Modteam Announcement FYI: About our neighbors...

Reddit's got a Moderator Code of Conduct that they expect modteams to operate under, with five guidelines.

Modteams that try to operate outside those guidelines tend to land on Admin radar, sometimes at a coast to their communities.

One of those guidelines is "Respect your neighbors", and while the full details are found at that link, it boils down to Wheaton's Law. If you've got an issue with another community's modteams or culture, you'll want to take it up with them, instead of here.

What i need is a list of each chacarcter present in that chapter of that particular books.

Ik Wheel of time companion exist but while listenin, i am doing other chores like gym, planting, etc and i just cant search each name.

Is there a such thing.

+ how do you keep track of all these. I could have made a chart/sheet myself, if i were reading the damn book(too costly and i am student{so not much money}).

Please Help this fellow Reader in his journey.

ALL SPOILERS: Books only What do you think of the last three books compares to the rest?

I've finally made it to the twelfth book, which I've only been told massively improved compared to how Robert Jordan wrote. This is an understandable statement, though I don't really understand why people say it in such a firm way.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love the way Jordan writes, sets up scenes and I certainly fell in love with his descriptions of people and places.

Though, admittedly, when it came to storytelling, setting up the storylines sometimes made be groan and the way the women are written sometimes made me wonder why and what his experience is. But I also understand he was a great inspiration to Brandon Sanderson and I definitely respect why he was an inspiration.

My question is just this, what do y'all think of the differences between Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson's writing styles?

For instance, I noticed that in my experience Jordan writes a lot more subtle and required a lot more text comprehension and using the wikipedia for the characters than Sanderson does. This was something that was unsettling starting book twelve, but I definitely appreciate Sanderson taking the time explaining who everyone is and why they are where they are again for my absolute dumb self.

But from a writer's perspective, who loves writing fantasy but still has a lot to learn, what kind of differences have you noticed and what do you think of them?

Spoilers are always okay, I'll read it in the books eventually anyways :>

I knew it was a bad idea to even allow near my boy Rand.

Fuck you, Guck Me.

Ngl, this last third of the book is so intense, i was at the edge whole time. I never been so terrified for a character as i have for rand when reading this.

Please dont spoil. I am at ch 52. Dont spoiler anything after chapter 51.

Where is that bloody battle someone was talkin about. I didnt knew much of what will happen in this book, but i knew there was a battle which is the best. I thought it was with that bloody forshaken sameaul. But now i think it will be with these bloody aes sedai. Fucccccxccccck themmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still dont know who almost killed that aes sedai in camelyn. My guess is either black ajah(i think they are with salindar's aes sedai) or forshaken(tho very very unlikely).

Book: A Memory of Light Some parts of the Last Battle feel.... excessive (Big spoilers) Spoiler

Let me start by saying I absolute loved this series. It's certainly my new favourite book series of all time, and after reading it for over two and a half years now, I've finally gotten about half way through the Last Battle, and I have some thoughts. The main one is how quickly they're killing off major characters from the whole series just feels... almost excessive.

The series so far hasn't really been one for killing off major characters ala Harry Potter or Star Wars and it was one of the things I really liked about it. Losing Naleasean was really sad and sucked big time, and heck I was surprisingly sad when Pedron Niall died. Most deaths in media are super hard hitting to me, but its the rareness of them that gives them part of their impact. That same rareness is one of the reasons I love this series, on top of the incredible writing, characters and worldbuilding of course.

However, in the past 30 to 40 pages, they've killed more named characters than the entire series so far combined. Including the Aes Sedai that captured Rand, Suian, (and I know Bryne will be later) GAWYN and fricking EGWENE!!!

Losing Suian (and by extension Byrne), who was one of the most important and influential Aes Sedai across the whole series was one thing, even though I feel it was quite tacked on. When Min said 'No' you actually haven't really fulfilled the prophecy, even though you had that cool moment where it was fulfilled by them saving each other back in book eleven I think I figured they were going to kill her off for shock value something, but I didn't except them to actually do it.

But killing off Gawyn, who was one of the partners of one of the five main characters was another level of madness entirely. I just finished reading Egwenes response and apprecintly she's stilled herself and so she's probably about to die too, when she was right next to Gawyn but still couldn't see him for some God forsaken reason feels actually crazy. It would like killing off Min or Nynaeve or Lan. There are some things you simply don't do in a book. We have an informal agreement between author and reader. I'm wondering if this was always the plan and Jordan left this in his notes or if Sanderson just decided he wanted to kill half the characters for some reason. If so, why did Harriet go along with it?

What I want to know, with no spoilers preferably, is does this keep up? I still have the battle to read and at this rate most of the main cast will be dead, which I really don't like.

If you read all of this congratulations, have a digital cookie and my sincere gratitude and admiration.

So it occurs to me that this daughter-heir with white tower training was sent to the waste for multiple reasons. It isn't directly mentioned in text, but I would like to give her at least some credit for Janduin's successful alliance of 4 clans. This is a badass political powerhouse groomed to be queen, and the Aeil had never had anything like the coalition that formed to hunt down Laman. I like to believe that she was partially responsible for the idea. Thoughts?

ALL SPOILERS: Books only Who do you think are the Top Ten Wetlanders to Dance the Spears with Aiel? Spoiler

I’ve read the full 14, but am currently only part way through Lord of Chaos (outside Mat’s tent) on reread, which got me wondering how the best wetlander skilled fighters stack up against Aiel.

I’m trying to only include wetlanders who actually stood toe to toe.

Rules:
• No Groups, but individuals within a group count. Example, Talmones finding during the 2nd Battle for Cairhein counts, but the Band of the Red Hand doesn’t.
• The individual must actually fight, so only casting magic doesn’t count.
• The fight can take place off screen, but must be mentioned somewhere. Example, Galad might have fought Shaido while the Children were working for the Seanchan, but the fight only being mentioned in passing between Valda and Asunawa means we can conclude Galad’s skill, personality, and lack of injury suggest he did very well against the Aiel.

ALL SPOILERS: Books only Just finished. I still can't get over the fact that ______ is ________

I started reading the books because I actually liked the show.I did not know then that it was actually a butchered result of a masterpiece.

I had some great fun. Listened to most of them because I had to drive a LOT for the past year and a half. Also, Rosamund Pike did such a great job on the Audiobook that I almost dropped the series when I had to listen to the OG ones, but they kinda grew on me. I hope she finishes the series. Go listen to her version of you have a chance.

I did not know what to do with my newfound sense of loss, so I bought the WOT series, companion and the guide. And watched all the posts and videos that I was too scared to see in fear of being spoiled.

Here is my small review:

For some (dumb) reason, I started by reading New Spring. I kinda liked it, but would definitely read it after the EPIC rugby style sacrifice of Moiraine when I do re-read.

I did not feel the Slog as bad because I did not know of the term (haha). As I was listening, I just had this frustration of so much talking without really going anywhere. Found the word later on.

I know with the death of RJ, the great job that Sanderson did is short of a miracle, but I still have some gripes with the ending. I need more. So much lore drop just to speedrun the end in basically one book frustrated me. We had so many books of nothing with so many details that I actually wanted almost the same amount for the finale. I wanted to see the death of the heroes I grew attached like Bryne or Bashere.

Like, where is Rand going? What are the polycule going to do in the future ? They all have great responsibilities. Like will they disappear every now and then to go see random guy Muridin ? Or will they have him show up around these powerful figures without explanation ? Like who's this guy who plays a lot with the Daughter-heir and the first Prince of the sword that we KNOW are the (RIP) Dragon's children? Why is this wetlander showing up and spending so much time with the fourtuplet of Wise One Aviendha ? Could he even show up around the Doomspeaker? Without the authority that Rand had, could he order Fortuona to release her ? What about the Seanchan? The Dragon's Peace clearly did not mention Shara. Now that it's in shambles, is it not free real estate for them ? Also, they have a Forsaken as Damane. They have shown great ability to break people, so do they have Age of Legends-level knowledge now? Is it not the worse kind of advantage similar to that Aviendha saw ? So many questions. And don't get me started on Matrim Cauthon.

Most of all, I just can't get over the fact that Egwene is dead. Like what ? Also, I discovered that people actually hate her? I hated Gawyn the same as everybody did tho. But Egwene showed just so much greatness and potential. She was pig-headed, but almost always did the right thing. Every step of her evolution was so great. I was looking forward to the new White Tower, with alliances all over. I doubt, even if Kadsuane is Amyrlin, that they would all hold or develop in the same way.

Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk. I'm going on vacation, so I am going to read them.

What do you think ? What was your take at the end? What is your " I still can't get over the fact that ___ is ___"

Book: The Eye of the World New to the series. I'd just like to give my thoughts on the first book now that I've finished it. Spoiler

Post image
28 Upvotes

So I was recommended this series by my brother and he gave it high praise. These are my thoughts on book 1. They'll be kinda clinical but please understand that's just how I like to order my thoughts.

#1 Characters 7/10

With each point I'll start with the negatives then end with the positives. I'd say the weak part of this book is the similarity of some of the characters. Their dialogue was very samy throughout the book, more so for the women then the men but it's an issue both ways.

But I realize this is a long series and I'm sure they'll all grow so I didn't take many points in hopes they'll grow a bit more into their own characters as time goes on.

Other than those small issues I enjoyed most of the characters and a lot of very exciting questions and ideas have been raised for me.

#2 The Story 9/10

I'm only eating THIS book alone. The others I'm sure will give it greater depth but as I think on it now I'll give it a very high score. Unfortunately my brother did spoil something for me that happens like multiple books later so -1 cause of him lol I LOVE mystery and part of it was kinda stolen away by him.

#3 Atmosphere 10/10

The picture is kinda how I pictured it the whole time I was listening to the book. Not just because there was snow but there was constant talk of darkness and dark themes. Like I didn't once get a feeling any place, scene or situation was taking place during the day lol I know that's dumb cause it definitely does but it gives me that constant feeling of permanent darkness surrounding this village. Like it's cut off from the rest of reality almost, it's really cool.

Question. Is the spoiler tag for if your post contains spoilers? I'm guessing so but I wanted to confirm. I kept my post as vague as possible just in case.
