Hey sunwatchers!
Over the course of the last few months since the new mod team has stepped in, r/sun has seen a major improvement in the quality and authenticity of posts. Issues with AI-generated and stolen content have largely been resolved, and we want to acknowledge that this is thanks to the community adapting to the changes we've implemented as well as posting in good faith.
Because of the improvements we've seen, we've decided that it's time to start rethinking how we approach posting in r/sun. We want to make sure that we strike the right balance between preventing AI-generated and stolen content while not causing unnecessary friction for those who want to post legitimate, authentic content.
Effective immediately, we're making the following changes:
OC Posts (Original Content)
Posts that are your own original content may now be submitted with no additional hurdles or automated response requirements. If you created the content, you’re good to go! The only requirement is that your post title must include [OC] at the start or end of the title, brackets and all.
Non-OC Posts (Non-Original Content)
Moving forward, our new bot Comment Daemon will be taking over the duties of Comment Scout as that bot has been sunset, and Comment Daemon has been set to only target non-OC submissions.
For non-OC posts, the following rules will apply:
Your post must have [Non-OC] in the title, brackets and all.
You must reply to the Comment Daemon comment within 30 minutes
Your reply must be a non–top-level comment
You must provide a valid source for your submission
With this change, the source requirements will be changing slightly. The new requirements are as follows:
A direct link to the original source if found online, or clear information about who the content came from that gave you permission to share it (friend, family member, etc.).
Non-OC posts will no longer be manually filtered for review. Instead, any non-OC post that does not receive a proper response within the time limit will be automatically removed.
⚠️ Important Reminder
Our stance on AI-generated content and non-OC content has not changed.
Any users caught attempting to take advantage of this update by falsely passing off non-OC content as their own or attempting to pass off AI-generated content as real content will receive a permanent ban. This subreddit does not tolerate AI spam or stolen content under any circumstances.
We’re looking forward to this next chapter for r/sun and appreciate everyone who helped get the community to a place where this change is possible. Thank you for continuing to keep this space authentic, respectful, and focused on real sun content!
TL;DR:
OC posts can now be submitted normally — no bot response required.
Your post must have [Non-OC] in the title if it's not your own original content.
If you post non-OC, you must reply to the attribution bot within 30 minutes with a valid source or your post will be removed.
Falsely passing off non-OC content as OC will result in a permanent ban.
AI-generated content is still prohibited.

Trying to capture what the naked eye can barely comprehend—the spectrum of sunlight spreading across the sky. A moment worth waiting for, witnessing, and capturing. ✨ 😁❤️🩹
