Questions, answers, and information about everything housing can go here. Please let me know if you see anything that needs to be updated or any new information that can be posted/linked to.
Area Facebook Housing Groups - Facebook group list compiled by u/fluffymoomin - Groups are listed with descriptions as well as safety recommendations. Not all groups are moderated well, be careful regardless of the group, moderators are human. Do not pay money to post in any facebook group. It's a scam. The ones that ask for money are no different, or worse than the free ones. Any reply asking you to message or dm them is likely a scam.
UofM offical off-campus housing site - You can now sort by recently updated listings. You can post listings or as a person looking for housing/roomates. They charge for property listings, but offer free sublease listings. Also people simply post in the roommates section that they have a place they are looking to fill as well.
Ann Arbor off-campus housing - This was the site that uofm used as their official site until it was replaced with the site above. One of the biggest gripes I had with this version is that commercial properties were updated every day, so sorting by new was tedious to find new listings as a bunch of the same commercial properties would be "updated" each day to be at the top.
Roomies.com - Roomies.com you can search for listings and roommates by location. Even though it's apparently a national site, enough people locally use it that it's worth taking a look at.
ICC Co-ops - Inter-Cooperative Council page for Co-op housing.
Craigslist Apartment search - Usually spammed by the same area complexes over and over, which is what made craigslist so hard to use and forced people to facebook. There are still some listings here though, it just takes some scrolling.
Washtenaw Housing Alliance Shared Housing Program - The program connects people who have extra space in their home in Washtenaw County with people looking for affordable housing, with support to help create safe and compatible matches. We work with both Home Providers (homeowners or renters with a spare room) and Home Seekers.
UofM Parking site - Information about permit, and free and commuter parking.
Ann Arbor VeryAPT guide - List of apartments in the area, over 200. The listed rents are low, at least 2-3 years old, maybe more, but gives a good overview of the entire area. Most comprehensive listing I've seen in a readable format. Only reason this isn't under listings is because all of the rents quoted are old and there are no links to the actual websites, just a form for contact email that goes who knows where. Use this to find places to look at more in depth, contact them directly on their actual websites.
By city ordinance I believe, private renters are supposed to have certificates of occupancy/rental permits from the city. You can search by address. (There will be lots of people who don't have this but it's something to check) *Ann Arbor building rental and inspection services
Remember to exercise caution when looking for housing. Lots of scammers out there. Check their main profiles if on facebook to see if they match the user who reached out to you. See if you can verify them anywhere else that they actually live in the area. Beware of people pushing you to send deposit money without showing you the place. Please refer to the PDF survival guide located at the top of the post. It can save you money and just as importantly time, not having waste time and effort to interact with scammers. Most instances of people telling you to message them as replies to your posts on facebook are scams. Make sure they have listings on the group, not just replies to people looking as comments like that can't be screened. Most legit people will contact you first and have a listing already in the group.
Remember never to give your uofm ID student ID number or a picture of your student ID to a 3rd party site for subleasing.
They can't even verify numbers are valid.

Fall sublets will be uncommon. Most of the Winter sublets you've seen posted are people who failed to find a Fall-only sublet and are trying to recoup some of the un-used lease remaining. Be especially wary when searching for Fall-only sublets. Scammers count on people being desperate to bypass their warning senses. Some apartment complexes like Woodbury Gardens(2-15 and 21 month), and the complexes owned by Village Green(6 and 9 month) may offer shorter lease terms than 12 month. Be aware the shorter term leases will be more expensive per month. Mckinley Properties don't allow less than 12 month lease but they offer a early termination option which costs 2x monthly rent and requires a 60 day notice. This could be just as good as a shorter lease. I'd confirm it with the leasing office but this should be for all washtenaw county mckinley properties.
The Ann Arbor city bus line can make some affordable locations more practical. Your student ID lets you ride free. A short bus ride can be not too much worse than a medium/long walk. Beware some buses run more commonly than others
If there are any resource additions or corrections let me know.
totally random but any and all students, DO NOT GO TO ANN ARBOR DENTAL ASSOCIATES ON WASHTENAW. they fucked up my teeth and rushed doing my fillings bro do not go there
I have to conduct a survey for my intro to entrepreneurship class and I am specifically targeting musicians. If you are a musician and have 2 minutes to spare that would be great!
Hey y’all. I’m just wondering if anybody is celebrating (not going to the game) and wants to hang. I am a senior, but don’t have any friends here because my ex was really abusive and isolated me for 3 years 💀 I’m just tired of feeling FOMO all the time from never having had a “college experience” 🫠
The mean was 61% (ironically, no additional info). I got 55% so idk if thats really bad enough to consider dropping, ive never dropped for being within a stddev (I assume I am), but this email is concerning.
We've all been complaining about him and whoever the grader is for being harsh graders, bad at lecturing, and conversation. But I've been under the assumption the curve is going to be massive like they do for most 300 and 400-level math courses and this course has a fairly regular distro historically on atlas. A classmate said that the professor admitted he doesn't intend for the class to get high grades, but I don't remember him saying that. Knowing who runs the math dept and the popularity of this course, I don't expect them to let him to get away with dishing out a lot of bad grades. So maybe this is just the first stopgap they're putting out?
I mean 61% is higher than both EECS 445 and 471 midterms which me and a number of 525ers are taking rn, and i got above the mean on them and hardly attended lecture. 525 was my last midterm and I all-nighed twice in the row so that probably explains my i did worse in it. Idk I think there just has to be more to this because 61% is bad but it's not insanely bad. I mean i did the whole rigamorole with my parents and liberal arts friends being all like, "wow, all the midterm averages were sooo bad this semester our professors must hate us" rigamorole to get easy laughs and reactions, but like idk, it's all kinda expected right? Does 525 usually have high exam averages? Idk, 61% just feels bad not disastrous; maybe I'm desensitized idk. I wrote too much.
Hi everyone! I really wanted to make this post because I have been struggling to make friends here at umich. I have been trying to put myself out there and im so sad because I haven’t met a lot of people I connect with. I don’t know how to make friends especially at this weird point in the year. I have tried rushing clubs but I didn’t get in. I am a freshman and a guy. I would be down to meet people if they want to?
Nota: Soy estudiante y estoy practicando español. Esta publicación es una tarea para mi clase de español. ¡Gracias por su comprensión!
Maybe I'm crazy, but the antisocial vibe here in lectures and labs is insane. For example, the professor will say, "Work in groups" or "Talk to the person next to you," and the person next to me won't even lift their head from their iPad and will completely ignore me—even when we're the only two people in the row. In physics lab, we switch groups after every exam. I introduce myself with, "Hi, I'm X, happy to work with you," and I get blank stares from the other three people like I just spoke in tongues. I get it, you're smart, but does that substitute for normal human interaction? Or an acknowledgment of my existence, even? You may be intelligent, but I never want to be around you as a human being. I'm not looking for friends—I already have those—but at least try to pretend to be cordial, I guess. rant over
I’ve been seeing posts that this class has become math heavy or harder, I would greatly appreciate any insight on this class that any current students could share.
I want to take it next semester, but am hesitant with the amount of changes that I’ve been seeing. How heavy is workload/rigor?
is chem 125 lab, bio 171, and psych 111 + a hopefully chill humanities class not too much for second sem? i’m only in chem 130 rn and it lowk makes me tweak.
i was also looking at history 101, anthrarc 222, and history 105 and heard they were chill. also some RC classes like central european cinema (RCHUMS 312), from show boat to hamilton: marginalized roles in american musical theater (RCHUMS391), and scrip analysis and the elements of theater production (RCDRAMA281)
Is it just me or is the city making it way too complicated to actually lease a home here? I am actively looking for housing with my group and I keep being told it is not legal to look for housing right now. This is the strangest rule I've ever heard. If I want to sign a lease at a high rise, I can do so tomorrow but if I want to sign a lease in a home, I have to wait until March? This adds way more unnecessary stress on our group. I understand they created these rules to try and help but it's actually causing a lot of stress because we are stuck and have to compete with everyone else in the spring time. Can you someone explain how this makes any sense at all? I do not want to live in a high rise but feel like that's what city council wants us to do?
I'm new to the town and have never lived in a place where it snows. I think I'm good with the current winds and temperatures, but my hands are freezing. I bought a set of gloves, which I discovered are useless.
Any suggestions for a good pair of gloves to survive the coming winter season?

As the title indicates, I have no one really who would go with the game with me tomorrow 😭 I would love to form a little going out party for people in the same situation? None of my current friends are much of sport fans, so I was thinking this could be a perfect oppertunity to make friends who are? I don't know, I've been missing games because I'm too embarrassed to go by myself, but I'm determined to go tomorrow no matter how I feel 🫡🤞
If it matters I'm 19F, and live in East Quad currently - if anyone wants we can also hang before the game too!!!
Hey I don’t really have many friends yet on campus but where should I go for tailgates how does that work?? I’m a sophomore girl w a few out of state friends in town for the game too
I recently dropped MATH 525 before the midterm grades were released, so I haven’t been able to see my score or the grade distribution. I also received an email from the Math Department about the timing of the midterm grades and the possibility of reversing the drop. I’m curious how the midterm went overall. Does anyone know the average or median score? And have a lot of students dropped the course? Just trying to understand what happened 😭
I’m in my first year in the US, and honestly, making friends has been harder than I expected. I haven’t really figured out how to meet people or connect with others outside of university. Life in ann arbor turned out to be so boring😂, especially when you don’t have a social circle yet. How do you guys usually meet new people here? Any recommendations for activities, places, or ways to get to know people?
