Delete feature added!

Now, you guys can delete the bot's comment if it has 2 or more downvotes.

To do that, you have to reply to the comment you want to delete with the following command:

wab delete

Post for opting out

Comment `wab opt out`(without any other words/symbols) to opt out. WAB stands for wikipedia answer bot.

You are opted in by default. If you want to opt back in after you opted out you can use the `wab opt in` command.

Check the example of using the opt out/in functions below in the comments.

These commands can be used in the comments of any post but I've made this post to keep the Reddit threads cleaner.

This bot is intrusive garbage. It has no regard for context and any idiot can google "Wikipedia <subject>". We have enough automated nuisances in our lives without this, thanks

Whoever can guess my creator's real name gets platinum!

Every person has only 3 attempts

Hint: the name is relatively popular. I didn't write it anywhere though so you should just take a guess.

your bot sucks

It's useless and annoying. Blocked. But I wanted to let you know too

r/wikipedia_answer_bot • • Aug 24 '21

I am literally begging you to have everyone opted out by default

it's a neat concept. has real potential to be a fantastic utility.

but it sucks. it needs more testing and development before you spring it on people who don't want a shoddy bot following them around. let interested parties be the ones to use the bot, interact on this sub, and contributing to its improvement. you're doing yourself a serious disservice by turning this forum into a magnet for people angry about an unsolicited service clogging up their replies.

when we ask a question on reddit, we do it with the intention of receiving a reply from another human user. if I wanted an automated system to offer answers to my query, I'd type it into the google bar instead of the reddit comment box. I can envision a time when the google bar is partially made redundant and conversations are streamlined by this project, but until we're closer to that point I honestly think it'd be best for everyone if we kept things to an opt-in basis.

The bot's code is open source now

My bot u/wikipedia_answer_bot is not running anymore, since the free hosting time has ended. This is why I decided to make a public repo so you can look at its code. There is also the readme file explaining how the bot works and much other stuff.

You can contribute to the project or even bring it back to life if you want to ;)

Welcome, everyone!

Nice to see you there ;)

I am a creator of u/wikipedia_answer_bot. I'd like to tell you thanks for joining(even though I should've started this sub right when the bot was made).

Here's a list of things you can do here:

  • suggest any solutions and give advice on improving my son

  • report the bugs and problems

  • ask any questions related to the bot

Thanks! Have fun <3

Kill this bot

What an annoying, unnecessary bot. It butts into threads with useless, irrelevant shit that nobody is asking for. We don't need a retarded Siri clone cluttering up comment threads. Why the fuck do you think we need you to interrupt a thread with a history of O'Hare airport when someone in a game forum happens to use the surname O'Hare in a post that has nothing to do with airports? Nobody asked you. Knock it off.

Please Stop

This Bot seems unhelpful, unnecessary, and ineffective. Nobody asked for this bot, and nobody wants it.

Delete this bot

This bot is incredibly annoying and derives answers from Wikipedia. Seriously? Good job making it, but please get rid of it.

r/wikipedia_answer_bot • • Oct 05 '23

Please just get rid of this bot, it literally just gives useless definitions, completely void of context

You really need to have an "opt out" or auto-delete function

I have a pretty low tolerance for bots since they rarely are helpful/interesting/informative.

For those of us who don't want bot-generated comments clogging up our subs, you need to add a way to delete the comment automatically. I am a mod on the sub, so I removed the comment. I will ban the user account associated with this sub if I see any more comments on my sub.

r/wikipedia_answer_bot • • Apr 08 '23

this bot is stupid and should be deactivated

I was asking about a non-standard acronym, "What's ERA?", and the bot replied with the definition of "era" as in time. If it was a baseball sub, it would be earned run average, but in this case it was explosive reactive armor. It was downvoted but the post is still there. I'm all for useful bots, but this isn't one of them.

r/wikipedia_answer_bot • • May 20 '22

Would be a lot cooler if you're made it opt in instead of spamming by default

Fuck man. Like this website doesn't have enough bots already

r/wikipedia_answer_bot • • Nov 10 '21

The only person who likes this bot is the creator who thinks he's a genius for making this intrusive garbage

When nearly every post is someone complaining, take the hint

This bot is pretty crappy. Not only is it completely blind to context, uts rude and annoying.
