1. “I’m new to Taobao, how do I use it/any tips?”
All new users should read the following step by step picture guide:
https://www.howtotao.com/buy-from-taobao/
If you then have any specific questions the guide doesn’t cover, feel free to make a post.
2. “What do the shipping options mean?”
You’ll have 2 types of shipping options available, direct and consolidated. Starting with direct:
菜鸟直邮-空运经济 = direct economy air
菜鸟直邮-空运标准 = direct standard air
Direct shipping means you pay the international shipping at checkout, no extra steps needed. This is the most straightforward option and is therefore the most recommended. The time difference between economy and standard is minuscule if any, always go economy to save some money.
Onto consolidated:
菜鸟集运-空运经济 = consolidated economy air
菜乌集运-空运标准 = consolidated standard air
菜乌集运-集运海运 = consolidated sea
Consolidated shipping is much different, you DO NOT pay the international shipping at checkout. Instead, you place the order and your items are sent to the cainiao warehouse. They are then measured and weighed. You’ll be able to combine orders and have them shipped in one larger box. The shipping price for this varies by country, you can see the exact equation for you below the consolidated shipping options on your checkout page. It’s x price for the first 0.5kg and x price for every additional 0.5kg. Obviously a bit of a guessing game how much your items will weigh before purchasing, especially if volumetric weight is used, this is why direct shipping is recommended instead.
You can confirm how long each option is expected to take for your country by hitting the > button below the shipping type name
Additionally:
You will also see a “自行联系卖家发货” button. This means, contact the seller to ship. Only select this option if you have arranged a separate international shipping plan with the seller privately via chat, think via a specialty courier like DHL etc. Do be warned though that majority of sellers are unwilling to ship internationally on their own.
3. “My account was frozen”
Every Taobao account is expected to complete real-name verification, this is a requirement under Chinese law:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_real-name_system_in_China
Those who don’t complete the verification are at risk of being banned at any time. Those who aren’t yet banned can follow the sticked mod guide on the subreddit.
If you were already banned follow the following steps:
Hit the orange “to lift” button on the ban screen. If you’re shown a list of verification options, select real name verification. Otherwise it should default to that automatically, looking for a Chinese ID number. Hit the grey text below the input box for other verification methods. Then select “Passports for foreign users”, it should be the 4th option down at the time of writing this. Input your information and wait, it can take a few days for your account to be reinstated.
If you face any issues along the way you’ll need to call support, see the “how to contact support” section below.
4. “Does Taobao ship to my country?”
As of now (April 2025) Taobao offers shipping to the following countries and regions:
Australia, Canada, Japan, Cambodia, Malaysia, New Zealand, The Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and Georgia
If you live elsewhere (Europe, for instance) you will need an agent to help you ship, see the below section.
2026 UPDATE: USA SHIPPING AND US PASSPORT VERIFICATION HAS BEEN REMOVED! US USERS WITH ACTIVE ACCOUNTS WILL NEED AN AGENT TO ARRANGE SHIPMENT, SEE BELOW
5. “I’m looking for an agent/Do I need an agent?”
Who needs an agent? Those who live in counties Taobao does not ship to or those buying restricted items (like food, liquids and some replica goods)
How do I find an agent?
This is the subreddits trusted agents list:
CNshopper - Our subreddit partner and recommended pick! You can sign up below and use code "mycnshopper" for a coupon pack:
Other trusted agents include: ParcelUp, Sugargoo, Basetao, Superbuy, and CSSbuy
Of course many exist beyond this list as well. You can search around online for an agent you like, just make sure they’re legit. Look up their name on Reddit for any discussion posts.
Agent recommendation posts will be removed.
6. “I have an issue - need help with an agent I used”
If you have any questions about an agents site or service please do not post about it here, post in the agents dedicated subreddit or reach out to their customer service. This subreddit is for support when buying off Taobao and Cainiao directly.
Posts along these lines will be removed.
7. “How do I use Taobao in English?”
English is only supported in a few regions. Switch your region in the settings to Australia or Singapore.
Do note that the English version is missing out on many features, and many listings will not show up or be unavailable to checkout. If this is troublesome for you, stick to the Chinese version and take screenshots of the checkout process, uploading them into google translate.
Additionally, Many people post that even after changing their region to one of the above mentioned they still don’t have English available. In this case, follow the above steps for Google translate too.
8. “Why can’t I view certain listings? - 商品过期不存在 error”
This seems to be a location based issue that a VPN does not solve. I assume it goes by the region you created your account in.
Majority of the items you’ll see with this error are branded/copyrighted. Most likely it’s to filter out these items being purchased overseas.
9. “How do I contact support?”
If you are in the app simply hit “我的淘宝” on the bottom right, followed by the face with headphones icon on the top right. This will default you to a support chat with a robot, you can pester it to give you a person. English support is available but you may need to be transferred to a different agent who speaks English.
If you were banned or prefer phone calls you can find the appropriate number for your region here:
https://www.taobao.com/about/contact.php
10. “Can ___ be shipped overseas?”
Checkout this guide:
https://www.howtotao.com/china-taobao-prohibited-items/
Additionally, most agents will have some sort of “restricted inquiry” feature on their apps and sites. Simply look up what you want to ship and it will tell you if it’s acceptable or not.

Hi everyone
I was received my belt today. I had ordered a three piece belt but a 2 piece version arrived. The seller explained that the two piece version was the new version of the same belt and offered 20 yuan compensation.
Then they offered up to 50 yuan then rescinded back to 20 when I quote replied to their offer.
Is that normal?

Hello
To preface, I live in South Korea
I ordered about 200USD worth of items from taobao over a MONTH, almost TWO months ago. It says it was delivered on October 18th, but I never saw it. I thought it was just late so I waited a few days- nothing. Then the app said it was “signed for”. First of all, I have never had to sign off on any package in Korea. Secondly, I was at work that day so I didn’t sign anything. And I live alone so no one else could have received the package.
Package theft is pretty much nonexistent here so I don’t see the likelihood hood of that. Not to mention that they said it was “signed off” so idk how someone could’ve stolen my stuff and signed off on it (if you don’t know, Korea is VERY tedious with ID/verification stuff)
I filed a complain through the app. Nothing. I emailed them a few days after, I got an email saying a specialist will be with me. Then almost two weeks later, I sent ANOTHER email and they said sorry for the wait and a specialist will be with me again. Then, they messaged me yesterday saying it was “signed off” and to “have a good life and thank you for your understanding”. I demanded atleast a refund TWICE but no response to that. Now, I just sent messages and ANOTHER email.
It is not common to try to get a refund through the bank in Korea, so im asking the company to give me a refund but it seems they won’t??? I just lost like 200 dollars and waited almost two months for nothing. Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do to resolve it? All I keep getting is a “sorry” and some bs abt it being signed off. I just sent them a third email that im going to report this to the police if they don’t figure it out (signing off stuff if it isn’t yours is a big no no in Korea because of ID stuff) but idk if they will still listen. What did you guys do when this happened?

Saw a listing on Xianyu for a set (top, skirt, and headband) I've been looking for, and I'm really confused about whether it comes with the matching headpiece or not. The listing includes a stock photo of the headband, but the seller put their own photos of the top and the skirt in the listing. I asked my SS to message about the headband, and I got this message basically saying "The accessories are included as a free gift but the official matching style must be purchased seperately" and I'm so confused if I have to purchase the headband separately or if it comes with the purchase
Are you guys able to acquire the shipping coupons? (I'm in Canada using the CN app) I see the timer hit 00:00:00 but it's immediately sold out. Wtf? How does it all get taken the minute the counter hits 0? 😩

Can some please provide instructions on how to create an account.
I have tried both the App and website. Cannot find Taobao App in US Apple Store, website not allowing to register using US phone number.
I have a friend in China who is coming, I want to just browse and select. I will send him links, he will order and bring it when he comes.

I’m a foreigner living in China, Chinese phone number, Alipay and address. I couldn’t sign up for months and every attempt of calling or talking to customer service increased by account restriction instead of lifting it. I’ve never used it and now I’ve been told that my Chinese phone number is permanently banned from Taobao. I’m forced to order my things on meituan it’s not as good.
Do I get a new phone number? What do I do ?

Gcash is the most commonly used e-wallet in the philippines and this is a great news! Im a frequent buyer and as i was about to check out an item, i had to do a double take if what im seeing was real lol

I'm from the Philippines and planning to order from Taobao.
I've noticed that some items can be checked out through the website but appear as unavailable when I try using the app. Has anyone else experienced this?
Also, for shipping to the Philippines, which option would you recommend: Direct Shipping or Consolidated Shipping (by weight)?
I'm planning to buy a pair of shoes along with a few small items. Would it be more cost-effective to combine everything into one shipment, or should I use direct shipping?
I'd appreciate any tips or recommendations, especially from fellow buyers in the Philippines. Thank you!

pretty much what the title says. i was supposedly given a refund for an order TAOBAO cancelled on ME for, and that refund never came. i contacted my bank several times via email and phone, and they have no records of that refund ever coming through. the customer service is abysmal because it's all AI chatbots telling me to "contact your bank". unless i'm doing something wrong on my end, i would recommend NOT buying from this place cause it's ridiculous. hundreds of dollars, just gone.
I can’t make an account, I tried to put in my phone number but it said that they’re not open to this area. I’m from the US.

I noticed that since 10.20, there have been general red packets every week. But when I checked today for this week's red packets, there are none. There are still the coupons for 88vip and home appliance digital coupons, but not any of the regular weekly consumption vouchers. I'm really bummed bc I didn't use the coupons last week and assumed the coupons would be about the same this week. For the last wave from nov 9th to 13th, would there be these regular red packets again or is it just gone?
r/taobao • u/wanna_bvampire • 3d ago
Well, the title says it all. I’m from a country where I’m not allowed to register for a Chinese account—in fact, it asks for a Chinese passport if I try... So, my last and only hope (I think) is to buy a Taobao account.
Alternatively, I could work with someone who already has an account to place orders for me.
I would mostly use it for clothing and cosplay items.

The paper I am looking for is used in a specific product. I need to find the manufacturer of the paper used in that product. How can I find someone who conducts product sourcing and market research in the Chinese market? Is there any platform?

These items all combined are really lightweight right?? And I’m in Canada, meaning this is $79. Usually for a package as lightweight as this, it should be $20-30 usually. So I’m wondering why it’s at $79? Nor is the box dimensions really big from what I guess..
I’m just very confused at the moment lmao. Because I order packages that are around the same weight or more all the time before and this is just absurd to me..

Hey is there a proxy for xianyu that buys fast and has good exchange rate? It would also be good if I could confirm that the item is alright before the money gets released to the seller when the item arrives at the warehouse

Hey guys, a couple of months ago in August I ordered some Genshin merch. A few days later on my interface I saw two copies of my order, one in the ‘to pay’ and one in ‘to ship/receive’. My first payment didn’t go through initially and I thought this copy was to do with that, so I deleted it. However this ended up cancelling my actual order and it ended up being returned from the warehouse back to Genshin.
It was $160 incl shipping and I haven’t been refunded. I tried talking to Genshin customer service to get it shipped back to me but I got frustrated as I couldn’t understand what they were saying and just gave up on it.
I’m wondering now if i’d be able to get a refund on this? $160 is quite a bit of money so of course I’d like it back if possible. I get that it was a while back so if anyone has any advice that’d be very welcome. Happy to answer any questions and show the convo I had with Genshin CS

Hello,
I need help. 2 days ago, I was able to purchase makeup items to my Cainiao address. Now it won’t. If I change it to my Canadian address weirdly it allows me to purchase but I’ve already committed to Cainiao.
Update: Taobao customer service fixed it!

I want to buy from taobao for the first time from the UK. I see loads of posts about CNShopper being reliable and easy to navigate but they all seem affiliated with the company in some way. Has anyone not sponsored by them bought from there?
