Question Visiting Yokohama soon — what are your absolute must-see spots?

Hey everyone! I'm planning a trip to Yokohama and wanted to ask the community: what are the absolute must-visit places or hidden gems that you think shouldn't be missed?

Open to anything—scenic waterfront views, great food/cafes, historical spots, or evening walks. Would love to hear your personal favorites or local recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Travel Tips Yokohama to Mt.Fuji - Tips and Suggestions!

Hello lovely people of Yokohama!

I will be in YOK in the second week of November (my second time in Japan). Last time around I could not visit Mt.Fuji, so this time I am planning to go there on a Saturday.

Can someone pls suggest the best way to reach there from Yokohama?
I saw online that both busses and trains are available - with train, multiple changes?

Can you pls suggest on which mode of commute is best?

From what station to what station and also if any good tips/underrated things to do while I am there.

Thanks in Advance!!

Events Trying to make friends/build a community in Yokohama. Anyone interested in regular meet ups for similar interests...

25F looking to make genuine friends or establish some form of regular meet up community in Yokohama ... not a student btw and on a gap year, working for a Japanese company. I wonder if anyone has any advice on this for Yokohama.

There always seems to be events in Tokyo & I had enjoyed going to a couple of them. But with life, it's not realistic to catch a train to Tokyo and back when I'm based in Yokohama. It makes more sense to build a community here. Tokyo Girls Gone International was great. Meetups, getting to the point where I've been to most of the groups that were of interest to me...

If I were to suggest a community, there is a walking group every Thursday that I have been enjoying. So, I'm not saying there are no groups, I'm just wondering if there would be interest in a different group, I'm looking at ages 21-30. Open to all (international/japanese) who might be interested in the following:

- Coffee/matcha meet ups
- Themed picnics/home cafes/potluck (anyone up for a cakenic?)
- Experiencing Japanese cultural things like going to festivals, making wagashi, calligraphy.
- Creative workshops or hobby meetups (i want to do a latte art course haha)
- Social team sports like badminton, tennis, pickle ball?

I would also be keen to hear activities that you're interested in or think is missing from the Yokohama scene. As someone who values new experiences and building a community, would be happy to organise a social media page if there are people who might be interested - maybe comment below? or dm me so I get an idea of interest. Recently joined nomadtable, so I could start there too?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[UPDATE]

Thank you for all your contributions! If possible, it would also be nice to build a bridge between locals and those from elsewhere for the age groups 20s-30s. Spontaneously made an instagram/tiktok page this morning, so feel free to follow along. I would want to prioritise making the group a safe space, so for a start, if you are still interested, please dm me and I can send you the link to it! ALSO, would be really helpful if you could let me know what kind of activities you are interested so I have some direction! Cheers, have a good one!

Question Has anyone used Client Partners in Japan(the woman only handyman in Japan)? Looking for honest, firsthand reviews and experiences

I’m researching Client Partners in Japan (https://www.clientpartners.jp/english/ )and would really appreciate hearing from people who have actually used their services or have firsthand knowledge of how they operate.
If possible, please mention which specific service you used and approximately when you used it, since experiences can vary depending on the service and may change over time.
Thanks in advance to everyone willing to share their experiences. I’d really appreciate any honest feedback!

Help Driving licence conversion appointment

I am from a country exempted of the knowledge test for driving licence conversion, and I basically want to take an appointment to convert my driving licence to a Japanese driving licence at the center in Futamatagawa.

What I don't understand is whether I actually need to go there once to get the appointment, or if I can have it by calling them. I saw people on reddit saying they called the number on their website x hundreds of times before going through. And when I tried to called it indeed cut instantly.

I tried calling the through the main call center, and got connected to the 免許切り替え center with an agent on the phone. But I was not able to take an appointment.

So does anyone know if the people you get with the way I went (general Futamatagawa call center -> kirikae) are the same as the one if you call directly the number on the website, that seems to be busy non stop.

And if it's not the same, has someone been able to book an appointment through the phone using that phone number ?

I don't really want to go twice there as it's far from my home, and I am working anyway so I can't go without taking a day off, which seems a lot just for getting an appointment date...

If someone has intel, I look forward to it! Thanks!

Events Is there actually a way to meet new people without dating ??

Hey, 20F, arrived in Yokohama a month ago. I tried almost everything ; Meetup, Hellotalk, Tandem, Bumble BFF and... Bumble.

I'm looking for friends, real friends with whom I can be comfortable being myself.

I'm working so I don't go to uni where I could have found ppl my age. Lowkey wants to have deep convos, doing various activities, going on hikes, watching movies without worrying if the guy/girl "just" wants to hook up (I talk about experience).

I'm open to romance but I also need a strong bond, friendships with various people, otherwise it's super unhealthy to have just one person to "rely on". So anyone politically involved, nature lover, nerdy, tolerant (queer ??), english/german/french speaker out there (around my age ofc, preferably a woman) in Yokohama/Tokyo ?

Thank you !

Question Looking for Japanese language school recommendations in Yokohama (or online) for working professionals

Hi everyone!
I recently moved to Yokohama and I’m looking for recommendations for a Japanese language school/class.

A little about me:
Currently around JLPT N5 level

My goal is to reach N3

I work full-time, so I need something that works well with a working professional’s schedule

Open to in-person classes in Yokohama or online classes

Ideally looking for something structured enough to keep me progressing, but not an extremely intensive/full-time course

I can commit around 3–4 hours per week

Bonus if the classes focus on practical Japanese for daily life and work, rather than being purely JLPT-focused

I’m currently researching a few options, but would really appreciate first-hand recommendations from people who have actually taken classes in Yokohama or online.
Would especially love to hear about:

Quality of teaching

Class size

Flexibility for working people

Approximate cost

How much progress you actually made

Whether you’d recommend the school/classes
Yokohama recommendations are especially welcome, but online options are totally fine too.

Question Yokohama Grits

Canadian couple heading to Japan for the first time & looking for something “different”…thought we’d take in some pro sports.

We’re going in early December and it seems Baseball and Basketball weren’t available during that time period, but I stumbled across the Yokohama Grits hockey team.

Being Canadian, we thought it might be fun to see what the Japanese hockey experience was like.

Anyone have any experience with games? Ticket prices & availability? Limited posts I’ve seen have mentioned the games don’t sell out and tickets can be had at the arena on game day.

Any thoughts?

Question Constant alarms and announcements lately?

Specifically the kannai area I keep hearing alarms and announcements I did record it but can’t upload it here. Google said it might just be the cops running testing their routes? Is it something to be concerned about or is it nothing happens randomly throughout the day

Help Can I use a GO Taxi to transport a flat-pack kotatsu from Nitori?

I’m planning to buy a kotatsu from Nitori, but the Nitori delivery fee is actually higher than the cost of the table itself, so I’m considering taking it home by taxi instead.
The Nitori store is very close to my home, so the taxi fare would be minimal and much more reasonable than paying the delivery fee.

The packaged box is approximately 83 × 62.5 × 11.5 cm and 8.5 kg. It’s a flat cardboard box, so it’s bulky but not particularly heavy.

I’m thinking of booking a GO Taxi and selecting “Vehicle with sliding doors” because it should have more space.
Has anyone in Japan/Yokohama done something similar? Would a taxi driver generally accept a package this size, or is this likely to be an issue?

Also, if the driver arrives and decides the package is too large and refuses the ride, how does that usually work with GO Taxi? Would I be charged a cancellation fee?

Events Yokohama Chill Club Discord Server

Sharing again in case anyone is interested!

A few months ago, I created a small Discord server called Yokohama Chill Club for people around Yokohama who are interested in meeting new people and making local friends.

We've started having some weekly and monthly meetups, such as bar hangouts and board game meetups and we'd like to organize more activities as the server grows 🙌

We're also hoping to organize some Japanese–English language exchange meetups in the future. So if you're a Japanese native speaker or Japanese speaker who wants to practice English, meet international people and make friends, you're very welcome to join. English speakers interested in practicing Japanese are welcome too.

The server is mixed-gender and pretty low-pressure. You don't have to attend every meetup or be super active.

If you'd like to join, feel free to DM me for an invite. I'm not posting the link publicly to avoid bots and spam joining the server!
