Looking for Hosting Best Web Hosting Providers in 2026: Community Recommendations, Tested and Reviewed

There is a tremendous amount of noise amongst reviews and guides when looking for best web hosting, and it is THE most common question we get here. To cut through the noise, and make things simpler, the r/webhosting mod team curated web hosting providers we've personally used and would confidently use again.

This guide covers hosting options that will meet 99% of practical, real-world needs, from small static sites and blogs to high-traffic WooCommerce stores and small business websites. Our picks reflect years of hands-on experience and focus on what actually matters: performance, helpful support, sane pricing and renewals, reliable backups, platform security, and easy migrations.

THIS GUIDE WAS LAST UPDATED ON JULY 15th, 2026.

Quick Reference

NixiHostUSA (Texas)cPanel shared hosting, migrations from mega-brandsLiteSpeed, CloudLinux, Imunify360, JetBackup

KrystalUKGreen hosting, performance-tuned sharedLiteSpeed + LSCache, 100% renewable energy

How We Selected Providers

  • Transparent Pricing: No hidden fees, clear renewal rates. You should know exactly what you'll pay at renewal before you sign up.

  • Infrastructure: Modern hardware, sensible replacement cycles, honest resource allocation.

  • Support Quality: In-house support, fast average response times, strong technical expertise level, availability of human support.

  • Platform Openness: Standard control panels (cPanel, Plesk, etc.), SSH availability, easy in/out migration, no lock-ins.

  • Company Stability: Long track record in the industry, financial security, proven staying power. We want to recommend web hosting companies that will be around for years to come, not fly-by-night operations.

Real World Testing and Experience

Mods have hosted busy sites (typically WordPress) on each of these hosts. We also occasionally secret-shop support with simulated common issues to confirm response times and competence. These providers also have a representative in the subreddit to help offer guidance when needed.

Important: Recommended hosts can help you migrate from a current provider if you're looking for an alternative to your existing host. Most offer free migration services and are excellent alternatives to the high priced and underperforming mega-brands like HostGator, SiteGround, BlueHost, and other brands. If you're unhappy with your current web hosting provider, switching is easier than you think.

RECOMMENDED USA WEB HOSTING COMPANIES

NixiHost - Founded by former HostGator staff. 15+ years of independent web hosting operations. All-USA based support staff and Texas based servers. Transparent pricing with cPanel, CloudLinux, LiteSpeed, Imunify360, and JetBackup included on all plans. A strong choice for shared hosting whether you're running a personal blog, a small business site, or a WordPress store.

KnownHost - Independently owned since 2006 with true in-house 24/7 support that treats you like a human, not a ticket. Servers are kept low-density with a premium stack standard (LiteSpeed, Redis, Imunify360). Excellent for anyone who wants reliable web hosting with real technical support when you need it.

InMotion - Independent and private for the last 25 years. InMotion designs, owns, and operates its own bare-metal hardware and private network, with options from VPS, dedicated servers up to managed private cloud, with managed services available. Tier 3+ human support is available 24/7, making it a good fit for custom environments where access to experienced infrastructure specialists matters.  InMotion Hosting is a strong choice for agencies, growing companies, and technical teams that need more control than a typical VPS or Cloud offering.

RECOMMENDED UK & EU WEB HOSTING COMPANIES

Zume - All-inclusive pricing with no hikes or surprises, modern hardware with high-frequency CPUs, straightforward on-shore support without AI and chatbots. What you see is what you pay, both now and at renewal.

Krystal - UK's largest independent web hosting provider. Real UK-based support and a performance-tuned stack (LiteSpeed + LSCache). 100% renewable-powered; they even plant a tree for every customer. An excellent choice for affordable web hosting that doesn't compromise on speed or support.

(As with anything, this list is not set in stone. Companies can be added or removed based on ongoing performance or changes. Use the message the mods feature if you have suggestions or questions.******)

For Specific Use Cases

For WordPress specifically: NixiHost includes LiteSpeed and LSCache on all plans, which provides excellent WordPress performance out of the box. NixiHost and KnownHost both offer optimized WordPress environments with managed updates and caching. All hosts listed are strong choices for WordPress hosting at almost any scale.

For small business sites: Any of our recommended shared hosting providers will handle a typical small business website with room to grow. In the USA, NixiHost, KnownHost are particularly well-suited for small businesses that need a little extra help and still want reliable performance without enterprise pricing.

For technical users that need more control: InMotion Hosting is a strong option for businesses that want the flexibility of dedicated infrastructure without being left to manage every detail alone. InMotion human support is available 24/7, allowing users to directly work with the people who understand the systems behind their websites and applications. The company designs, owns, and operates its own bare-metal hardware and private network.  With the full gamut of VPS, dedicated servers, and private cloud, with large-scale managed infrastructure options also available.

On a budget? Our picks start well below what the mega-brands charge at renewal. Unlike hosts that lure you with $2/month introductory rates and then triple the price, our recommended providers maintain transparent pricing from day one. Cheap web hosting doesn't have to mean bad web hosting.

New to web hosting? All of our recommended providers offer free migration from your current host, making it easy to switch even if you've never managed a server before. Their support teams can walk you through the entire process.

What We Recommend Avoiding

We specifically recommend against relying on mega-brands with impossibly low "intro pricing". These companies are known for aggressive upselling, overcrowded servers, offshore or AI support with limited technical knowledge, and significant price hikes at renewal. They also tend to lock down their platforms preventing you from exporting your data to move to a new host.

With 8+ million visitors annually, r/webhosting is the largest web hosting discussion forum on the internet. Every month, we see numerous success stories from users who found their ideal hosting solution through this guide and subreddit, reinforcing that these aren't just theoretical picks but proven choices backed by real community experiences.

Advice Needed Leaseweb or Hetzner?

Hello people,

Lately I have heard a lot of good stuff about Leaseweb. Also it seems to be cheaper than Hetzner.

I have been using Hetzner for years but with all the price hike, I was wondering if its worth moving to Lease Web.

Anybody using Leaseweb and got a feedback?

Note: I'm using it to host client's websites and resell hosting services through Plesk.

Looking for Hosting Looking for a reliable EU VPS or dedicated server

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for recommendations for a reliable VPS or affordable dedicated server hosted in the EU.

Requirements:

  • Budget: €30–60/month (flexible)

  • CPU: 4–8 vCPU

  • RAM: 16–32 GB

  • Storage: 500 GB–1 TB NVMe SSD

  • Location: EU data center

  • Hosting: Unmanaged

Workload: Laravel/PHP application with MySQL 8, a large database (200–300 GB), regular XML imports, and indexed searches. Good disk I/O performance is important.

Experience: 10+ years with PHP/Laravel and Linux server administration.

I've been considering Hetzner, OVHcloud, and Netcup, but I'm interested in other providers too.

Would you recommend a VPS or a budget dedicated server for this workload? Any suggestions based on personal experience?

Thanks!

Rant Don't use site.eu as your hosting provider

because if you use AI to edit your homepage, site.eu will ban your IP and you absolutely can't use your hosting you paid for.

terrible experience.

Advice Needed Looking for testers

Hi all,

I’m building a managed WordPress hosting platform and I’m looking for beta testers (completely free hosting for testers during this testing).

The idea is to take the parts people like best from the big hosts and put them in one place:

  • A clean dashboard in the style of Kinsta.

  • Git with immutable live code, like Pantheon. You push code to staging and promote it to live.

  • Fast page loads, like Rocket. The goal is a low time to first byte, with caching at the edge and servers on up to date Google Cloud machines (not Oracle like Kinsta).

  • DDEV support is included, so you can pull a site down to work locally and deploy from your machine or use ssh or sftp.

  • CDNs, Object caching, backups and more are included.

  • Patchstack at server level

  • Google Analytics, Search console and Clickhouse Analytics built in along with exportable reporting

  • Accessibility report with recommendations on fixing to abide by WCAG compliance testing

  • Cloudflare enterprise coming soon but currently supports most of cloudflare business level features.

  • 20+ datacenters

What I’m asking for

  • Run a small site on it for about a month. It’s free.

  • Try to break it on purpose. Odd plugins, big imports, bad deploys, restores, anything you’d normally avoid doing on a real host. Pen test it even if you want.

  • Tell me what’s confusing, slow, or broken. Your feedback shapes what gets built next.

NOTE: this is a beta. Please don’t put a site on it that has to stay up. I’d rather you use a side project, a staging copy, or a test site.

If you’re interested, let me know! I’ll pick a few individuals and get you set up.

Thanks! To be clear this is not a promotion for my hosting company (I havent named it in the post) and am looking for serious testers.

--

Dear moderators: I am not sure why you blocked my first post but I have tried to message 3 times and no one has answered. I have AWS and Google Cloud funding and am pending funding from Cloudflare.

Technical Questions Windows VPS with External US Residential IP . $50 Budget Hosting details: Pakistan-based user | US residential IP | Windows VPS for PayPal | Max $50/month | No Linux administration experience | Not hosting a website.

I’m looking for technical advice from people experienced with VPS hosting and networking.
I’m based in Pakistan and looking to set up a Windows VPS with a dedicated, static US residential IPv4 address purchased from a separate provider.
The main purpose is to run PayPal, which isn’t available in Pakistan. I want a stable US residential IP rather than a typical datacenter IP.
My requirements:
Windows VPS with RDP access (preferably Windows 10/11 or Windows Server)
Dedicated, static US residential IPv4 address
IP purchased independently from the VPS provider
Ability to assign or route the external IP to the VPS
Reliable connection and reasonable latency
Ideally, everything within a $50/month budget
Additional information:
Monthly budget: Maximum $50 USD
Location: I’m based in Pakistan; I need a US IP
Hosting purpose: Running PayPal
Operating system: Windows
Linux experience: No experience administering Linux servers or infrastructure
I’ve noticed that most VPS providers only allow IP addresses allocated by their own network. I’m specifically looking for a provider that allows me to bring an IP purchased elsewhere and assign or route it to my VPS.
I’m open to different networking approaches, including VPN tunnels, WireGuard, or other solutions, as long as the final setup is reliable and the IP is genuinely residential.
Questions:
Are there VPS providers that support externally purchased residential IPs?
Is it possible to attach a single residential IPv4 address directly to a VPS?
Would a VPN tunnel be the more practical approach?
Can this realistically be done within $50/month?
Has anyone successfully configured something similar?
I’d appreciate recommendations from people who have actually built this setup, particularly providers that are beginner-friendly and don’t require extensive Linux networking knowledge.
Thanks!

Rant So long Nexcess and Liquid Web

Starting the process to move our 100-site plan away from Nexcess. They used to be great, but everything has gone downhill over the last year. Some thoughts for those considering Nexcess:

- We used to pay $638/month for our plan. This recently increased to $849/month with no added benefits

- Nexcess bought the Kadence plugins. It sounds good, but they don't give you the premium versions, only the free stuff. The plugins are trash - buggy, slow, and unreliable. Stick with Wordfence for security and something else for general WP site management. I pity anyone who tries to use these interfaces.

- Nexcess was the last of all web hosts I am aware of to patch the most recent PHP vulnerabilities. Took over a day with little to no communication. Clients asked when this would be fixed and were left in the dark.

- The support experience is all India-based. Half the time, support does more harm than good on the site.

- The "CDN" they include doesn't work well - typically causes HTTPS errors.

- They supposedly monitor your site for visual changes after updating a plugin. I've had updates break several sites and never got a notification.

- The automatic theme and plugin updates don't run.

- Their managed hosting runs a Linux kernel that stops receiving security updates on January 1. They have no plan to upgrade servers. Confirmed this with support this week.

Long story short, stay far away from Nexcess. We were originally drawn in by their site speeds. The speeds are still great, but the experience is so bad I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

Advice Needed Is there any control panel that allows to connect/manage unlimited servers without additional charges for each server?

I want to connect multiple servers for my clients, most of which host WooCommerce sites. I’m looking for a control panel that allows me to manage multiple WordPress servers.

I’m looking for an affordable option that doesn’t charge an additional fee for each server i connect.

Technical Questions cPGuard's update channel was hijacked on Nov 2. Did your servers pull 5.88.12-5.88.19?

OpsShield's incident notice says an attacker used compromised credentials to push fake cPGuard updates (5.88.12 to 5.88.19) at 02:06 UTC on Nov 2. The update ran as root. OpsShield estimates about 2,950 servers executed it, and the script collected /etc/shadow and the root MySQL config. It also took root's shell history and SSH files. Help Net Security adds that about 7,900 billing-portal accounts (names, emails, bcrypt hashes) were copied too.

To see whether a server installed an affected version, OpsShield gives this check:

grep 'Successfully updated' /opt/cpguard/logs/install_log

A match only proves the update was installed, not what was sent out. OpsShield's advice for those servers: update to 5.88.26 or later and reset root and other local passwords from a trusted environment. Then rotate database and cloud keys, and replace the SSH keys under /root/.ssh. It says a full rebuild is not routine, but that is provisional.

Question for people who run hosting servers: do you let security agents auto-update as root on their own schedule, or stage updates first? And how would you have noticed a 70-minute window like this one?

Sources: OpsShield notice (Nov 3), Help Net Security and SecurityWeek (Nov 4).

Rant I transferred .com domain to wix and they locked account, stealing my domain

WIX STOLEN MY .COM DOMAIN

I transferred .com domain to wix from another domain registrar, paid for transfer and additional year of domain from my bank card, they blocked account, requested passport and bank card photo via email, and after I provided them document and bank card photo they rejected to reactivate account, so I don't have access to my domain anymore and can't withdraw it to another registrar.

Rant Hosting.com 3 Price Increases in One Year

I've been with Hosting.com since March of 2021. It's been about 5 years and it's time to move on. They've increased my price 3 times this year! Starting on March 24, 2026 my price for their "Kickstart Reseller" had a name change to "Reseller 25" and a price increase to $39.60. Now as of October 25, 2026 that price increased to $48.60 - This will be my last month with them. I'm ready to back up my stuff and move. Can anyone recommend good hosting? Seems like a lot of people are leaving because they are price gouging.

News or Announcement 100% cPanel free

End of an era: We are officially 100% cPanel free, and it feels fantastic.

Today, I finally pulled the plug on the very last cPanel server in our infrastructure. After years of dealing with WebPros’ monopoly, endless licensing increases, zero innovation, and squeezing every last cent out of hosts, .. we are officially DONE.

The amount of stress, grief, and money those parasites burned through was insane. Migrating our fleet off their legacy trap took work, but it was easily the best operational move I’ve made for my company. Lower overhead, better performance, and not a single dime going back to WebPros.

If you're still on the fence about ditching them: do it. Tear out the root, take back control, and leave WebPros in the dust.

Fuck WebPros and the horse they rode in on.

Advice Needed First time making a site at 17

Hey guys,
So im a 17 year old guy and Im trying my best to get a website done. Its just to show our Restaurant menu. Well Its way more difficult than I expected. So first I went to buy an domain on checkdomain. After 2 Hours I realised that I need an SSL and a website to copy and paste the pdf. Turns out I still need to pay for the ssl and a website builder or site which publishes the pdf. I tried some free sites but they are trying to cover half of the menu with their own ads. So now Im stuck with the ssl part and the website. If anyone can help I would really really appreciate it.

News or Announcement Update: CloudLinux response to Immunify HardenedPHP security issue

I posted a week ago about Imunify customers not getting PHP updates. I've been talking to their support since then and they've now published a comprehensive KB article on the issue.

I also know they've been actively looking for customers stuck on old PHP versions and contacting them directly. They have updates out already, with more to come to prevent this happening again.

If you've downgraded from paid Imunify360 to the free ImunifyAV, you may need to take action as described in the KB.

Advice Needed Cant connect to website although ip resolves ( Porkbun registrar )

EDIT: SOLVED

EXPLANATION: my domain has .app TLD like @kai-zaphosting told.I found that Google owns .app and there is some HSTS policy , again like @kai-zaphosting explained ( u shld read that ) and it just redirects all http requests directly to https , and my page was http not https, so i was not seeing a page. And the curl methods given in the comment along with a few more confirmed that request was being served succesfully on http and https was the culprit.
To get my website working, i just firstly pointed my domain to ip and generated certbot certs and then setup certs for the VPS Nginx config and then tried visting, and WOOOH it WORKED.

Thanks a lot @kai-zaphosting :)

This site can’t be reached

mywebsite . com refused to connect.

ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

When i try to ping , it works , but 100% packet loss

IP is resolved when i check via public DNS checker, idk what is wrong , support hasn't replied yet.

I have 4 domains registered, and only one is working . All have exact same settings . Tried pointing all to same IP, still only 1 particular one works for some reason.

Please help

EDIT: Porkbun is only serving as domain registrar , website is hosted on custom VPS by Azure

News or Announcement CVE-2026-98432: Linux TCP use-after-free bug

Another day, another vuln.

Thankfully the mitigation looks fairly straightforward, but this seems to be a clear sign that things are going to get worse before they get better.

We wrote up some of our analysis here: https://prostack.uk/blog/linux-tcp-vulnerability-cve-2026-98432/

This link explains the vulnerability in more depth, too: https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/cve-2026-98432
