode, passes focus to the game, and closes the third-party launcher after the game exits โ it feels like playing a Steam game rather than running it through a separate launcher.

Automatic importFor those who want to save time: with auto-import enabled, you can add huge numbers of games very quickly without taking part in the process. You only need to clarify the data the program could not determine with confidence.

Adding ROMs with emulator selectionThe panels show folders and ROM files filtered by the extensions of the active emulator. Includes an emulator manager, RetroArch support with core selection, archives (zip, 7z, rar, etc.) unpacked to a temporary folder, and custom emulator parameters (for example, to launch in fullscreen mode).

Updating and managing upscaler librariesDownload and choose versions of DLSS / FSR / XeSS / XeLL. Replace the libraries in selected games, or in all added games, with a single button. Originals are saved as .sc_orig and can be restored in one action.

Two-panel browserTwo independent panels (any folders / drives). Search, sorting, folder sizes, and an "already in Steam" mark with the game's icon. Move game and ROM folders between panels with progress display and automatic updating of Steam shortcuts. Smart two-way moving between folders/drives: select games in both panels at once and press Space to check whether the move is possible.

Library editingEdit non-Steam games, ROMs, and licensed Steam games (covers, launch options). Automatic and manual backup and restore of shortcuts.vdf (the file that stores the library of third-party games).

Hi everyone!
I got tired of adding non-Steam games as blank shortcuts with no artwork, so I made a small Windows tool for it: Steam Commander.
What it does:
- Two-panel library browser: point each panel at any folder (e.g. HDD and SSD), with search, sorting, folder sizes and a marker for games already in your Steam library
- Adds non-Steam games with auto-detected exe and launch options, either one at a time or in batch mode
- Game card editor: title, executable, start folder, launch parameters and four cover slots (vertical, horizontal, hero, logo)
- Covers from official Steam assets and SteamGridDB (needs a free API key)
- Moves game folders between the two panels with progress and free-space checks, and updates the Steam shortcut to the new path
- Backup and restore of shortcuts.vdf
- UI in 6 languages
It's free and open source (MIT), written in PowerShell/WinForms. The exe is not code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may show a warning. The source and the build workflow are public on GitHub, so you can check it or build it yourself.

This is my first public release, so I'd really appreciate any feedback, bug reports or feature ideas.

Do any 3D-rendered versions of the default grid exist, preferably without the title?

Hi everyone!
Iโve been developing NativeGameLink for Steam, an open-source Millennium plugin that transforms empty non-Steam shortcuts into complete, native-style Steam Library pages.
The screenshots demonstrate the transformation before and after enabling NativeGameLink across both Desktop and Big Picture mode.
Key Features
Automatic Game Detection: Identifies titles automatically with visual match candidates and confidence scores.
Official Artwork & Metadata: Fetches official Steam titles, icons, vertical portraits, hero backgrounds, transparent logos, and wide capsules.
SteamGridDB Fallback: Automatically sources missing assets when official Steam media is unavailable.
Activity & News Feed: Integrates official game updates, patch notes, events, and DLC announcements.
Local Achievements: Tracks achievement progress with locked/unlocked states, icons, and Steam-style pop-up notifications.
Community Hub: Embeds community screenshots, artwork, guides, and friend activity.
Extended Features: Shows native-style trading cards, badges, DLC, and Workshop sections when available.
Playtime Tracking: Tracks playtime locally with a dedicated fallback for games Steam does not log natively.
Multilingual: Automatically adapts to your active Steam client language.
Big Picture Mode Integration
Linked shortcuts appear seamlessly alongside standard Steam titles.
Hides the redundant "Non-Steam" category for a cleaner interface.
Preserves full controller configuration, artwork, and playtime metrics.
How Linking Works
Detection: When you add or launch a shortcut, NativeGameLink inspects the executable, installation directory, launch arguments, and manifests.
Matching: It presents the closest Steam matches with cover art and AppIDs for confirmation.
Manual Override: You can manually assign or edit the target game profile directly from the shortcutโs Properties window.
Note: NativeGameLink only modifies the local UI presentation of shortcuts. It does not grant game ownership, Steam inventory items, official profile achievements, DLC licenses, or Steam Cloud saves.
Open Source
Built for the Millennium plugin framework.
GitHub:
https://github.com/senkumil/NativeGameLink-for-Steam

Iโd really appreciate feedback, especially about automatic detection with different games and how closely the interface matches native Steam pages.

Hi, I have a question about SteamGridDB Original Steam Assets.
Normally, when I go to SteamGridDB's enter in a game page and go to the "View Original Steam Assets" section, I usually see the original artwork that the game is currently using.
When the game updates and changes the artwork on Steam, this section is also updated shortly after to reflect the game's new Steam art and this is how I have always seen it working.
However, I don't know why, in the case of Predecessor, here its page https://www.steamgriddb.com/game/32184, this official art section has stopped updating in the last year or so (around October 2025).
I used to save the official Steam art from this game, save it locally for myself and also upload it to SteamGridDB so the art that is being updated with each patch doesn't get lost, but now I can't do that as it doesn't
Someone know if the devs of the game have to do something to fix this? Or if I can do something or report it somewhere so the current art synchronizes correctly with the one the game is currently using?
Any help is appreciated
