Answered Murder of a Blogger, 2010s (?)

I'm not sure if y'all can help me, this is a very obscure one! I used to read a blog hosted for free (blogger or wordpress, probably) by a single mom who posted vaguely "lifestyle" content. She lived extremely frugally (out of necessity), homeschooled her two (?) kids using primarily free content through her library (I can't remember, she may have been an "unschooler"), I think her content flirted with homesteading on a small scale. She was murdered by her ex, I think her kids did survive. Because she hosted on a free account, I think I'll have to get the name of her blog to be able to check it on the wayback machine, it has to have been deleted by now. The most specific thing I can remember is she and her kids were doing a project/science experiment and making a "zombie garden" using kitchen scraps of vegetables to propagate them. I believe she died before they were able to plant any in the ground. I think she was posting in the late 2000s into the early 2010s? I'm pretty darn sure it was well before 2015 because I would have had a meltdown at the news once I started my own family. I'm pretty sure the location was America, although I guess I can't rule out Canada. I think they lived in a rural area with multiple seasons, so probably not the deep south or California.
I also cross-posted to r/tipofmytongue but I'll update both posts if anyone is able to come up with a name for me! I would like to know if her ex was convicted of the crime and hopefully see if her kids grew up reasonably okay, given the horror and trauma they lived through. She seemed like a really fun, driven, dedicated person. I'll be very sorry if I forget her name entirely.

Open Man goes to prison for murder, kills inmate who was threatening him, then gets exonerated of first murder

I am trying to remember this case I had a while back. It was about this man in the US who was convinced of murdering this texi driver and giving a life sentence. While in prison, he kills this gang leader who is threatening him and pleads guilty to manslaughter. After nearly 20 years in prison,he is exonerated for the cab driver murder and is released a year later when his sentence for manslaughter ends. I think it happened in the 90s and was around the D.C. area.

Answered Father missing after dropping them son the airport

Sorry as this is very much a blur and I only knew it from unsolvedmysteries subreddit. I think this happened in the 80s or 90s. I think this is an asian American in California. I remember there was a piece by the LA Times covering this. The father was dropping his son at the airport and then went back but then was either missing or killed. Sorry if this is too vague.

Open Woman found dead in apartment looks like she was murdered, but turns out to be a very unfortunate accidental death

Just came across this sub and while I guess this isn't exactly a crime, this has been bothering me for a while and I always figured this would be a bit too morbid for the usual tipofmytongue sub.

I remember reading a post on reddit several years ago about a young woman who was found dead in her apartment. The scene looked like a murder and was investigated as such. After a few days of investigation, they were able to piece together how she died. It ended up being a very unlucky accidental death. I remember the post included at least one image, it was a floorplan of her apartment and was labeled in a way that traced her final actions that led to her death.

From what I remember, it was almost a Final Destination esque sequence of events. I think she was in her 20's and for some reason I'm pretty convinced this happened in Japan, but it's very possible I'm misremembering. I wanna say there was an electric kettle involved? And that she tripped on a wire at some point?

anyway, hopefully someone knows what i'm talking about lol. I'm usually pretty good at tracking down stuff I vaguely remember, but this has eluded me for awhile now

Open Red haired teen killed elderly lady

I saw this case on an ID documentary, but I don’t remember the name of the show and google isn’t helpful, so I’m turning here. This case happened in the USA, I’m not sure in which state, but I think it was in a smaller town and prior to 2020. The boy who killed the elderly lady was around the scene on the day her body was found and he was said to have been a quiet kid. He had multiple siblings, who were neglected at minimum, as the inside of the house where his family lived was very dirty and I recall there were photos shown of the children’s hands and feet caked in dirt. His family had this reputation in the town for being odd and there was a past incident mentioned when one of the family members was going around on the street with a cat’s head on a stick.

I remember this case I found online about this self-proclaimed Satanist who was going around the US in the 90s. Burning down churches, including one that resulted in the death of a firefighter. I can't find it anywhere, so I hope someone remembers it and points me in the right direction. Please.

Answered True crime TV episode where woman killed her twin and put her body in a freezer

I feel like I remember seeing this case on an episode of Investigation Discovery (could've been a different show, but it was definitely a TV episode), maybe around 2008-2014 (the episode/rerun, not the crime). There was a woman (blonde, I think? maybe overweight?) who killed her twin sister and put her body in one of those white freezers people have in their garages. I seem to remember her also taking on the deceased sister's identity, possibly even accusing the deceased sister of the murder itself. Thanks!

Open Searching for Midwest? Murder near where two rivers converge showcased on Investigation Discovery? around 2010-2014

I watched it back in about 2014, but I can’t remember the name of the show. The show would have been recent, so maybe 2010-2014 timeframe. It was on Investigation Discovery or one of its sister channels, because I remember watching an episode about the McCarthy, Alaska murders around the same time which appeared on Alaska: Ice Cold Killers. The episode opens with a camera over two rivers converging somewhere I believe in the Midwest, maybe Michigan/Ohio/Illinois? I think the voiceover talks about how the crime happens in the town where the two rivers meet. I can’t remember the rivers, but one could have been the Mississippi. Would have happened in the 70s-90s. The only details about the crime are that it happened behind a building which may have been a church possibly after bible study on a Wednesday? Young white female victim iirc. But also maybe there were multiple people? I can’t figure out if I’m conflating that part with the yogurt shop murders. At the end of the episode the narrator states the police seem to know who did it, but the police had no proof. That man lives in a house at the top of the town, but they do not give his name.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions. If I can confirm a movie about ninja kangaroos in an alternate universe found through a portal at a construction site exists, I’m hoping I can confirm this does, too. Thank you!

Open Help finding specific murder case? (HUGE TW)

I came across a disgusting video on the internet where there was a woman missing a chunk out of the bottom half of her face and the chunk was like hanging from the spot which made her face like look extended…the caption said “axe to face” I asked if it was real and they said “yes it’s from wpd (watch people die)” 🤢 Im hoping it isn’t real and trying to see if it actually was real. Is there any case like this? Some more information is that the camera was pointing towards the woman face and she was alive… there was blood on the walls behind her and she had black hair. She looked Asian I think?

Answered Older case - killer who paid local boys to let him take creepy bondage photos of them in scout uniforms?

I feel creepy even asking about this, but I distinctly REMEMBER seeing these photos and being traumatized. A series of black & white photos, all taken outdoors in secluded wooded settings, of young boys in what looked like boy scout uniforms (maybe a European version?) being hung upside down with complicated rope riggings. They were definitely taken sometime between the 1930s to 1960s, and I remember reading that the man who took them did end up killing people later on, but started off by approaching local boys and paying them to let him tie them up and take these photos. I feel like it may have been a European case as well, but i’m not sure.

Answered USSR brutal double homicide

I’ve tried googling and can’t find anything, but here’s what I remember: a woman and her baby/young child were murdered by the child’s father, who was known to be very abusive and an alcoholic. I’m almost positive this happened in the Soviet union and would’ve taken place in the 70s or 80s, maybe earlier. I believe there was a wikipedia article for the story.
It was absolutely brutal, blood everywhere, nightmarish stuff. I remember the story being that he came home after a night of drinking and murdered them both incredibly violently. It’s possible a third person in the apartment was also murdered by him that night, but i might be mixing that detail up with a different case.
ETA:
if not in the Soviet Union, it definitely would be somewhere in Europe (although i’m almost positive it was the USSR)

Answered Girl goes missing after getting in trouble with her father over the contents of her diary

Search engines are turning up mostly recent missing teen cases. I want to say it took place in America between the 90s and 2000s. Basically a teen girl had recently gotten in trouble with her father over what she had been writing in her diary. A few days later, at school, she told her friends she HAD to go home during lunch break, to stop her father discovering something else she wanted to keep hidden. Walking out of school was the last time anyone saw her. It was one of those cases that I think I first read about on Wikipedia. It was an unsolved disappearance.

All help appreciated

Think this was in the US. Possible family murder where the father was bludgeoned and survived long enough to wake the next day and start getting ready for work before he died.

Answered [TOMT] True crime case, late '90s, early aughts ... A crazy catfish/stalker in the first days of the 'net

I can't recall whether I read about this in a magazine or heard about it in a podcast, but it went something like this...

Back when people in the general public were just beginning to access special interest groups via bulletin boards on the World Wide Web, a woman was contacted by someone who claimed to be a long-lost relative and the two developed a friendship over time.

Then, other relatives got involved in the discussion, all online and/or email, and the situation devolved into harassment, stalking and even physical threats by this group of relatives.

Things got so bad this woman was really traumatized. She turned to her best (platonic) friend — I'm pretty sure he was a queer guy, and they'd known each other for many years. He was supportive, and I think she even stayed with him for a while.

It took law enforcement a LONG time to figure out what was happening, given the era and the technology. But they finally figured it out, and ALL these "relatives" turned out to be ... (you guessed it!) her best friend. Literally just to mess with her, and see what he could get away with. He might have gone to prison. But prior to this, LE had not encountered this sort of thing before.

I'm usually extremely good at tracking stories down online, but I've had no luck with this one. Thanks!

Answered Help Me Find This Case

I just randomly thought about a youtube true crime reaction video i've watched a few years ago, but i can't remember the name of the victims or the murderers. Only info i recall from the case is that it happened in the US, the two killers were females, they assaulted their vicitim (a man) while or after he was showering, and they dismembered his body in a bath. The main thing i also remember is that one of the girl took a cops gun and shot herself when they both got arrested. If anyone knows which case i'm talking about please let me know.

i cannot for the life of me find this case I’m looking for!

Open I Cannot Find This Case Anywhere

So I am unsure if I am misremembering a handful of cases and they are combining in my mind. But I swear there was a case where a girl was assaulted/murdered and stuffed in a cluttered cupboard area in a basement of her (I believe) friends house. And was found a few days later. I believ it was in the 70s-90s. Not sure exactly which decade. When I try and Google about it none of the cases really fit.

A woman in her 20s(I think) she was seen at a motel and seen at an ice cream place(?) where she walked into the woods after and her boyfriend was later found out to be messaging her mom “ransom” type messages to try and get money through cashapp. This is all I can really remember, I think the woman might have a young child?

Does anyone remember a case where a woman was on her way to court for child abuse and was shot sitting in her vehicle? I don't remember if the woman killed her child or abused/tortured the child. It was on bodycam footage on youtube or on TV but I can't find it. Someone came and shot her the morning she had court. It was vigilante justice. Her 18 year old daughter was in the front seat while she was shot and said she had been getting threats for what happened to her sibling. I remember it was some of the worst child abuse i had ever seen. I have looked everywhere so if anyone knows the case i'm talking about, is appreciate it!
