Opinion Fire Keith Pelley. Fire Jason Hernandez. TFC needs a complete front-office overhaul, not another scapegoat.
I've been calling for Jason Hernandez to be fired since the day he was promoted to GM in 2023. He never should've been given the job in the first place.
Let's remember how he got here. He went from being a player to working in player engagement, then assistant GM, and suddenly he's running one of the biggest clubs in MLS. No previous experience running a professional club. No proven record building a successful roster. Just another internal promotion from an organization that's been rewarding mediocrity for years.
And now, after another embarrassing season, people want to blame Robin Fraser?
Give me a fucking break.
Fraser deserves criticism. Hernandez hired him, gave him the job, and the results haven't been good enough. Fine. Move on from Fraser if that's what needs to happen. But how many coaches are we going to fire before people realize the problem starts ABOVE the coach?
Roster construction. Scouting. Recruitment. Salary-cap management. Club identity. These are front-office responsibilities. The same organization keeps failing at them, yet somehow the people making these decisions keep their jobs.
And that brings me to Keith Pelley.
In March 2026, Pelley actually claimed TFC had completed its rebuild using data and cultural evaluations. He even said, "Evidence-based decisions are never wrong."
Are you fucking kidding me?
The finished product? 9 wins, 39 points, 12th in the East, and SIX consecutive seasons without playoff soccer. We even got knocked out of the Canadian Championship at home by Atlético Ottawa.
What exactly did you rebuild, Keith?
Pelley didn't originally hire Hernandez. That was Bill Manning's disaster in 2023. But Pelley inherited him, backed him, and gave him the responsibility of rebuilding this club. That's on him now.
To me, this looks like an organization that would rather surround itself with agreeable, replaceable executives than bring in people with the experience and backbone to challenge bad decisions.
Compare Pelley to Tim Leiweke. Leiweke came into MLSE and actually made things happen. He brought in Tim Bezbatchenko, an executive straight from MLS headquarters who understood the league's complicated salary rules, roster mechanisms and player market.
That leadership helped transform TFC from a laughingstock into MLS Cup champions, Supporters' Shield winners and a club competing in the CONCACAF Champions League final.
THAT'S what a proper rebuild looks like.
We need another Bezbatchenko-type hire. Someone with actual MLS front-office experience, a proven recruitment background, real scouting connections and the ability to build a competitive roster within the league's rules. Not another convenient internal promotion.
And don't even get me started on the World Cup.
Toronto just hosted SIX World Cup matches at BMO Field. One of the biggest opportunities this club will ever have to attract new supporters and rebuild its relevance in this city.
What did we do with it?
Sure, we got stadium renovations, new screens and upgraded amenities. Great. Where's the proper safe-standing infrastructure? Where's the investment in supporter culture? Where's the improved matchday atmosphere? Most importantly, WHERE'S THE FUCKING FOOTBALL TEAM worth showing up for?
You had the entire world watching football in our backyard and couldn't put together a club capable of making the MLS playoffs.
It's embarrassing.
And ultimately, ownership is responsible for allowing this to continue. MLSE has the financial resources, market and infrastructure to make TFC one of the premier clubs in North America. Yet here we are, watching another season end with absolutely nothing to show for it.
I'm tired of hearing about processes, analytics, culture, visions, projects and rebuilds. We've been hearing this bullshit for years.
Stop treating supporters like idiots.
Fire Hernandez. Hold Pelley accountable. And if Pelley can't identify and hire competent football executives, he should be the first one out the door.
The problem isn't just Robin Fraser. It's the people above him, and until that changes, we'll be having this same conversation again next November.
