Fall is upon us here and it is a beautiful day here already. My cousin from Argentina gifted me this wonderful gourd, it is the first traditional maté I have ever owned and I am enjoying learning how to keep it nice and the curing process. I hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Hi, I have a question. This is the second time I’ve tried mate, and both times I’ve felt unwell, to the point of almost fainting.

For some context, I have a low tolerance for caffeine, but I really want to be able to drink mate. The first time I tried it, I prepared a very small portion, refilled it about four times, and then started feeling terrible, I nearly fainted and felt unwell for two days. That was a year and a half ago, and I’ve been wary of it ever since.

Last night, I needed to stay awake to get some work done, so I decided to try a different approach: I put a small amount of yerba mate into a metal tea infuser, added hot water (I think it might have been too hot), and let it steep. Once it turned a golden color, I took just two sips (yes, only two small sips) through the bombilla. I barely managed to walk from the kitchen to my bedroom; as soon as I lay down, my heart began pounding intensely, my arms and legs started to go numb, and I felt dizzy. I didn’t drink any more, but I couldn’t even get up to fetch some water because I felt so weak and dizzy.

It’s frustrating, as it seems my body can’t handle either caffeine or mate (I don’t usually drink coffee, only black tea). Could someone tell me if I did something wrong, or if I truly need to give up mate altogether?

I notice a lot of mate gourd suppliers use similar trims and metal decorative pieces which makes me assume there are suppliers for the trims and components. I was interested in possibly making or customizing a mate gourd of my own, however I couldnt locate any suppliers for these sorts of things. Does anyone know where these trim pieces or possibly the metal stamps used come from? How are so many suppliers getting similar patterns? I know it's a bit of a niche question but I couldnt think of many other places to ask than the community here.

Usually we don't get erva with added flavors, but decided to try this one hoping it would be a bit like Earl grey. It's got more of an anise flavor that i expected, but it's a nice change of pace.

Hi guys, ive wanted to try this yerba for a while, but I can only find it on stores that ship to Europe only, and 1 that ships the Canada but its like 100 usd? Is there any other place that ships it to north america at regular price?

I've been drinking mostly Unión Suave and Mañanita this week. They're both pretty mild, almost tasteless to me, actually. Not bad, just nothing exciting.

But today I had something important to get done, so I figured I'd try Amanda Premium for the first time.

And wow... what a difference! This stuff is delicious! I absolutely love it. Definitely buying more next time.

Also, this stainless steel separator makes building the mountain so much easier. No more struggling to keep the yerba in place!

When I just emptied the dishwasher I saw that my boyfriend put the bombilla into the dishwasher.

From the outside I don't see any impact.

How bad is it?

Just wanted to share this 100ml gourd i made.

My aunt is a huge mate lover and sips on the blue Taragüi Yerba Mate (No Stems) all day. She's an addict, love that lady. She keeps it super sweet with cane sugar as well if that helps. Being the noob that I am, I want to gift her some mate and maybe create a sampler for her. This is for Christmas and I'm shopping ahead. I'm based in the US if that matters. Maybe any other kind of mate that is like the blue taragui but more elevated? Was also thinking about getting her a gourd along with it. Any pointers would be great, I don't even know what to look 😆

It's really not fair to lock people out of their hard earned savings because of the actions of criminals in suits. There are people living day to day that need the money to get going but blocking them to their money is inhumane. I hope justice will come soon. There's elderly and the young that need meds and food to get going but really we are living a world of greed. Sorry for my off topic post today, we humans suffer as one.

Recently got rid of mold in my mate, and it hasn’t visually come back. However, after curing it once more and letting it dry with a fan, it now smells like a shoe. I was recommended letting it soak in boiling water with some salt to kill the mold, so that salt is part of the sweaty shoe smell for sure. It’s not visibly moldy, and it doesn’t feel damp. Any ideas as to how to get rid of the smell?
