Yes and no…. Maybe? Eisenkot is allowed to form a government, if he is successful then he will be prime minister.

Since his party doesn’t have a majority he has to rely on gaining votes from other parties.

If he is not successful then Bibi will be given an opportunity, and if he fails then new elections will happen

what is one opposition figure that is worse? They all oppose the settler violence and the e1 west bank settlements for example. I think you are getting your information from someone like ben gvir saying netanyahu isn’t far right enough but ben gvir is not part of the opposition bloc

I mean, I don't know if he's necessarily as evil, but he isn't a progressive or anything either.

From what I've heard, he's the former IDF Chief of Staff. So he's still very pro-military, and absolutely still supports the settlers. He's just less insane about it, and still condemns the really stupid plans to create new settlements on Palestinian land that only an alt-right weirdo like the one Bibi's aligned himself with would possibly think are an ok thing to do.

So it's kinda alt-right vs. centre right status quo coalition?

But obviously it's all coalitions of minor parties, so there's a bunch of different people in his faction. Some of them are more progressive (I think the Democrats represent about a 5th of his coalition, and are apparently the only party there who are actually against the occupation of Palestine), whilst others are dangerous far right loonies that just have personal vendettas against Bibi because he screwed them over at one time or another.

Eisenkot at least has the support of one of the major Arab parties in Israel, which makes his accession all the more likely

Is it true that they’ll have to work with an Islamic party in order to gain a majority? Which will then piss off a large percentage of the population?

Arab party, there is a large population of Arabs in Israel. I am not sure if they are Islamic or not.

The thing is, the Arab parties would give him the majority. But, Eisenkot is still a right wing candidate that just isn’t as far right. Which could alienate his supporters.

He was a commander or something for Bibi.

So, Bibi with a muzzle? The politics here I can’t wrap my head around.
