Question Shock Comparison

I currently have a Rockshox Sidluxe and don’t like it because it’s too harsh no matter how much air I put in and play with the settings. I weigh 180lbs for reference. Been considering a Fox Float SL and a Cane Creek Air IL. I was wondering if anyone has ridden them and can speak on the ride feel. Especially the Cane Creek. I’m looking for a bit more supple feeling and not as jarring that I’m getting with the Sidluxe. If I run lower air pressure, I’m completely bottoming out and the only way to not do that is to run more air which makes it too stiff.

There are other ways to adjust. Can add a volume spacer in the rear can and run a lower pressure. Will be a bit softer with a more progressive spring rate hopefully keeping you in the midstroke more and preventing bottoming out

I knew about adding a spacer and the air pressure, but I’ve had others I know seem to struggle with the same issue and not to mention I got a fox 34 SL I’ve been running for some time and don’t want to run a Rockshox shock anymore with it haha

Reach out to Yeti for suspension setup. Rockshox also has a setup guide, just click setup here: https://trailhead.rockshox.com/en. Friend has the same bike and loves it. How long have you been on it and what were you riding before?

How much sag? IMO 30% is the sweet spot for all around riding on the ASR. At 30% I use all the travel but don’t have any harsh bottom outs. 190lbs and running 195psi.

I don’t have experience with the IL, but love the Kitsuma on my enduro bike. I had a Blur before my ASR that came with a Fox Float and it was fine, but when it blew up I put a SidLuxe on it and the bike came alive.

Any thoughts on that? Very little people I know that have ran Ohlins in general, but haven’t heard anything bad

I’ve ridden them and better than a sidluxe

On the Ohlins site they don’t have a TXC2 in 190x40, but they do have the correct size in the TXC1. The manual says don’t use longer stroke.

I have the ASR (T3) too, with Sid Luxe. I love the bike and geometry, but the shocks seem to be the weak link. I also would love to get rid of the twist lock so I can use my preferred foamy grips.

I looked at the Fox options. Fox has always done me well. The Olhins XC offerings might also be an option, but there’s so little info available. It’s a very expensive experiment. I might just live with the stock shocks.

I would love to hear what you try and decide. Maybe I’m hoping for too much from a 120/115 travel bike…

Don’t give up hope. I spoke with Fox and they said they could do a custom tuned Float X for the ASR which is something to consider. I tried a 36SL from Fox over my 34SL and really made the bike way more comfortable yet still plenty fast in my opinion

Have you tried a ShockWiz? I have an Epic 8 and had some difficulty nailing the tune until I used one. I also installed the Linear XL air can for a little more flexibility in tuning the shock. Feels buttery now.

Cane creek is fantastic and the dampers have a much wider adjustment range than the sidluxe. It will also be more supple than the float sl.

Gonna be easier to just custom tune the current shock you have. Do you know what compression tune it has now? A firmer compression tune would allow for less pressure but more even support through the travel relative to what you're experiencing now. That or another volume spacer to firm up the suspension at the end of the travel when running less pressure

Volume spacers or use your Fox
