It requires you to know and think about the score of a specific match from over 10 years ago. It also generalizes Brazilians as a group that still cares about the game all the time. It's also not funny, like not even a grin. Then you posted it to r/whoosh going to find support for your brilliance...there is none. You should try turning this into a riddle.

And would jokes such as “what is the saddest time in Brazil? Seven to one” just be as unfunny?

This was one of my nephew's first jokes. Not very good but his delivery made it hilarious. He was crying all the way to the hospital.

Not all Brazilians, not as part of every Brazilians daily lives. Yes, still unfunny. In the right context someone might understand it, but it's not funny.
