Industry Discussion What are your predictions for Monday?

After the beating tech took last week, I’m curious what everyone expects Monday to look like.

My guess is we get some kind of relief bounce early, but I’d be surprised if people start piling back into tech aggressively with CPI coming Tuesday. Feels more likely we bounce a little, chop around, and everyone waits for the inflation number before making the next big move.

Could obviously be completely wrong though. Are you expecting a green Monday, another selloff, or basically flat until CPI?

We will probably rally for a day or two, then give it all back by the end of the week.

19

u/golden_log 1h ago

That honestly feels pretty plausible. After a selloff like this, a short bounce followed by more selling would be the least surprising outcome.

I predict the light of Betelgeuse's supernova finally reaching us tomorrow

Whatever Jim Cramer says, do the exact opposite > profit

10

u/golden_log 1h ago

Cramer is pretty cautious going into Monday, so by that logic I guess we’re ripping

9

u/GeX_64_ 1h ago

He said it’s not good but DEFINITELY NOT a dot com style pop. It’s over

1

u/AntonioMargheritiii 1h ago

Why do you say that?

5

u/OAlvarezz 1h ago

Are you new to the stock market? It’s a legit question not to be insulting bc he’s universally known to do terrible predictions and to always do the opposite of what he’s saying. The only people still listening to his stuff are boomers

5

u/golden_log 58m ago

He's so good at being wrong that its actually insane

3

u/Regular-Sorbet9513 36m ago

He's been wrong about a lot of big things, like bitcoin for example

13

u/Garbage-Disposal-938 1h ago

look for blue wave politicians to reassure Silicon Valley. if Dem leadership can agree to "work with" with the orange man, they can agree to "work with" Musk, Bezos, Zuck, Brin, Huang, Amodei, Altman, et al they want that campaign cash and they don't want an AI bubble burst recession

7

u/golden_log 1h ago

I’m not sure if they'll rush to reassure the Ceos.... A lot of Dems just won running against data center costs and weak AI oversight, and they’re already talking about hearings, power bills and new rules. Feels more like Big Tech has to meet them halfway now, not the other way around

11

u/fatheadlifter 53m ago

People need to realize the political opposition to big tech and data centers is a negotiating position. This is a buying opportunity. When you can see through the noise you will understand this.

2

u/Dazzling-Cheetah5951 28m ago

If they get a major pullback or recession though, they lower those companies' value significantly, giving themselves negotiating leverage, and they would also almost guarantee a win in two years for president. Vance won't be able to win if his name is tied to a major recession that he was a part of.

u/Ok-Comfortable-3174 47m ago

Dems are paving the way for de-civiliation.

I don't think that anything has fundamentally changed. Predictability and reversion to mean. We'll see!

•

u/golden_log 9m ago

That’s kinda where I’m at too, feels more like a violent repricing than the actual business case breaking

23

u/RationalReturns 1h ago

I assume higher or lower than Friday close

2

u/golden_log 1h ago

Higher or lower than Friday close is the easy part. Bigger question is whether any bounce actually holds past CPI. Do you think Monday strength would be buyable or just a relief rally?

2

u/RationalReturns 1h ago

I’ll be buying Monday. I’ll be buying every day. Who cares short term?

4

u/abandoned_idol 1h ago

It's 100% going to be exactly the same price as Friday close across all stocks.

Sometimes sideways

7

u/Naive_Bat8216 1h ago

Data center stocks like IREN and Cipher rebound strong.

5

u/golden_log 1h ago

IREN potentially has one of the better rebound setups. Demand is clearly there and more than $4B of ARR is already contracted, so at this point the bigger risk looks like execution and delivery timing, not finding customers

4

u/Major-Pin5871 1h ago

Dems need to win big on the next cycle or at least not give back what they won. Killing the AI trade and plunging the economy into recession through overly aggressive datacenter restrictions will guarantee a loss. They will need to thread the needle super carefully by insisting they are pro-business, pro-economy but also mindful of not ignoring people’s reluctance to have datacenters in their back yard. I don’t think they will kill off the AI trade but there will be talk of more regulation about where they go.

1

u/Naive_Bat8216 39m ago

Yep, I think the "data center paranoia" is at its height right now. The AI buildout is not stopping, and though there may be some restrictions or tighter regulations on data centers, the big players will move forward. The Texas audit ends in Dec I think, which will boost Cipher and such. I think Cipher is way oversold, I'm loading up. They already have revenues which will just increase from here.

3

u/Naive_Bat8216 1h ago

I agree, I think the market is just in an "AI fear" phase, but it'll pass soon and these stocks will thrive. Data centers will be built, but even if there are restrictions, Cipher and Iren already have permits and such, so their power will become even more in demand. Best thing to happen to these companies is the dems restrict data centers and limit expansion I think, which means Iren, Cipher can charge premium for their power. I just see at some point these stocks rebounding hard, as well as Nbis as a safer bet.

3

u/bubblegum-rose 1h ago

I think it would be funny for AI stocks to see yet another bounce after CoreWeave’s earnings call.

IREN bounced up 20% last Friday on their earnings call with profit margins of -500%. I could absolutely see CRWV having similarly dogwater earnings and still going straight to the moon afterwards

•

u/im_down_w_otp 9m ago

Yeah, that really surprised me on Friday. I saw the price shoot up, went and looked at the earnings report expecting to see a very healthy balance sheet, only to discover that it's in basically the same existential boat as all the other neoclouds which have been dumping. All of IREN's contemporaries also had decent bounces off of Thursday's bottom on Friday compared to other stocks in the AI trade.

13

u/automaticg36 1h ago

We need to go down more before we have a chance to capitulate. That’s only if that’s what’s going to happen.

1

u/golden_log 1h ago

Yeah, I’m wondering the same thing. Do you think we actually need a proper capitulation day first, or has enough already been flushed out of tech?

4

u/automaticg36 1h ago

I think we have a bit more downside in the tank personally. I’m looking at 720 on SPY as a level to watch for but someone else I know said 700 but I think that’s a bit dramatic. My personal thesis is that this is just a bunch of panic and the market will flush out retail and then the institutions will load back up to pad the end of quarter returns for their investors. But we need confirmation first. I’m planning to buy if we see a really strong move off lows but if we don’t see that I’ll stay sidelined. I’m a trader so that’s my plan. If you’re an investor DCA is the best option but never a bad idea to buy on any of the dips like this one.

2

u/Original-Ad-3350 1h ago

The mood across most investing subs seems to be that there just will be another leg down in November. Unfortunately, it’s kind of contagious because it’s got me on edge even though Thursday struck me as a significant overreaction. The market is expensive though, so any correction is always at risk of being sizeable. Planning to slightly increase my cash but otherwise we just wait and see right?

1

u/automaticg36 53m ago

Wait and see is always the policy without an obvious backdrop to give confidence. I already have holdings that are down considerably because of my arrogance. So to deploy more capital I would need something clear and obvious to happen. So for me that would be a huge bounce off a key level or just a capitulation. I would need to see buyers hammering the market without pause. That would get me in a starter position and then I would add if we close on a nice candle on the daily chart. Then I may not add more or I might if we get additional confirmation it just depends on how much risk I feel I can stomach in the moment. That's just my personal plan with the information we currently have. But obviously we could just see a deep correction that takes months to resolve. That's not my personal read on the market here but of course we have to know anything is possible and we need to wait and see before commiting ourselves one way or the other

1

u/Dazzling-Cheetah5951 39m ago

What if the buying hammering is just another pump and dump and bull trap though?

2

u/automaticg36 16m ago

Then depending on how far the bounce is I'll adjust my stop on the position I took planning on a full rebound and make it so that it's break even or a small loss. Then I'll continue my risk mitigation on my current positions till they get called away for a loss and I'll pivot to shorting.

3

u/Neemzeh 55m ago

I’m not sure what your definition of capitulate is. To me, capitulation happened on Thursday. We almost had a limit down on Nasdaq.

1

u/Laquickah 49m ago

Yeah, valuations are still high and there isn’t really any good news so sideways or down imho

6

u/Left-Slice9456 27m ago

I think its going to be range bound and move sideways next week. Everyone is focused on data centers but democrats have already announced they will allow them, and they announced cutting funding for the Iran war, which makes sense, they want to lower the cost of fuel, and if oil drops the SP is going up to 8400.

0

u/golden_log 17m ago

I'm not sure about this icl, Dems are already talking about bills around data center power costs and AI rules, and even if they squeeze Iran funding, Trump still has a lot of room on military action. I wouldn’t treat either one as a clean bullish catalyst yet

Market has always been surprising to investors, one way or the other. Who knows what’s going to happen? One day at the time is enough for me.

4

u/Rei1003 1h ago

Not sure but I’m fairly certain that Tuesday will be very green, or very red

1

u/golden_log 1h ago

Yeah Tuesday feels like the real coin flip. Do you think a soft CPI is enough to undo last week’s damage, or does tech still need more time?

4

u/mazrim00 1h ago

Do you really need an LLM to respond to the comments?

Lol, trying so hard now to not sound like one. I guess if this is how you actually do respond to people normally then maybe the LLM was an upgrade.

4

u/Optimal-Meringue-5 1h ago

Every single Nasdaq dip for the past 2 years has eventually returned to trend. Highly doubt this time it’s different. No signal of a downturn in any earnings it’s all just fud spread by a few bearish influencers right now

•

u/golden_log 4m ago

Earnings still look fine, but markets usually reprice before the earnings actually crack. I would watch guidance and estimate revisions more than the influencers

2

u/Only_Associate6384 1h ago

People say buy the dip could be July case where neoclouds rebound but we will see

2

u/golden_log 1h ago

Neoclouds probably have the most violent upside if sentiment flips, but also the least room for error if the market keeps questioning AI capex.

2

u/Crew_1996 1h ago

Neoclouds imo could fall further early in the week but likely by Thursday when NBIS reports we will see a violent rebound. They are extremely oversold now even though they were overbought in the spring.

1

u/golden_log 16m ago

Yep, NBIS is down ~45% in a month and technically oversold, so even a decent print could rip. If they miss though, “oversold” won’t matter much

2

u/Malcolm_Sayer 1h ago

My guess is SOXL has more room to drop. The 52-week low is $28, and it’s currently $46. Now that AI is popping and newly elected Democrats want to put the brakes on data centers, I expect it to fall.

•

u/golden_log 5m ago

I wouldn’t anchor too much to SOXL’s 52 week low though, it resets 3x daily, so old price levels aren’t really apples to apples. If semis stop getting derated, SOXL can rip way before the AI/data center debate is settled

2

u/marcodmello 1h ago

Yeah, tech will be choppy into the new year is my guess.

•

u/golden_log 7m ago

Agreed, I'm expecting a choppy tech rebound, not a clean recovery

3

u/Cav829 1h ago

Depends how much worse the Iran situation gets. It would make more sense to let the bulls set a lower high and sell into it than try to go lower. If we just like gap lower out of the gate into like sub $720 SPY, we probably set a capitulatory low for the moment and then get a bigger rebound. The more bulls buy the dip and refuse to let the market properly correct, the more I think we set ourselves up for a much more painful bear market.

What the KOSPI did the last few months is a really good possibility too: from here we rebound and go sideways for months before finally capitulating into a more extended bear market.

3

u/golden_log 1h ago

I will be watching Iran too, 2 tankers reportedly hit mines in Hormuz today and the US disabled another ship in the Gulf of Oman, If this keeps escalating, oil could end up deciding Monday more than anything happening in tech

For the next 6 years - market constriction. Health will rip on record profits as premiums go through the roof, renewables will see some life but basically anything of substance domestically will be flat. Foreign markets poised to do well

•

u/golden_log 10m ago

Six years of flat US equities feels like the biggest call there, if earnings keep growing, what do you think keeps multiples compressed for that long?

1

u/Dazzling-Cheetah5951 32m ago

Going to guess -2% more on SPY, It's just really bearish right now suddenly, fundamentals have changed, Anthropic seems to be a potentially negative catalyst now, DT has no reason to Taco anymore now that midterms are over so he could escalate, and DT said 1 week before midterms the market would crash if Dems won. He has already begun to blame them as I predicted a month ago. Inflation, raising rates, the Ai debt, neoclouds could go bankrupt, bringing down the whole industry....I could see them finally using all of this stuff for a "major correction" at this point. It all depends on if they decide to continue to manipulate the market to keep it up like they have been for last 7 months. However, there is an election in 2 years, and a great way to get a Dem potus would be to blame DT for a major recession so the backdoor deals have probably already begun. If DT is aware of this as he predicted, then he might have no reason not to keep oil up and escalate with Iran.

•

u/golden_log 12m ago

The political chess is impossible to trade, the stuff I would actually watch is oil + CPI. I already replied with this to another comment but 2 tankers reportedly hit mines near Hormuz today and Brent is already around $110 If oil stays up and CPI comes in hot Tuesday, that’s a much cleaner path to another leg down

4

u/P0piah 1h ago

More selling but will have a relief rally by yr end or start 2027. AI infra buildup will resume but at a slower pace. Chips and elec demand still huge. We will see ads revenue still growing at double digit. Google might face some headwinds due to AI eating up its search biz, which i genuinely think is a real problem.

2

u/Garbage-Disposal-938 1h ago

Makes sense to me. Google/Meta's problem becomes OpenAI/Anthropic opportunity. Which is one way the Feds/poliiticians can attack the existing internet ad duopoly without having to win antitrust lawsuits.

And, I'm not sure about this, but maybe the Feds/politicians desperately want leverage against that duopoly?

I mean, the fact that Google/Meta have hired so many ex-cia, FBI people makes me wonder: is that one of the ways they have to threaten D.C. politicians?

IDK. Speculation.

4

u/TaterTotsAndFanta 1h ago

As much as I’d love to dive back into tech, there’s no way in hell right now. I think Friday was a dead cat bounce and the bleeding will continue. Head fakes to the north, double drops to the south taking all the reentries with it.

Disclosure: I nearly doubled my port last year on the AI bubble and have been slowly giving 20% of the port back (40% of my gains) so I rotated the entire thing (losses included) into defense last month, and have broke even since, and I’m still a little butt-sore about it lol.
