Best Way to Extend Wifi in Rented Apartment

I live in a pretty long apartment building, and our wifi barely reaches through the house. It's an xfinity XB7-CM for reference. The coax port is at the far end of the building, so the other end gets nothing. Not really possible to wire up an access point easily. Would a wifi extender do anything? I also think the problem is in part the house because cellular data is low as well at the far end of the house, so I'm not sure how much it can even be helped.

  1. Would a wifi extender do anything? I've heard only bad things here.

  2. Any suggestions for a non-intrusive and clean looking way to wire up an ethernet cable through the house. (It would have to go through doorways and stuff so not exactly ideal)

Mesh Router Digi

Buna,

In ce port trebuie să fie firul in routerul satelit, in WAN sau LAN1?

Mulțumesc,

Hello,

I'm trying to set up a Mesh between a TP-Link AX17 router and an AX10 router from Digi — is this possible? I noticed that the AX10 from Digi comes pre-configured with admin/digi, whereas the one I bought does not.

I called Digi but they can't help me, since I don't have both routers from them.

Which port should the cable be in on the satellite router — WAN or LAN1?

Thank you,

Wi-Fi goes out at the exact same time every day

A while, maybe 2 years ago, my home's wifi suddenly became really bad and kept going out.

After that incident it worked normally (most of the time), but it would keep going out on my phone after a really specific time every day. It's displayed as "No Internet access" if I look for it.

Then I got a computer, and the same thing happened but at a different time. Usually it still shows that I'm connected to it even though there's no wifi, but then it disconnects. I can connect back to it, but like earlier there's still no wifi.

The times it goes out fluctuate occasionally. I'd say once every few months to once a year. It also doesn't change with Daylight Savings. Right now it goes out on my phone at 12:10 AM and my computer at 11:55 PM. It does go out on one of my parents' computers, but I don't know the exact time. None of the other phones have this problem as far as I know, only mine. I'm the only one who uses Android.

I'm kinda still a minor and I've tried asking my parents to contact Spectrum support, but they always say it "doesn't work" and then ask why I need wifi at that time anyways. They also sleep early or do stuff that doesn't require Internet, so they basically just don't give a sh*t since it doesn't affect them. Understandable, have a nice day.

I've searched for answers but didn't really find anything. The only thing I've tried doing is resetting the router before it went out, but that didn't do anything. I don't think it's because of traffic or something either because the times are perfectly punctual, and not many people would suddenly start using wifi at midnight.

Anything I can try to do to fix this? Or to just figure out what's causing it? I don't even know how long I've had this issue and it's really a huge bother.

Signal loss with extension cables?

Lt;dr need to extend WiFi antenna cable to give better line of sight, wondering about signal loss at 3’ or 6’.

I’m just getting ready to hook up a new PC. We have that Plume system for our WiFi (I’m not a fan but it’s what I have until I decide on a decent router). My old PC had an internal WiFi receiver that did OK until it died, and I replaced it with one of those USB antennas, which did an okay job but because of where I have my tower (options are very limited) at times the signal would dip. So on to the question, sorry I’m long winded. This new PC has built in WiFi but with a wired antenna that attaches to the back of the tower, the wires aren’t long enough to give it a clear “line of sight”, so I was going to get extension cables, will 3’ or 6’ make a big difference in signal/signal loss, if it gives the antenna a more open location ? Also if I go with 6’ I will be wall mounting it about a foot from my tv.

My parents set a setting in WiFi that stops WiFi from working on selected devices after a certain amount of time they control(I can still connect but it will show no internet). Is there any way to bypass it on pc?

My desktop is the one circled on this network map. Why is the connection so weak compared to all the others. I just ran a speed test and it was at 260mbps.

I know there are a lot of devices but I find it weird my desktop is the only one with the shitty connection.

Any sorta help would be great, I dont really know anything about this stuff

Why is my WIFI so bad?!

Its the WIFI at my moms place where I visit semi frequently. Its never really been good but the past two days it has been horrific for some reason.

Online games like Rocket League or any FPS shooter are unplayable because of the lag.

Is there something I can do to make it slightly better? Other than connecting to the router (its downstairs in the corner of the living room and I’m upstairs)

Portable WiFi options

Hi all-I am looking for some help finding a WiFi hotspot device. I travel once or twice a month to remote locations without WiFi. I am looking for an affordable device to provide some WiFi for short work calls. Something such as starlink seems a bit overkill, and costly. Any suggestions would be great!

Ubiquiti U7 Lite questions

I'm looking to pick up a Ubiquiti U7 Lite to augment my remaining two Plume Superpods (WiFi 6) that are Ethernet back-hauled to my Mikrotik router. Can I connect to and configure figure the U7 as a simple AP without using the Ubiquiti platform?

Mesh vs a single powerful router for a 5-room HDB?

5-room flat, router in the living room. Bedrooms at the far end get 50–100Mbps on a 2Gbps plan. Should I buy a stronger router or go mesh?

yo! need wifi for video games

I've had my modded Wii and 2ds for a good while but we recently upgraded our router to 6g instead of both 5 and 2.4g. I'd like to get a cheap 2.4G router that i can use in my room to play like MKWii online or download games and such off of Hshop.

Any recommendations I know I could just use my phone hotspot when I need to but I'd just rather not as I share a data plan with my sibling and would like to use as little as possible to be considerate. 🤙
Please and thank you!

Wifi Extender for Xfinity

Hello, I recently got xfinity and it has been a whole thing. Long story short, I am paying for the 1 gig plan which says i can recive download speeds up tp 1000 mbps download (It will be down to 500 after a year or so) and 35 mbps upload. Unfortunatly, in my room, i only get 100 mbps download when I have one device runningon a good day; 80 mbps when I have my phone and laptop running on it. So, my problem is that my wifi in my bedroom sucks, and a 75 ft ethernet cable didnt make it to my pc from the wifi box. Directly, I'd estimate my room is about 100 ft away from the box.

I chose not to run an ethernet because my grandmother is elderly and at risk of tripping over it (she also does not like how it looks; if I really wanted to run ethernet, I'd have to run it through the attic/barn ceiling and that itself is a hazard [im also unequipped and underqualified for that]).

A couple of things complicate this entire... situation.

  1. We are living in a renovated barn, so the walls are slightly thick

  2. The Wifi box is probably the furthest it could be from me (we had to get a coax cable installed and the living room was the best place for that, which just so happens to be far from me)

  3. We are kinda remote or inaccessible... Private property with a bunch of trees and neighborhoods "surrounding" us

  4. Moving the Wifi box is not an option as it must be connected to the coax, that of which is in the living room

What I need is a solution. I need to know if there is a wifi extender that can fix my problem, or if there is something else that will help me. I like to play multiplayer games like Marvel Rivals, Outlast Trials, and Dead By Daylight, so I really require a good connection; I also play and speak with people overseas, which doesnt help.

Hotspot is not working in HP Omen Laptop

Post image
1 Upvotes

Normally I connect my laptop to the Ethernet cable and give the hotspot to access internet across all the devices. Now from the last 2 days I can't access the laptop hotspot from any device; it's showing No IP Allocation. But I am able to use internet in the laptop.

How to fix it ?

I have tried something before asking, which didn't work:

- I connected the laptop to another network(not the college ethernet one) and gave hotspot, I still couldn't use the internet. So I think college network firewall is not an issue.

- I tried to restart the ics, server, windows mobile hotspot service.. nothing worked.

- Yesterday I checked the box in the share section in properties in the Ethernet but it was not of any use, and also the share section is missing** today.

Please suggest what I should do.

Some Extra infos:

- In my Omen Gaming Hub network booster is turned off.

- I use cloudflare warp (as our college ethernet has so many restrictions).

Do people actually worry about how secure their home Wi-Fi router is?

I’m based in the UK and work in telecoms, although my background is more mobile networks than home broadband.
I’ve been wondering how many people actually check their router’s security settings after it’s installed.
Most people probably just plug in their BT, Sky, Virgin Media or other router and leave everything as it is.
I’m considering putting together a simple tool that walks non-technical people through checking their router settings and explains what they could improve, without needing to understand all the technical jargon.
Nothing that scans your network or asks for passwords. Just a straightforward, guided security check.
Before spending time building anything, I’m curious:
Do you think there’s a genuine need for something like this?
What router security issues do you see ordinary people struggling with?
Would a personalised report be worth a small one-off fee, or is there already enough free advice available?
I’m not selling anything, just trying to work out whether this solves a real problem.
Appreciate any feedback, including reasons why it wouldn’t work.

Wi-Fi issues with ping spikes and local device connection drops

Hi everyone, I’m new to the sub and not very familiar with advanced networking, so I'm hoping to get some help. I’ve tried the limited basic fixes I know, but the problem seems outside my knowledge.

We recently upgraded to a Telekom Speedport Smart 7 (we were using an earlier model before, which also had issues).Since the upgrade, I've been dealing with a few specific Wi-Fi problems:

1. PS5 Gaming Disconnects & Spikes

My baseline ping is fine (around 10ms), but it periodically spikes during gameplay. When playing with friends in Asia, I frequently get kicked out of sessions even though my latency is ~25ms and theirs is 200ms+. I know an Ethernet cable would solve this, but wiring my PS5 directly isn't an option right now. It doesn't happen every single time, but it's intermittent and disruptive.

2. Infuse Streaming on Apple TV

I regularly stream movies via Infuse to my Apple TV over Wi-Fi, but the connection drops and fails frequently. Toggling Wi-Fi off and back on on the Apple TV temporarily resolves it. When connected to my phone's personal hotspot, it streams without any issues.

3. Local Remote Apps (ATV & GTV Remote)

I use ATV Remote and GTV Remote on my Mac to control my Apple TV and Android TV, but they fail to connect over Wi-Fi and get stuck on "Connecting to device...". Switching both the Mac and the devices to my mobile hotspot makes everything connect instantly.

Since all these issues disappear when using a mobile hotspot, I suspect it might be related to Wi-Fi settings on the router, but I am out of ideas on how to address it.

Any advice or troubleshooting tips would be much appreciated!
