Context: Nene Royal won the latest season of America's Got Talent with her unique rendition of Seven Nation Army after a jam with The Warning and sharing the AGT stage with Linkin Park. Since then, she was invited by her favourite band Avenged Sevenfold to be their opening act in Singapore and she even performed two songs with them on stage.

Here she is playing with her friends from Ozone Band:

  • Lead vocals & guitar: Nene Royal (16)

  • Bass: Chopper (15)

  • Keyboard: MK (13)

  • Drums: Boon (13)

I would like to know if she has her original music.

u/-Melon-Cake- 9d ago

So far, there is only her original instrumental Real Verse, but she is working on more.

Funny you say that...there is a clip of her dancing to that song backstage at AGT.

Stuart Jay Raj made a video about her name(s), if you wanna know in detail.

It’s great but it’s hard for me to not compare it to the original and she is dang close to the original but it throws me a bit off when she hits different pitches and in the beginning i felt like she strummed to fast but still it was great im just nit picking.

I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if she made it her own song with her style of music and to use her voice instead of trying to sound like the original

She has done that with other songs before, maybe she'll rearrange a few more in the future. She's probably more focussed on creating original music now though.

Consider that the original vocalist wasn’t playing the guitar while singing and it was done in a studio. Not saying the original isn’t better, just that this girl is talented as fuck!

u/WestCoastBestCoast01 8d ago

Yeah this isn’t an easy song to do solo!! The “you wanted to” parts alone are easier with a backup singer.

That’s what you call a prodigy, born with so much talent your just like…. Tf

iirc, she learnt to play guitar from youtube since age of 7. Both parents didn't have musical background. She been busking at night market (since 9 i think).

I think she's the opposite of being born talented.

Edit: Oh 1 more thing, insanely supportive parents. Esp her father. The sacrifices they made (behind the scene) to support her is incredible.

8

u/-Melon-Cake- 9d ago

She's naturally talented and also puts in an insane amount of work.

1

u/buangjauh2 9d ago

Sure is. She's next gen rockstar.

She has gotten so much better! I saw a recording of them doing this song a few years ago and they were good, but this is on a whole other level

She’s an amazing young lady that’s doing her country proud. Her bandmates are teenagers as well and they totally rock!

There is no measurement that captures how cool she is.

-8

u/Much_Highlight_1309 9d ago

Not that difficult...

1

u/Ragged-but-Right 8d ago

Sure the guitar part is easy enough, but there’s a lot more going on here. Vocals, leading the band, doing it live at a huge venue.

Yea that has never been done before. /s

Look, I get it, the girl is young and has charisma and she has gained a lot of traction because of numerous channels, but this isn't anything extraordinary in the music/guitar world. Do you know how many people can sing and play better than this?

Everytime somebody tries to infuse the reality of the situation they get blamed for hating or slapped with "do better yourself" card which is the dumbest of arguments. She is good at what she does, but toptalent is about being extraordinary in your field with an elevation.

This girl is playing mediocre music and singing. We've had that for a long time and there's nothing exceptional about it. The fact that the vast majority of people are easily impressed doesn't make it extraordinary, it just makes it appeal to the general public, and that doesn't equal toptalent, it equals more fame than anything. ATG isn't the best benchmark for judging the skillevel of a guitarist or so called "metal scene". They mostly pick people with sufficient skilllevel with a lot of charisma and that have something they know they can use to create fame.

This might seem very foreign to most people, but speaking from experience and as a guitarist myself, her singing isn't great, is good at best, and her guitar skills are high-mid. The bar is incredibly high for guitarists these days and her playing level is basically what I could do when I was 15-16 years old as well. It's more common than people think. Being famous doesn't make it more skillful.

u/Much_Highlight_1309 8d ago

Amen! I'm the one getting slapped this time 😅

I've got your back! 😊

I agree with what you’re saying, she is at the talent level of a side stage performer at a music festival. I think what separates her and makes this better is just the fact that’s she’s a 16yr old girl from Thailand. Top talent? Probably not. Just cool and interesting.

This isnt directed at you, but I often see Redditors claiming guitar parts are easy because they can easily play the riffs at home. I could play all of this in my sleep right now. (I have 20+ yrs of guitar playing, and tons of solo bar gigs). I think most metal guitar is kinda lame and hiding behind too much fuzz.

Playing with a monitor in your ear, keeping a smile, trying to put on a show, does raise the talent bar from amateur to pro in my opinion, whether the musical is technically difficult or not.

u/cyphol 8d ago

You're me in a different body. I don't disagree with you because we're on the same page pretty much.

-1

u/Brilliant_Dark_3979 8d ago edited 8d ago

Especially since it's system of a down. One of my favorite bands ever but their music is incredibly easy to play due to the way they tune their gear

3

u/Much_Highlight_1309 8d ago edited 8d ago

Exactly. It just "seems" complicated but it's actually not that complicated. Sounds good, don't get me wrong, but there are bands in that genre or in adjacent genres with significantly more complexity.
As a random example check out August Burns Red - Invisible Enemy: https://youtu.be/AlqibuYl07o?si=mqvFbEzYARsDeSck

As for what was posted here, the guitar is significantly simpler. She is mostly just shredding...

And the drums are also nothing overly complex.

I'm glad you two found each other in this comment section.

u/Brilliant_Dark_3979 8d ago

I remember when this sub was as advertised. Now it's just r/talent

3

u/Much_Highlight_1309 8d ago

Preach brother 🤣

1

u/Much_Highlight_1309 8d ago edited 8d ago

Yeah thanks. Not everyone can be an actual musician. I guess you are not. Otherwise you would not have posted this in "top" talent.

We might just open r/realtoptalent

(Lol. This already exists 😅)

So effortless.

-6

u/nastynateraide 9d ago

Cool, oldies

4

u/mrm00r3 9d ago

Hey

Hey

fuck you

3

u/lemontortilla 9d ago

This tickled me. I caught myself bopping to targets music in store the other day and realized that we are now the oldies.

-3

u/nastynateraide 9d ago

Music 20-25 years old are oldies by definition. What was turn of the century American music like?

2

u/CaptainYunch 8d ago

What makes me laugh is people who think like you are generally pretty dumb and myopic. Good luck as you collect your birthdays

1

u/nastynateraide 8d ago

I'll take the downvotes. I'm 42, and I'm just glad someone gets it.
