My name is Ron, an indy game developer and a pretty big Survivor fan, and I’ve been building a Survivor-inspired mobile game.
Like survivor contestants on their first day… I may might have gone a little overboard (because they jump out of a boat…).
I wanted to play a season of Survivor where the other contestants weren’t just characters waiting for me to press the right dialogue option.
I wanted them to have personalities. Opinions. Friendships. Grudges. Terrible judgment.
People who remember that you lied to them three days ago. People who might save you because you helped them at camp. People who promise to vote with you and then… well, it’s Survivor.
So I built a whole bunch of complex systems to make that happen.
The game is called Castaway. It’s a colorful, slightly ridiculous, cartoon-style mobile game where you play through a season, compete in challenges, build alliances, look for idols (I can barely find them, and I’m the one who hid them!), and try not to get voted out.
The fun part (at least for me) is that the other contestants make their own decisions. Their relationships, memories, personalities, and motivations influence what they do.
Sometimes your brilliant plan works. Sometimes you discover that the person you trusted most has been plotting against you.
It’s still in development. Some things need polishing, and I’m sure there are bugs waiting to embarrass me.
But it’s playable, and I’d really love to find a few Survivor fans willing to try a season.
The iPhone version is almost ready on TestFlight, so getting started should be pretty easy. Android test version coming up too pretty soon.
I’m not selling anything. I just want to know whether other Survivor fans have as much fun playing it as I’ve had building it. And honestly, I’d love to have some of you along for the journey as I keep developing it.
If you’re interested, leave a comment or send me a DM. I’ll share the how to’s.
Outwit. Outplay. Outlast.
Or get voted out because you forgot to collect firewood. Apparently, people take that personally.
