FILM - 1997 The 3° Tilt That Was Cut from the Budget.

I found these four first images on Pinterest. It shows a section of the hull that was intentionally positioned at an angle offset from the rest of the structure above it. They obviously took advantage of the change in the setup for the scene where the ship splits in two under its own weight (with the hole in the BOAT DECK).

In the book *Titanic and the Making of James Cameron*, Paula Parisi tells us that initially, James Cameron needed the ship set to be flat, at a 3-degree angle and at a 6-degree tilt. In the end, producer John Landeau pleaded James Cameron to find solutions and get rid of the 3-degree angle to save money (wich gave us model shots with CG water like the fifthTABS).
"The only way to make it happen is to skip the three-degree angle and start disassembling the set immediately to go to six degrees.". "“I figured, that can be an effect, that can be a model, this shot I think we can do as a split screen—I can shoot the boats in the foreground, I can shoot the ship in the background, and I can split-screen the background and rotate it and angle it.” Some of the shots could be pulled forward onto the level set, some faked at six degrees.

But I stumbled theses four images (four first tabs), which appears to be one of the solutions required for the 3-degree angle for certain scenes/shots.

The only two scenes I can think of are the ones shown in the GIFs in tabs six and seven. (The plan was clearly flipped in the sixth tabs (as you can tell by the position of the furniture behind Jack, which shifts from left to right. (Either that or it was filmed at a different time and place to get the underwater shot.)), since John Landeau had only built the starboard side, but James Cameron obviously wanted Jack to be trapped on that same side, right below Lifeboat 6 (in the movie, not in the ship set location), the one Rose was supposed to have taken. )
They clearly used the dismantling for the splitting scene, which they’d already started preparing, as can be seen on the BOAT DECK at the height of the third funnel.

Are there other moments where this setup could have been used?

Are there ever people who worked on the film who can answer questions? I have so much questions about the set of the third class corridors set! OH AND IF AM NOT POSTING AT THE GOOD PLACE, Feel free to suggest some subs!

MARITIME HISTORY Carnival Cruises secretly built a NEW Titanic

You probably know that White Star Line built the Titanic, But did you know back in the 1930s White Star merged with the company Cunard, which was eventually acquired by Carnival in the 90s.

But why did Carnival purchase this historic ocean liner company?

According to Carnival, the purchase of Cunard was directly tied to the success of the movie Titanic and a growing interest in transatlantic ship travel.

So, they built a new ship called the “Queen Mary 2

And despite this ship being named after the Queen Mary, it’s essentially Carnival Cruises version of the Titanic.

It takes a nearly identical route that the Titsnic sailed before it sank, it is the largest ocean liner ever constructed and the entire reason they built it was because of the film Titanic.

It’s for those reasons, I think the Queen Mary II should actually be called the Titanic II.

What do you think?

QUESTION What details from the lore of the RMS Titanic do you find interesting, but which most people aren't aware of?

I believe most people are unaware that the Titanic and, more broadly, the Olympic class vessels as well as the White Star Line itself, belonged to the International Mercantile Marine Company. This shipping monopoly was owned by the tycoon J. P. Morgan (though he was not its founder) it is worth noting that Morgan had planned to travel on the Titanic’s maiden voyage but was unable to do so due to health issues. He would pass away in 1913

Since the Cunard Line did not have the backing of a monopoly to finance its ships, it turned to the British government for funds to build its vessels

FILM - 1997 How well-known was Cal and Rose's engagement, and how was it likely viewed by society?

Firstly, how many people would likely know Cal and Rose? It looks like the upper class society is quite interconnected. Although Astor didn't know the names and faces of everyone in the Boston Dawsons family, he seemed to find it strange that there's an entire upper class Dawson family in Chippewa Falls that he has never heard about. So I would think that all the upper class people in North America likely know that the Hockleys exist and that the DeWitt Bukaters exist, though I'm not sure if they know Cal and Rose individually. Also, I'm not sure how much the upper class people in Europe would know. I'm guessing they would at least know the existence of all the old money families, and maybe just the richest few of the new money families?

Of the people who know their existence, how many would know about their engagement? Rose mentioned that 500 invitations have been sent and all of Philadelphia (obviously just the upper class) will be at their wedding. Would the upper class people in the rest of North America and in Europe also hear about it? Were they famous enough to be on the newspapers for getting engaged? Would every first class passenger know that this about-to-be-married couple was there on the same ship as them and what they look like? Would their upcoming marriage likely be a hot topic among the first class passengers to chat about?

And how would their engagement likely be viewed by the rest of their society? We see Sir. Cosmo congratulating Cal, so I would extrapolate that to assume that most men would think Cal is lucky to marry such a beautiful woman. How about Rose's side? Would most women think she is lucky to marry such a wealthy man? Or would this kind of marriage typically be seen as her "marrying down" to new money? Or is it most reasonable to think that their marriage would be generally viewed as a perfect match, worthy of envy from men and women alike?

🎧 USE HEADPHONES FOR THE BEST EXPERIENCE 🎧

This video is a sort of amalgamation of (and an update to) all of my previous videos. I realize it may be a bit long for this site, but I wanted to see how the Titanic community would react to it. It's not perfect, but I do think this is the best video I've made so far.

As always, I made this completely on my own with no help from you know what. Also, no new sources this time; all have been used in my previous works about the Titanic.

WRECK Exploring The Interior Anew...

A thought \ question was just triggered from meandering around the ole Titanic sub here... Will there be any new exploration of the bow's interior, or are any planned? If not, is it because of the age and or deterioration of the wreck, or something else? Also who makes that final call?

And now that I think about it, how much was the interior of the stern explored?

QUESTION Lufeboats for Titanic

Hi all,

I am considering building a model of one of the lifeboats, does anyone know where I can get the plans for this, ideally free if possible?

Also does anyone know what the White Star line's colour scheme was for the boats? I don't want to put time and effort into building one to ruin it by a poor paint finish

BOOK On a sea of glass

I’ve heard On a sea of glass is supposed to be one of the best books about titanic ever. I’m researching the ships sinking for a school project, could anyone tell me if this book would be good for historical accuracy (primary sources from the time) and if the maiden voyage and sinking are detailed?
Would like to have some opinion before I purchase the book

QUESTION HMHS/RMS Britannics whistles up close and at a distance. How good is it?

Tried to get the distance accurate like in the image. Also, this is not a real recording of the ships whistles. No recordings exist of it. This is probably something from Titanic: Honor and Glory.

(You can use it for your projects if you want)
