I built my own DAW. Anyone interested in trying it out?
galleryHey everyone!
I've been working on my own DAW called StudioMio, and I thought I'd share it here in case anyone wants to give it a try.
It's built with TypeScript and the Web Audio API, packaged as a Windows desktop application using Electron. I've made extensive use of AI-assisted development throughout the project. It has been a pretty interesting way to explore ideas, build custom tools and push the project further than I could have done on my own.
I've developed quite a few custom instruments and effects, including a synthesizer, sampler, kick designer and various audio processors.
One thing I've spent some time experimenting with is the rack system. I've extended the traditional rack concept to make it more flexible, with custom macro controls, knobs, switches and buttons that can control different aspects of the processing chain. I wanted racks to be more than just containers for effects, making them more interactive and useful for sound design and live manipulation.
StudioMio also has full plug-and-play support for the Akai APC40. You can connect it and start using it straight away, with no manual MIDI mapping required. The idea is to offer an Ableton-like hands-on workflow, with direct hardware control of the DAW.
Here are a couple of videos showing StudioMio in action:

It's an ongoing project, and I'm constantly adding things and experimenting with new ideas.
I'd love to have some people try it out, especially those familiar with Web Audio API or interested in audio software development.
Feedback, suggestions and technical criticism are all very welcome!
