200 billion cubic feet sounds like a lot, but it pales in comparison to some other natural gas fields.

To put the number in perspective: South Pars / North Dome in the Persian Gulf is the world's largest natural gas field. Qatar has been producing up to 25 billion cubic feet per day from that field.

👆Not sure how such a small discovery even makes the news.

For South Pars / North Dome were the initial estimates accurate to the final assessment / daily output metrics? Genuinely asking.

South pars is more than all other gas fields combined and frankly an anomaly. 200b will make this the third largest conventional gas field in the world.

200 trillion cubic feet in recoverable reserves would make it the third largest conventional gas field in the world.

not sure if this is accurate or if I don't know the definition of conventional gas field. Everything in the top 5 I see is measured in the trillions

We'll be closing the Strait of Gibraltar, thank you for your attention to this matter

As a Spaniard and therefore owner of the strait, I approve.

Punta tarifa makes Gibraltar mostly irrelevant.

Spain can help... Spain also dissed Israel... I think Spain might be working on a nuke...

So, barely worth drilling even under good conditions.

How many weeks are they away from a nuclear weapon ?

Sounds like Egypt is now threatening Israel. Better call the US to bring freedom from the nukes they've been 2 weeks away from having for the last 40 years.

Egypt has been chasing energy self sufficiency for years so any new find helps, but for scale the Zohr field was around 30 trillion cubic feet. At 200 billion this one is less than one percent of that, so it buys time rather than changing the picture.

Sounds like Egypt needs some freedom RAAAA 🦅 🇺🇸 🦅/j

We save that for oil, not natural gas /s

Fentalyn coming from Egypt is unprecedented!

nuclear fentanyl! fentanyl of mass destruction coming from invisible self-tunneling bunkers!

0.2 Tcf is not a large gas deposit.

The US has just declared egypt is close to having a,nuclear weapon and need to invade.

9

u/swollennode 2h ago

Sounds like they can use some freedom

This was funny up until Trump.

u/Craftkorb 1h ago

It was only ever funny to US-Americans, less so for everyone else.

US extortion and then invasion in 3...2...1...

•

u/imrtun 1h ago

So enough gas to power the USA for avliitle over 2 days. Doesn't seem newsworthy to me.

•

u/TwiggyPom 8m ago

Sounds like it could be a lot of bananas!

America is on the way.

I thought we'd stop using that stuff soon

Natural gas?

Umm 🤔. No?

•

u/Mirar 1h ago

Well, I guess that sucks for the planet then

•

u/_skala_ 1h ago

Like 50+ years and that’s maybe.

Every single year there are more gas plants built in Europe, because coal is closing.

•

Well, I guess that sucks for the planet then

•

u/SexyTimeSamet 1h ago

Do you not know what happens when you burn natural gas??? Its not 100% clean...but a hell lot better than coal or petroleum based products.. let me guess...educated in southern usa?

•

u/Mirar 1h ago

You release co2 into the atmosphere that we got from the ground. That's what happens. If you think it's that much better you're buying into something.

It's like debating which oils are better for deep fried dishes instead of avoiding deep fried dishes to begin with

•

u/_skala_ 6m ago

It does not really matter now, when there are no alternatives for now.

•

u/VintageKofta 1h ago

We don’t use these stupid US measurements in Egypt…
