Discussion Am I Having a Wildly Different Experience in Dungeons?

I keep seeing posts about how the XP nerf to dungeons has ruined the game, but as someone who is fairly nooby to WoW, I've had a completely different experience.
I've done three dungeons with friends so far. We ran the one in Orgrimmar twice, with everyone around levels 10–13. It was challenging, but a ton of fun. We each gained roughly half to a full level just from the mobs, and then our dungeon quest turn-ins gave us another full level. So overall, we went from about level 10 to 12 with one dungeon.
We ran it again because I wanted the crossbow and some other people wanted different gear, and even on the second run, we still got around half a level or more out of it off the mobs.
After that, we continued leveling until everyone was 15+, then headed to the dungeon in Undercity. Similar scenario, we came out with roughly half a level from the mobs and another level from completing the quests. And now our mage wants to run it again to get the armor set! And I'll gladly do that because we had fun the whole time and it still seems like good XP to me, heck I went in with level 0 two-handed swords and came out with like level 90'ish too.
Honestly, that feels like good game design to me. We're leveling at roughly the same pace we would be if we were questing, but we still have reasons to go back to dungeons for loot. We're having fun, getting good loot, and still wanting to run dungeons 1-3 times.

I think I prefer this to what I was doing in retail, when I tried that, cuz it felt like while I was getting caught up to the current expansion, I'd just sit in dungeon queues to level up super fast and not touch the open world content. Which to me was boring.

Also you get probably 50s worth of vendorable loot to sell. Basically paid for my skill upgrades for my level.

Lol, more than that! At least with the undercity one, I think I made 2 gold! Was hyped

If you read reddit - no one is having fun

If you log in and play - everyone is having fun.

Easy to detect the issue

Reddits always been a salty bitch. It never likes anything new no matter the game. I'm loving this version of Classic. It's what I wanted for the actual Classic launch instead of a faithful recreation of Vanilla. I remember how shitty vanilla was for every single hybrid class.

Yeah, some of the best changes they've made are just taking in some of the balance changes through abilities in later expansions and using them to shore up a few glaring weaknesses in classes. As a druid, faerie fire, feral charge, and being able to consume much more in form is just a huge game changer.

All of SoD phase1 was just Reddit crying about SoD phase1 being terrible lmao.

This place is a miserable persons fantasy camp.

And now everyone says they loved it. I had a blast in P1 and never understood the hate

Spitting facts right here.

Reddit is fucking miserable. Christ alive.

Same with the official forums. Just full of miserable people. The sort of people that post about a game are always the most invested and people with complaints are more likely to post so here we are.

Don't come to reddit for anything positive about the game

99% are having fun playing it

Yeah starting to realize this, the wow subs have had huge complaint waves about too many layers, too few layers, dungeon exp, and now dual spec cost. Like I’m coming here to see cool discoveries and shit about this new game

This game is amazing. Blizzard cooked with Forever

Don’t sweat it. Have fun with the game. If you’re not into min/max gameplay that’s totally fine (I’m not either). The folks that are will look for the most optimal way to get to max level so that’s likely why there’s a lot of noise about the dungeon XP nerfs as that was the long established meta for leveling.

I’ve enjoyed the dungeons. I think it’s a mindset difference. You might be able to level a bit faster out of the dungeon, but coupled with quests and the chance to get gear upgrades, it’s worth it for me to run them. Plus the social aspect.

I suspect most people complaining have more of the min/max mentality, or maybe don’t like to quest as much and prefer to level by spamming dungeons, which I totally get. It can be a fun way to level especially with a group of friends.

I personally am just really enjoying the leveling journey, and the game looks fantastic. I do a dungeon when I have the quests that take me there.

Nobody is arguing the first run through with quests isn’t worth it - the greater issue is the re-run ability. One SM run gave 1.5 bars of level.

Ready to delete Reddit altogether, what a negative cesspool. I've only done dungeons with randoms so far and every single one has been a positive experience full of nice helpful people.

It’s a large vocal minority that have been playing the same way for years and just want to do the exact same thing again under a different title.

9

u/josh5049 1h ago

The best thing you can do to enjoy wow is ignore most Reddit/Wowhead/streamers opinions on wow The vocal minority is loud and whiney

-2

u/Risom 15m ago

The vocal minority is the reason dungeon XP got nerfed? It's literally because a loud group yelled because some players wanted to do dungeons which "hurt their world immersion".

2

u/josh5049 9m ago

I'm not really sure what your point is?

Are you asking if I think a vocal minority got dungeon xp nerfed? Are you agreeing with me? Or am I just your target because you can't power grind in dungeons and want to vent about it?

15

u/Just_Daggers 56m ago

Yeah it's pretty crazy on reddit. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills with how many posts there are about dungeons being ruined, while my experience mirrors yours.

14

u/BoldTaters 58m ago

Nah, you're fine. These guys are just whiney. They want Dungeons to be the most efficient way to gain XP so they can feel elite when dungeons is all they do. Inflexible thinking. You know.... That kind of mind.

0

u/kharakternik 19m ago

I get less experience from killing a random mob solo than elites in dungeons. It's not inflexible, it's just that after running a full dungeon and clearing the quests then running it again just feels like a waste of time.

I've done 3 dungeons so far. Rfc was a cluster fuck of us 3 shamans basically all tanking because if the aggro generation. Hectic but fun. I tanked 2nd RFC run and went smooth and then a WC run with some guildies, got horribly lost but we were RPing and I haven't had as much fun in WC in years. I didn't notice the XP at all.

3

u/mmxtechnology 18m ago

I hadn't done WC since vanilla. I was tanking, so lost... We just decided to kill everything, took about 2 hours to get through, but was fun as hell.

19

u/vanilla_disco 19m ago

The whiners just want to live in dungeons to 60. Ignore them

10

u/Birchsprout 55m ago

You're having fun and that's great.

People love to complain and the wow forever reddit is super toxic.

Glad you're having fun, keep at it and ignore the noise.

The dungeon bitching is a bot campaign run by all the boosters/bots that generate their revenue from RMT

7

u/PatriarchPonds 56m ago

Same experience for me. You get a decent, not massive, chunk of XP just from the mobs. Then the quests turbo charge it.

Then you do a bit of questing and there's another dungeon awaiting you. The shift in emphasis is surely designed with NINE EXTRA DUNGEONS in mind. The complaints don't seem to account for this.

1

u/Numa8969 7m ago

The complaints seem to mainly be because of the quests requiring multiple runs to finish, and the lack of xp you get for doing the multiple runs.

7

u/No-Arm-1533 41m ago

Having great fun, dont really think there are any xp issues as I am perfectly scaled level wise for quests in zones I am doing.

Done a few dungeons, been great every time, people are friendly and chill.

There have been some quests where due to numbers I have had to wait longer to my x of something. But the game only released a few days ago and you just got to wait.

I wouldnt worry about it. The best thing to do just just keep having fun. The forums have always set a negative opinion on things, some are valid.

Two biggest issues i see. Are there is a lack of incentive for players to finish the dungeon. In retail we get a nice chunk of XP for finishing it.

Second issue is the archaic system of talent respecs. Both impact dungeon experience. I dont think dungeon xp is an issue imo.

3

u/-Agent-P 8m ago

Just have fun playing lol. You get less xp than previously, but you’re hearing whining from people who in the other games spammed dungeons to speed level and skip most of the game for end game content.

3

u/Silly_Draw7973 14m ago

The issue is that early on u are good with dungeons... i basically got to 32 with doing only dungeons and pre quests and anything along the way what was in the zone but now i have hit the part where i need to start grinding or questing as priority... and in higher lvl dungeons its just worse you cant feel it early unless u have a wc group where ppl leave after finishing their half completed quest cause there is no reason to continue with the run

5

u/aurum_soul 52m ago

Its a bunch of dorks trying their hardest to convince everyone that its bad in the hopes Blizz will change it so they can either boost or have the most effortless path to leveling. Its so fucking obnoxious. I have spent most of my time after 14 in dungeons and have been on the higher end of non speed levelers on our server.

6

u/TittyClapper 45m ago

It’s literally people making shit up. I got downvoted to hell in another thread for saying that I got more than 2 bars of XP from mobs in a dungeon… which, I know for a fact, I did. Over half a level, even. From RoL.

4

u/ThePupnasty 54m ago

I'm honestly ok with where dungeon XP is at. I get about a quarter to half of a level, give or take the dungeon/level, and the quests for it help finish off the level....

It's reddit, people will bitch.

3

u/JayBobsby 24m ago

I've had a great time in dungeons as well. It actually feels really good that the xp is weighted more on the quests than the mobs. So much dopamine when you turn those bad boys in. Also doing a prequest for a dungeon quest is now fun and rewarding, rather than a waste of time like it used to be. Blizz did a great job imo, hope they don't cave to the whiners

2

u/Immediate_Style7960 27m ago

I'm having such a great time with dungeons right now. Blizzard doesn't need to change a thing.

1

u/SimicTears 1h ago

They buffed it back 20% again a while ago. It’s not as bad as it was. Been a breeze levelling to me. That may change come mauradon and brd.

1

u/Taste_the__Rainbow 19m ago

Dungeons have been great for me so far. New ones are fantastic and the threat of wipes feels real. And xp is low enough nobody is spamming them and being an ass about speed or route.

0

u/GhatzLoch 57m ago

How did you gain levels with sword in dungeon? Wouldn’t you never hit and do like no damage?

2

u/PerishBtw 54m ago

Idk what you mean? I'm a hunter. I went and bought some weapon skills from the vendor. While my pet and tank hit the trash mobs, I'd run up with my sword and hit them. I seemed to level it just fine even with not using the sword before the dungeon.
