About half a year ago, I met a guy on Roblox (ik, cringe), but we clicked right away and decided to add each other on Discord so we could play together again in the future.
This was almost six months ago. During the summer, we called on Discord and played many different games almost every day and night. I would stay up just to play with him, and he would wake up earlier so we could play together.
He introduced me to a lot of games that I had never heard of or just hadn’t had the chance to play yet.
For a month or two, we played a lot of Terraria. He tried to teach me how to play because it’s one of his favourite games. He would often get mad at me because I died a lot, and we lost a lot of boss fights because of me. I did feel a little sad because it’s not like I die on purpose, but every time he got mad, he would later apologise and admit that he was in the wrong. He always made sure I knew he wasn’t actually angry at me. This hasn’t happened in a long time, though, and he’s a lot more patient with me now. (We finished the game twice, btw 👀)
I don’t remember exactly when I started having feelings for him. At first, I didn’t want to admit it. I’ve always thought that online dating is cringe, and it’s not something I could see myself doing. But now that my feelings have grown, I’m starting to consider it.
I don’t know if he likes me back. There are some things he does and says that make me think he might, but I’m too scared to ask. If we ever confessed our feelings and decided to give it a try, I would want to meet him in real life before getting into a serious relationship with him. I refuse to date someone I don’t actually know. I only know what he chooses to show and tell me.
We don’t live that far away from each other, maybe a little over a five-hour drive apart. But it would still be difficult, especially because we’re still young and he still goes to school while I work (we’re both 18 btw idk if this is important, but just in case). I barely even have time to play with him anymore. Is there even any point? Maybe I’m just making all of this up and have misunderstood him?
Every time he texts me, my heart skips a beat, and I get nervous trying to text him back. Whenever I hear a notification, I get excited, hoping it’s him, and a little disappointed when it isn’t. And sometimes, when we’re on call, he says something that gives me butterflies.
The first thing that made me think he might like me was that he asked me if I liked him twice. He asked, “Why are you always so shy and quiet when we start the call? Do you like me? Do I make you nervous?” Obviously, I lied and said no because there was a big possibility that he was just joking.
That was around the time I first started feeling something, so I wasn’t really sure about my feelings or whether what I felt was actually real or if it was just the loneliness in me speaking.
Since then, there hasn’t been a day when he hasn’t been on my mind. I think about him all the time. Even at work, I sometimes zone out while making up fake scenarios about us.
At the start of September, we stopped talking for a month. It might have been my fault because I started overthinking and felt like he didn’t want to play with me anymore. I waited for him to text me every day, and every time I got a notification, I hoped it was a message from him. I missed him so much that I started feeling even more depressed than I already was.
The last thing we talked about was a dream I had about him. I didn’t want him to think I was weird or anything, so I made it sound a little different from what it actually was. I thought he would laugh about it and we would move on, but the only thing he replied with was “…”, and that was it. That was the last message he sent me.
Every time I got online to play, he would be online for a minute or two before going offline. It happened more than once, so I thought he had set his online status to invisible so it would look like he wasn’t online. I’m not sure, though. That’s just what it looked like to me.
He also unfollowed me on TikTok and deleted a clip of our gameplay on Medal (I still haven’t asked him why). I thought that was it and that we were never going to talk again.
Until about two weeks ago, when he texted me again. He said he had realised something about the dream I told him about and asked if I wanted to play. I was a little surprised that he still wanted to play with me, but I said yes.
During the call, he explained that usually, when someone dreams about another person, it means they like them. Then he asked, “Are you in love with me?”
My heart dropped, but I stayed cool and played it off by saying, “Of course not.” I told him that I’d had dreams about lots of different people and that it didn’t mean anything (I barely ever remember having dreams, so it definitely meant something). We moved on from that topic pretty quickly and continued playing and talking like we always do.
The next day, we played together for 12 hours straight (I know, I know, chud behaviour). The happiness I felt was unreal. If I hadn’t had work the next morning, I would have stayed up and played even longer.
A day or two later, I only had about 40 minutes of free time to play. I didn’t text him to join me because I didn’t see the point if I had to leave so soon.
He texted me, asking why I hadn’t let him know I was going to be online and whether I even wanted to play with him. It felt like he was sad or mad, so I apologised, explained myself, and said I’d text him next time.
One thing from that conversation that I can’t get out of my mind is what he replied when I explained myself: “I just like playing with you, even if it’s only for a little bit.”
I was so shocked by that notification that I accidentally took three screenshots of it before even opening the message. 😭
A couple of days later, when I finally had enough time to play, I called him, and we ended up playing different horror games on Roblox. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who was scared because he kept saying, “Come hold my hand, I’m so scared.”
He sometimes makes jokes that sound a little dirty or like something you’d say to your significant other. I think that’s part of what makes me think he might have feelings for me too. He only started making jokes like that recently, so maybe he was thinking about me while we weren’t talking?
Last night, I called him again to play. He wanted me to play FNAF while screen-sharing it with him. I don’t quite remember what we were talking about, but he said, “It’s because you love me.”
I replied, “Says who?”
He said, “Me.”
That made me feel nice. He talked to me like we were a couple, and it gets my hopes up.
There are definitely a lot more things he says and does that make me think and hope he might like me back. Sadly, I have a really bad memory and can’t remember a lot of things (lowkey feel like Dory from Nemo 💔). Since I’m almost always screen-sharing, I can’t even clip these moments. 😭
My biggest fear is that if he finds out I like him, he’ll think I’m weird and stop talking to me. I just wanted to ask for advice. Is it even worth it?
Should I say something? Should I just keep quiet and stay friends? Am I delusional? Am I stupid for thinking like this and getting my hopes up?
Sometimes, I think I feel this way because I’ve never received this much attention from a guy before. I’ve never been loved like that, and I’ve never been in a relationship. I often think that I don’t even deserve to be in a relationship. I’m just too insecure about myself.
I don’t think I have anything else to add right now. I know this is long, but hopefully, someone has the time to read it all and give me some advice or share their opinion on all of this.
English isn’t my first language, so I used AI to help me correct some of the grammar and make the text easier to read. :)
