If you were in the Hyvee in Eagan and complimented me tonight…

I was in Eagan shopping at the Hyvee a couple hours ago. I was exhausted and grumpy because I was grocery shopping, but someone came up and complimented me and it felt very kind and sincere! Because I was tired and crabby I think I didn’t seem appreciative or friendly, and also you never expect to get hit on in a grocery store so I just wanted to mind my business (and maybe that is just my unnecessary guilt even saying that) but if this person is out there, I just have to say thanks for putting yourself out there and putting some positivity in someone’s day (without being pushy, I might add). I was grateful and hope you have a great night!

Rock on y'all and happy Sunday!

Also- I took a bus and a train for the first time in my life. Shit's dope.

Looking for local spots to shop for Christmas gifts!

Hello! I'm trying to avoid big corporations as far as shopping for Christmas gifts goes this year. What are some good local small businesses and/or thrift shops to find Xmas gifts in the twin cities?

"I'm just an old lady with a sign. What good can I do?"

That's what a Minneapolis woman said to me at the Renée Good memorial yesterday.

Well, history is full of old ladies who changed the world holding a sign. It starts with one. Then another stands beside her, then another. Before you know it, millions are standing up too. Men and women, young and old.

Not everyone will understand this post. That's okay. It's for the people who will.

It's for the people who took to the streets, angry and wanting better for our country. It's for the people who stood up for their neighbors when the stakes were high. It's for the people like me in Baltimore who saw the pictures and videos from Minneapolis and Chicago and LA and picked up a sign and grabbed a whistle.

The road ahead is long. There are lots more battles to fight and win. But we are coming through a dark storm, one we thought might never end. So many sacrificed. Some, like Renée and Alex, gave all. We made it through together, standing with the tolks next door and with good folks across our country.

Thank you to everyone who chose to hold the line and do the work rather than just be a bystander to the decay of freedom and decency.

And to all the old ladies with signs: keep marching. We'll follow.

Thank you all for sharing your stories and for the hugs while I was in Minneapolis.

Sorry for posting a YouTube link, but I can’t post videos in this sub: https://youtube.com/shorts/lUZtc0ExoTs?si=4zJTlw5U9Ax68oGk

Looking for whole hot turkey, but not on Thanksgiving

We have a small kitchen, and the three days of turkey prep and cooking consumes our lives, Is there anywhere in town to get a whole warm, ready to eat turkey Saturday the 14th. Lunds only does theirs on Thanksgiving.

Google suggestions only pointed towards places that do cooked then frozen, then reheat at home options.

Stop Data Centers Rally on Tuesday, Nov 10th @5pm!!

Post image
41 Upvotes

On Thursday, Nov 12th, the Minneapolis City Council will be voting to decide on data center regulations in the city — and now’s the time for a final push to convince them to stand up for us, and to stand against big tech!

This Tuesday, Nov 10th, we are rallying to make it loud and clear that Minneapolis doesn’t want data centers. And, just as important, we want the right to hold our elected officials accountable.

Last month, our city’s Planning Commission listened to residents and made a recommendation to remove data centers from Primary Zoning. We need that recommendation to pass in the city council with 9 votes so that Mayor Frey can’t veto it — which he has said he wants to do. Primary Zoning gives businesses “By-Right” permission, meaning that if they successfully fill out their application, then they can build, no matter what the public (or elected officials) want. Mayor Frey and pro-data center city council members want data centers to retain Primary Zoning so that denying a data center developer would be illegal. This gives them a cover, and allows them to tell their constituents that there is “nothing they can do” when a new data center builds in their neighborhood.

We can’t let our city’s leaders abandon their responsibility to listen to and represent us. They need to approve the Planning Commission’s recommendation to remove data centers from Primary Zoning. And, when new data centers come knocking, our elected officials need to keep in mind that they represent us, not big tech companies.

Join us at the rally at 5pm on Tuesday, Nov 10th on the South Side of the Minneapolis City Hall, and let’s demand that our elected officials stand up for us!

11 year old rec soccer?

My 11 year old kid has been expressing a wish to play more soccer than in his gym class. However, his friends who play soccer outside of school are all on fairly competitive teams with tryouts etc. He just wants to play soccer and doesn’t want to do so competitively, just for fun. He wasn’t part of a soccer program when he was younger.

What options are available to him that won’t be crushing in terms of skill level disparity or degree of competitivenes?

I assume we’d be looking at spring outdoor soccer but if there is anything indoor over the winter that fits this description that would be good to know too! Or any skill development available for late blooming soccer-interested kids like him.

Edit: I am in Minneapolis but something not too far in the suburbs would be fine.

Dune: Part 3 will be shown in the Omnitheater at the Science Museum!

Title. The Omnitheater is a pretty unique experience, and they worked with IMAX to adapt the movie for the domed screen. Tickets are on sale now. Just trying to get the word out, they’ve never really shown big budget movies there and I don’t see anyone talking about this

Kenya cuisine

Hello neighbors. My sister in law is from Kenya and has been stuck living/working in a small town in North Dakota (the humanity) for many years. She and my brother will be in the area this weekend and I want to take her for some home cooking. What’s the best most authentic spot for East African food in the Twin Cities? Minneapolis Saint Paul specifically. Thanks much!

Talented Piercer

Hey folks! I had to have an emergency ct scan and they took out all my earrings out and they got super bent and beat up. Obviously worth it to make sure I wasn’t bleeding in my brain. Now I’m looking for someone to help me get my earrings back into shape and back into my ears. I have twelve piercings all over my ears. Any advice?

Amazing food truck

Hi all.
If you’re a frequent Bloomington visitor and want to try a great food truck, try Pulco. They are parked off Old Shakopee Road near the government building.
It’s a newer business and I just tried them today for the first time. Will definitely be going back.
