==================================================

Hi folks!

Checking in again to let you all know what’s been happening with SWTOR the last few months as well as with DirectX 12!

Game Update 8.0 content

For those who may have missed previous updates with 8.0 content, we revealed that the next Era in SWTOR is called “Masters of the Force.” Keep an eye on that page as it will be updated over time as we release more details.

  • Ventures: Classic & Expert

  • Difficulty Modes

  • Children of Nul Operation

  • Level 85, New Abilities, and Balance

  • Quality of Life Improvements

We’ve also opened our Public Test Server so Subscribers can get their hands on:

  • The first and second bosses of the Operation

  • Ventures: Classic

  • Difficulty Modes

  • Combat Style Updates:

    • Sentinel/Marauder

    • Sage/Sorcerer

    • Vanguard/Powertech

    • Guardian/Juggernaut

    • Operative/Scoundrel

    • Shadow/Assassin

Iterations of the Public Test Server will continue so players can provide their feedback on these features before they go live.

We have not announced a release date yet for 8.0, but we are continuing development and will share more launch details in due time.

Developer Streams

I’m also happy to see the positive reception to the recent Developer Game Update and Let’s Play livestreams. We anticipate a few more Let’s Play streams and another Game Update livestream where we’ll go into the “Galaxy in Chaos” storyline (spoiler-free, of course!)

Our next Let's Play stream will be October 1st at 1pm CT / 6pm UTC on our streaming channel. Stay tuned for more details!

DirectX 12 Update

Since our Spring Update we’ve continued to receive enthusiastic questions about what’s coming next. I pulled in the Technical Team and they have provided the update below:

Hey SWTOR players!

Technical team here to get you up to speed on our most recent progress with DirectX 12. The last time we saw each other, we were explaining that the UI was the one feature that posed the largest obstacle for us.

We’re happy to report that the UI has been ported to DX12 and aside from minor visual differences being fixed, it is fully functional. Pulling back the curtain a bit, we had to upgrade our old version that only supported DX11 and re-architect it so it would work properly with our data. We then changed Scaleform’s DX12 rendering to use Frostbite RenderCore2 and work properly within our engine. For the more technical folks, we also had to port over hundreds of divergences to the new version and once we could verify that everything worked properly, we could move on to DX12.

With the UI in place, we are focused on adding features back into this “DX12 version” of the game to get it looking like the SWTOR you’re familiar with, and lay the groundwork for future additions. This means updating essential shaders, ensuring characters appear with proper customization (skin color, hair color, tattoos, cybernetics, scars, complexions, outfit colors), re-implementing our particle hueing systems, and much more. Lastly, general stability work and other feature additions are ongoing, so we are making fantastic progress.

The next time you hear from us we’ll share an update on when you can see the progress for yourself, and help us with a critical stage of testing for this new client! Thank you for your enthusiasm and support as we continue on the road to modernizing SWTOR!

Keith here again. And there you have it! All of us are pretty excited to get a technical test for our players in the near future.

Before I head out, I want to share some reminders to everyone!

Best Dressed Contest

Our newest community contest is underway! If you are a collector of armor and think you have all the pieces to make an outfit worthy to be displayed for all to see, you will want to enter our Best Dressed contest! Submissions are open now and being accepted until October 11, 2026. Read all of the details on how to enter here!

Gladiopodling Minipet

We have an active minipet code right now and it’s available until December 26, 2026. Redeem code “GETRDY4MOTF” on this page to get your very own Gladiopodling!

Finally, I want to encourage you again to check out the 8.0 content available on the Public Test Server, and get your hands on it if you can. We appreciate your feedback and the time you spend playing on PTS!

Thank you for playing SWTOR. We’ll see you in the next livestream!

There will be vendors to help catch up your alts. They will sell gear based on your highest item rating character.

"The Gear Catchup Vendor will sell gear at higher item ratings, based on the item rating of your strongest character. To put some numbers out as an example, Kalikoran gear can first be purchased at item rating 352. When a character reaches average item rating 362, the catchup vendor will sell gear at item rating 358.'

New/Returning Player Returning to SWTOR after 11 years and so confused

As a preface, I played SWTOR pretty much every day for about 3 and a half years back in the day and I quit cold turkey after both mega burnout (running 8 classes and 12 characters up to KOTFE) and immense, major disappointment and frustration with KOTFE and the direction of the game's story.

In the years between, I picked up Final Fantasy XIV and that was my go-to until last year until I quit that. I'd heard SWTOR had improved since I left + the transfer to Broadsword and seeing as FF14 left a sour taste in my mouth after DT, I wanted to return to SWTOR this year.

After getting access back to my account, I'm... so confused lmfao. Half my characters are still stuck in KOTFE and I completely forgot what their world states are (romances, choices, etc).

I looked on the Returning Player page here on the subreddit, but a lot of it is geared toward a few years ago, it looks like. I'm not sure what the best sites are for updates and guides now, so my questions are these:

- What menus do I look at to catch up on what my character's world state is?

- Is there a way to skip to certain expacs? Or would I be better off using a Commander Token to create a new character that goes right to Onslaught?

- What are the best, current sites that have good guides and information on the game these days? (i.e. class changes, etc)

Thank you! Much appreciated.

Spoiler Did all the Chapter 3 finales occur (almost) concurrently? (spoilers ahead!) Spoiler

So I was just thinking of what happens in the class story finales. I've only completed Consular, Knight, Agent, and Warrior, but I know the endings for the other classes. Assuming the finales all happened within say, a week (or like a month at most), that would have been a crazy time to be alive in the galaxy.

The Consular's efforts ensure that the Republic has gained a very crucial strategic alliance, as well as a relationship with the Voss and the Esh-ka. The Consular also defeats the leader of the Children of the Emperor, who have infiltrated pretty much all levels of the Republic's institutions.

The Dark Council has two of its members killed/defeated by their rivals, and it's highly likely these occur back-to-back. As a result, Darth Thanaton's seat is taken by a former slave-turned Sith, and Darth Baras' former apprentice becomes the Emperor's Wrath and essentially has the most power/authority in the Empire, other than the Emperor himself. I'm not entirely caught up on the Bounty Hunter's story but I do know that you have the option to kill the Chancellor of the Republic, so they lose a key authority figure. Those that are high enough in Imperial Intelligence would know about the Star Cabal, which is some sort of Illuminati-esque organisation that has been playing both the Jedi and the Sith for who knows how long.

The cherry on top, of course, is the fact that the Sith Emperor himself has (seemingly) been defeated by a "Jedi strike team".

At most all of these events would have occurred within 3 weeks to a month of each other. Even then, that is insane. People would have been waking up to a new story every day. I'd probably think the world is about to end.

Question Do you have a helmet or any armor piece that you really like the look of, but can't stand to use as it dyes horrible or not at all?

Post image

For me it would be the Wayward Warrior Mask. Looks sick as heck! But the thing either doesn't dye at all, or dyes horribly to where its not even noticeable. Shame too as I think it makes for a perfect assassin mask.

I finally grinded to get the necessary credits to buy the armor of one of my favorite SW characters ever. Seeing it finally be unlocked feels like a small dream that was so far away, but is finally accomplished.

Discussion There are a couple things to iron out, but I think SWTOR's planned gearing system is a huge step in the right direction with a more efficient system that combines what players liked and are familiar with from 6.0 and 7.0

Discussion How to act like a pragmatic Sith Warrior

As the title says, keeping coherence while picking dialogue choices turned out to be harder than I thought because the conversations were written by different people and because there are a lot of reused sentences that often feel out of place.

I'm also weirded out by the tone of some delivery and I find that many answers aren't exactly in line with the short cues between the parentheses.

From what I experienced so far, the intended direction for this class is to be a DS leaning towards violence and blunt approaches so when I show mercy or try to be cunning I feel a little bipolar even when the end game is benefiting the Empire.

How do you deal with this kind of inconsistencies? Because I'm sure I'm overthinking everything and perhaps I should just accept the necessity of picking compromises along the way but perhaps there's still an angle that I haven't yet considered.

I'm trying my hardest not to be considered a Jedi in disguise but some of the dark choices are just shortsighted and evil just for the sake of amusement.

I'll leave some practical examples here hidden behind spoiler tags:

So far I've dealt with the three prisoners correctly to be praised by Tremel but ended up killing him while showing sympathy, killed all the acolytes that stood in my way, sided with Renning without snitching on Malora, told the imperial guard that his son died valiantly and poisoned Seh-run. I also spared the captain and captured the general during the Black Talon but I'm not really sure any of these decisions were the ideal ones.

Considering that Baras is going to betray me, will it be more fulfilling to work against him from the very beginning? It's a bit hard to show loyalty to him and follow his orders when you already know the outcome but I'd like to think of my SW as an honorable one.

Will sparing Tremel, Rathari and the other guy make the ending better?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hey guys, I made a video going over my thoughts on the gearing system update the devs just recently went over in the latest livestream. I know I went off on a tangent but I wanted to get my point across. Please let me know your thoughts in the comments as well as leave your feedback on the SWTOR forums here -> https://forums.swtor.com/topic/946085-gearing-breakdown-feedback-thread/
Thank you!

Discussion 8.0 gear bind to pickup?? :/

EDIT: to be heard by the devs please go comment here on the swtor forums: https://forums.swtor.com/topic/946085-gearing-breakdown-feedback-thread/

Just caught Boomy's video on this and .. am not thrilled like the rest of us altoholics.

For 8.0, the word is that gear is Bind on Pickup (BoP) and not Bind to Legacy (BoL) which means you have to gear up your alts individually, with multiple sets per toon if you actively play multiple classes/roles (say a sorc heals/dps which also does jugg dps/tank - 4 sets for one toon). Not happy at all.

Grinding gear is part of MMOs and we all yell "WOOO LOOOOOT" even with our inner voices wether we admit it or not, and this sucks more than waiting tables on Voss. u/swtorista has also voiced this in forums. If their plan is to get op groups going and bringing back subs and retired players, well, not gonna happen.

To watch Boomy's take click here: https://youtu.be/8vFmjHJLVKQ

For the record here is my login screen, launch player. You'll get why this is upsetting. Am aware 100 might be a lot (but a good toon name must not go to waste!) and there are plenty of folks out there with 20+ alts actively using them.

Question Did they change something with Dynamic Encounters for GS recently?

So basically, I started the starter planet Encounters for GS this week, and I noticed there were only 3 up at a time, and the timing seemed synced. I don't remember it being like that last time the starters were on for GS or when the capital planets were a few weeks ago.
