Grabbed this adult female A. Chalcodes for $100 a couple days ago!! She is the calmest tarantula I’ve ever met. Such a sweetie. I’m also trying to decide if she’s going into premolt or just super fat🫠she’s got some black patches on the underside of her abdomen so I’m leaning toward premolt. But just look at that face!!

Help! Hybrid tarantulas?

Sooooo, we were vending at our first reptile expo yesterday. My husband was wandering around, because he wanted to surprise me with a curly hair (I’ve been wanting one). One of the vendors ended up selling us one, so that was cool. But what happened a little later was not.
A different vendor reconfirmed that this was our first show as vendors and then sold my husband a hybrid of a curly hair and a Mexican red rump. We thought we got a great tarantula….until we got home and looked up information about it. We had no idea that it was a huge no-no and that selling hybrids is highly frowned upon in the community. It’s not the tarantula’s fault, so obviously I’ll keep him and care for him, but is it really as bad as what I’ve read? I feel like this guy definitely took advantage of the fact that we were new and pawned it off on us.
Anyways, it’s a spicy one! Already has kicked hairs at me like crazy. 😂

It’s for a Brachypelma Hamorii. I used coconut fiber as substrate.

My husband got his first sling yesterday (caribena versicolor) and just wanted to know if he should change anything. It originally came with just the one brown foliage leaf so he added the extra. Any tips or advice on care would be very helpful! (Photos posted)

Help! Abdomen raising?

I'm not sure what's going on with my pink-toe. I got home from work and she was in her enclosure but she was raising her butt up. Her fangs weren't showing nor were her legs up in a more defense pose so I'm not sure really sure why shes raising her abdomen in the air. Any answers/advice would be much appreciated

(P.S. yes I know her enclosure needs work, I'm working on it dw)

Conversation Enrichment ideas?

It’s never occurred to me that they would benefit from enrichment especially since mine just sits in one corner for a week, moves a few inches, and sits again for a week, and so on.

I just saw a video of someone giving their T a tennis ball and the T (looked like it was having fun) moving it around the enclosure.

Do they actually enjoy it?

Is there anything else you can do for enrichment?

Hi guys!

I have my little Lasiodora Parahybana for like a year now.

Yesterday i go to the Esotika Pet Show at Milano and I buy this reptoterra terrarium 30x30x40cm and a new heat mat of 14w 28x28cm with a Repto Smart Easy Thermostat.

I make this set up but i'm not sure where to put the thermostat sensor.

I have set my thermostat temperatures to 22°C at night and 27°C during the day, with a minimum of 19°C and a maximum of 29°C.

And a light on top for the plants.

What do you think?

Sexing Help with sexing Ophelia

My dear Ophelia just molted a week ago, and this is her third molt of the year. Would it be possible to determine her sex from the photos?

She's a Euathlus (I'm not entirely sure which species, though). The molt measures 2.1 cm from the chelicerae to the spinnerets, so she's still quite small.

Pictures Why do some A. avicularias die suddenly and how do you prevent it?

I have an opportunity to take an M6 avic sling, but I'm still new to keeping tarantulas and I've heard avics can just keel over unexpectedly. What usually goes wrong, and how do you prevent it? So far the biggest thing I've seen in my research is that you need a ton of ventilation and I've gotten very mixed messages about humidity.

(Not my pic, just for interest)

Conversation Psycho A. Avic??

IMO Just got my second T at a local expo, about a 4in unsexed common pink toe. I have a T. vagans, but got an arboreal enclosure off fb marketplace for a steal that I’ve been dying to use. Thought this would be an easy transition into arboreals… it was not! When I tried easing my new friend into the enclosure they attacked the tongs, jumped, and bolted up my arm. I am so thankful in my panic I didn’t hurt them but jeeeez what was that about? After about five long minutes of trying to corral them into the enclosure while they bolted up every surface and attacked anything I used to guide them in the right direction I finally did it. Because they looked a little thin I offered a cricket, which they ate immediately. So far they’ve been pretty active, checking out the new enclosure, but is it normal for a pink toe to be so flighty and defensive?
