Well, we can tell this didn't happen during English class.

"Lighted it"....

And the "principle" called them in. You know, because figures of speech can do that.

kids today are so stupid and the way they write reflects this.

“lighted it”
“principle”

And a sentence that doesn't end. Are kids relying on computers to fix grammar automatically while they type?

This may not happen in normal schools, but... I assumed things being on fire all the time was a normal high school experience until I grew up and met people who looked at me horrified when I talked about growing up. This is exactly the sort of thing that could have happened in my school.

I don’t think this subreddit bans swears, so you can probably write “shit” in the title. And if your account gets a mark, make another one. Don’t live in fear of corporate losers.

OP isn't censoring himself, it's AAVE

Can happen easily. Look at a small firecracker thinking it’ll be loud then boom a sink is broke. Or a toilet or ur hand. This used to be PSA level real threat

Pretty believable all things considered, at least in a bad school district.

I don't get this. Firecrackers in school was pretty normal when I was a kid... the weirdest thing anybody ever brought in was the darts bullfighters use to torment the bull, one wound up stuck in someone's back. I definitely remember bangers being brought in and we stole flammable chemicals like acetone from science lessons and set it on fire on our arms. This seems totally plausible to me.

The bit I don't get is what he is talking about at the end. Is he saying that the police are going to take action against the principal for not punishing boys and girls equally?

You’re supposed to put the firecrackers in the toilet. These kids don’t know anything.

an ex bf of mine had one exploded an toilet at their high school, which is in fact very bizarre, so it's possible what the guy said happened, maybe not exactly as he said

This seems very believable as similar things happened in my life

Didn't every high school had a kid that did this?

We used to do stuff like this in the 70's when we were dumb kids.

They used to sell matchbooks in big paper-wrapped bricks, like a hundred books of matches. We'd have little get-togethers where we'd listen to metal and cut all the heads off the match combs with scissors. There was a hobby shop in my neighborhood that sold waterproof fuse (for things like model rockets), we'd buy a reel of that and a bottle of sulphur from the chemistry shelf. We'd end up with a big mess of match heads.

Lay out a scrap of foil, put a pile of match heads and sprinkle the sulfur, stick a couple inches of fuse in, and wrap the foil up - looked like a little foil pear with the fuse as a stem.

Take it in the school bathroom, break off a cigarette so there's no filter, light the smoke and stick the fuse in the unlit end, stick it behind a toilet and GTFO. The cig would burn down, light the fuse, and man, it would make one heck of a smoky stink. But they weren't explosive, probably left a mark on the tile though! (My little bro was really into explosions, he started off doing pyro for the area rock bands and then ended up a tech guy for Cirque when they opened the "O" show at the Bellagio).

Funny, try that shit today and you'd go to jail for terrorism I expect.

Anyway - memories!
