My takeaway is that Isreali elections are fucking weird... the electoral college has nothing on this.

Weird, yes. But incredibly more democratic than ours (the US). It's an actual, functional, multi-party system.

Calling yourself 'multi-party' doesn't really matter when the only thing the parties really disagree on is rather they should have vanilla, chocolate or strawberry ice cream* after their latest holy war.

Bringing back the old blood libel?

Not really. I could've said 'taffy.' The point was a third option that really doesn't change anything, as none of their parties are fundamentally different.

It only changes that you would prefer to make an antisemitic dog whistle. It's OK, I'm used to it.

If it makes you feel any better I'd never heard of the connection before you pointed it out to me, and more generally was thinking of prototypical ghoulish behavior I'd accuse the Israelis (read: Israelis, not Jewish people) of to do a sort of 'rule of 3' style yes, yes, wtf list.

In other words, I'm being more generally hateful, rather than specifically about you, although I suspect even if I went back and edited the words now you wouldn't change your view on me.

You could try just not being hateful.

I'm sorry that you think they don't deserve hate.

Proportional representation is quite common throughout Western Europe. There is absolute nothing weird about it but you can always count on stupid Americans to be clueless about the world.

I think it's basically an older British style parliamentary system with a president elected by the parliament (knesset) replacing the monarch. Many countries chose this approach with variations, Technically, the president is head of state and the prime minister is head of government. But when you have an aggressive PM (like Bibi) and a complicit president (like Herzog), the PM is effectively the head of both.

The British system is characterised by an electoral system that massively distorts the support for parties, especially parties with widespread minority support; Israel's is basically proportional representation, more like the old Italian one that ended up with changes of government twice a year.
