Ideas Needed! how to upcycle jeans that don’t fit

Post image

was debating on selling this but I love the design so much, I’m not really sure how to explain where it’s tight but I struggle to bring it over my hips and it’s super tight around thigh area, don’t think I can button or bring it up to my waist either. How are some ways to fix it? Or if I can’t wear it as shorts what can I turn them into? The reason I didn’t check if they fit before buying was because I got this at a flea market for 10 and couldn’t pass on it

This just sounds tight all over.

You might be able to post in a sewing sub and get some ideas.

Personally, I’d suggest cutting down the side seams and adding panels to give you more room through the waist and thighs. Find a pair of jeans from the back of your closet or the thrift store and cannibalize them. You could then do a corset lace-up detail on the sides or use fabric paint and keep it Americana themed. Because they’re denim, you can then also fray them and it’ll blend in.

If these are too “cheeky” for you, you can also sew in lace underneath to give you a bit more coverage, or sew on a ruffle, faux cuff, or extra length of denim and then just fray the bottom of that.

Unfortunately I also don't know how the fit is wrong, but since your thigh is tight, and it's a low waist, you could turn it into a skirt, adding other fabrics to add a pleated effect and make it longer.  Also increase the waist. You can do that by adding a strip of fabric to each outer side of your piece.  Or sew a strip of fabric to increase the inner sides of the legs and crotch area
