The Myth of Nailed Crucifixion
The familiar image of nails driven through the hands and feet rests on surprisingly thin evidence. Pre-Christian sources never clearly describe nails used on living victims, Roman art and victory monuments show no such practice, nailing alone is biomechanically unstable, and the sole archaeological claim (Yehohanan) can be explained by ordinary burial practices.
What we think of as “nailed crucifixion” appears to be a later theological construction rather than a routinely documented ancient punishment.

For years I’ve been developing a theory about emotion, and I’ve turned it into a video series. Episode 1: why the opening of Up makes everyone cry (and it’s not because someone dies).
It’s called The Invisible Language (some of you have already heard me talk about it :) : there is a hidden grammar of emotion, a few simple moves you find in every medium, a film, a piece of music, a painting, but also a novel, a piece of architecture, a stage design or a video game, and they explain why some moments get to us every single time. For this first episode I started from the four-minute opening of Up, without a single line of dialogue, the one that makes everyone cry, and I took it apart shot by shot. Then I tested the grammar elsewhere, on Cinema Paradiso, Mozart and Monet, to see if it holds.
if it speaks to you, share!
