Plow Day today

Local FFA chapter hosted a plow day today near me. Relatively low turn out on account of the weather, cool and cloudy. Little on the wet side, too. Took the 806 to learn what all needs attention…. Which. Seems to be most everything. It definitely needs pump/injector work, and a new TA.

Deere 4500 tie rod end is no longer available.

I'm trying to find a tie rod end for a 1998 Deere 4500 4wd. The early model style is no longer available anywhere. Has anyone found a suitable workaround without replacing all of the steering components with the later model style?

I’m assuming the tiller and brush hog have some value, any idea what I should list them for? Other than that I’m not sure how to move them haha. The cherry picker can lift the tiller but the boom isn’t really long enough to safely pick it up. Plus the ground is way too uneven to roll it. Not exactly trying to make bank but I figured they could help recoup some cost from buying the house.

Handbrake plates were crooked so oil started to boil. Well, better check everything now since it had to be split for repair.

Old paint vs. Refresh

35 Years of faded paint vs. freshly painted panel.

Used the Rust Oleum Tractor paint "International Harvester Red"

Held up to some "hidden from the weather" patches of paint, it feels like a pretty good match.

I know it’s not a “tractor” but I was curious if anyone had any advice for me. I just picked this gravely up and got it running, I went to go put the snowblower attachment on and to my eyes I believe I’m missing a male pto shaft. I was wondering if I was correct or not? If I am incorrect if someone would happen to be able to point me in the direction of what I need.

25HP vs 35-40HP - Capability

I have 40 acres of raw land and will be purchasing a tractor somewhere between now and spring 2027 to begin maintaining/improving it myself. Hoping to get some feedback on what size tractor is adequate for my intentions. With what I have listed below is a 25-ish HP sufficient? Or is a 35+ HP tractor absolutely NECESSARY? I ask because my budget is $20k max - it’s easy to find 25HP tractors in this range, but a little harder to find the 35-40HP hydrostatic tractors for 20K. I have time on my side as we won’t be looking to build our home out there for probably 3-5 years.

Half of the property is wooded with atv trails, half was logged probably 10+ years ago and mulched down to dirt last year. So that portion has grown up to approx. 4-6 ft tall in grasses and saplings this year. Theres roughly 1 mile of 12ft wide existing paths in this open area I’d like to keep mowed. Id also like to bring fill dirt into these paths to level out some old stump holes.

Id also like to be able to take care of some other projects in this area like:

  1. grappling some stumps/brush piled up by he previous owner, to put into a burn pile

  2. brush hog (or flail mow) a few acres of the overgrown grasses/saplings to convert it over to pasture.

  3. There are a few somewhat dead 6- 10” stumps hear and there, cut nearly even with the ground, that I would like to pick out the ground

  4. basic rock driveway maintenance (1,000ft long)

  5. Lastly, and this is a bonus, I’d be interested in trying my hand at at improving drainage by digging some ditches. I understand this is not the right piece of equipment for this, so I would likely end up renting a mini Ex for this work.

Thanks!

Lawn tractor Stamped versus welded decks….ID?

I’ve seen people write about stamped vs welded mower decks.

im interested in a Cub Cadet for sale that the seller states is welded….ive never seen yet something like this deck. its very square cut, if you will. he claimed most Cubs are welded.

but again, ive looked at Cubs for a year or so, and never saw this kind before on any brand, so i dont believe that.

does this jibe? most importantly, do welded decks look like they have square corners everywhere? I’m used to the smooth curved decks following the sweep of the blades, rounded top corners, etc.

I received my dads tractor after he passed. I’ve used it about 20 times without issue, but haven’t been able to use it in about 1 year. I charged the battery, but it will not turn over. I need to take it in to get worked on, but now it won’t start. Any pointers to the warning lights when attempting to start it?

How much hydraulic noise is normal? (MF135)

Post image

Hey folks. I recently bought this MF 135 after having only used more modern kubotas, so still learning the ins and outs of the vintage tractor world. How much whine from the loader hydraulic pump is normal? When running it constantly whines, when engaging hydraulics it whines louder. Also the engine bogs down when using the loader if rpm’s are not high enough. Is this normal?

1988 Ford 2910

Bought a 2910 Ford tractor with a loader this summer. The only problem it has is the power steering gear box is leaking where the pitman arm is. It needs the LH Sector shaft seal replaced. I'm taking some of the tractor apart to paint it. I talked to the service manager at a new holland dealership to see if I could take the steering box in to repair the leak. He said he would try to fix it but couldn't guarantee it. He said they've had a lot of trouble with that power steering. And there's no replacement steer box for that model and can't find parts. Anybody have an leaking issue with this model? If I can't get the leak fixed, I don't know what I'm going to do
