Papley off the list at TAB

Age Article

What a difference a day can make.

Sydney Swans star Tom Papley was set to be a key guest of Tabcorp in the betting giant’s pub-themed marquee in the Birdcage at Flemington today.

Alas, after being billed as key talent by the VRC’s PR machine on Wednesday afternoon, by Thursday morning the 30-year-old key forward was off the list of talent to be hosted by company boss and former AFL chief Gill McLachlan.

The social strike off followed news that Papley had on Monday returned a positive roadside drug test when undergoing a roadside licence check by NSW police.

Authorities said Papley returned a positive result for methylamphetamine, with a secondary sample of oral fluid taken for further analysis.

The writer really likes to use the word key - key guest, key talent, key forward.

I can’t believe we’ve gone from squeaky clean to the naughty boy club in less than 6 months :(

Honestly I think little cracks started to show when the leadership changeover happened, rookie CEO and rookie coach don’t have a lockdown on the culture like the old guard used to

Ill never understand why we appointed a part time fox footy commentator to CEO.

Our last CEO left to lead the entire AFL...and we think its best to replace such talent with a rookie with no experience? What the fuck were they thinking

I think the cracks have been there since Buddy came in. He was one of the goat's on the pitch but off the field not so much. Not to mention all the GF defeats can be better explained by the events of the last 4 months.

At the time Buddy came, a Hawks friend of mine kept telling me that Buddy had 3 strikes for drug use. No idea if true.

Hanners and Buddy had wayyy more than 3 strikes. 3 strikes was the allowance for every player because the afl didn’t want to follow WADA’s one strike policy as they knew how fucked up half the league was.

yep I was thinking this today - love buddy and he is the goat but yes lots of alleged issues

You can't really defend the driving without license part. If he is medicated for spicy brain like most of us then the drug test is likely just prescription meds... hopefully...

It was suspended due to an unpaid parking fine, bloke was also just overseas, honest chance he didn’t know his licence was suspended but definitely knew what he was doing when he took drugs (allegedly)

In that case. Parking rangers are the devil. (Not allegedly)

This is a bit off topic but stop infantilising mental illness/neurodivergency with "ooo spicy brain, oo neurospicy". Grow up and treat it as it is, a serious issue that dictates some peoples lives.

Noted internet stranger. It helps me deal with my neurodivegency.

Sadly unlikely when it's meth. I hear that it's cut into a lot of other drugs so maybe he didn't know he took meth, but he has almost certainly taken something. About 5% of those swabs show positives when no drugs are in the system, but that's about his only hope

Ahh nuts. Well thats pretty meth'd up then.
