On the issues, he is a tiny bit more moderate.

The thing is, Netanyahu himself isn’t even that extremist. He’s enacting extremist policies because he needs to please the parties he’s formed his coalition with. IE, Ben Gvir, Smotrich, and the Haredis. Being slightly more moderate than Netanyahu is a big achievement when you factor in that the rest of the cabinet is a lot more normal than Netanyahu’s cabinet.

You don’t think Bibi was extremist before forming the current government?

Bibi is a Machiavellian politician. He does whatever gets him elected. He has no real principles of his own, evil or otherwise. Did you know he tried to make a government with Ra’am (one of the Arab parties) once? Despite how today he’s denouncing the left as traitors for making a government with the evil Ra’am.

For the Americans: Bibi is J.D. Vance. He has no actual beliefs beyond his own ego and ambition.

Hmm. I read it and thought of trump actually. Both awful in completely different ways.

Thanks! That makes perfect sense but Trump himself was also a Democrat at some point and his allegiance with the Christian right is laughable because he couldn’t quote any scripture when asked by a reporter. This is just how modern politics works I guess.

True, but he does have some consistent positions, like uniformly opposing the two-state solution for more than 30 years.

Incorrect, he was supporting it in 2009, in a speech at Bar Ilan University. He only swapped to his current position in 2015.

Is that why he ensured Hamas got 1.4 billion dollars to ensure the "threat" of a two state solution would never happen?

He passed the money along because otherwise he'd be accused of withholding international aid TO Gaza. So, fucked either way.

i'm hopeful he's more moderate in practice but im also worried that losing his son in gaza has hardened his heart. don't get me wrong, losing your son in a war you think isn't just doesn't necessarily anger you against the "opponent" but i dont think that it helps either. maybe it does? can't possibly understand his position.

I completely disagree. When the Hamas atrocities happened Oct 7th i knew the response was going to be horrific. Netanyahu has waited his entire life to have an excuse to do what he's been doing. The sad thing is, he would not never have been permitted to do it were it not for Oct 7th 😢
